Xbox Will Hold a Second Summer Showcase Next Week
Microsoft has announced that there will be a second Xbox Games Showcase, airing just two days after the main showcase taking place on June 12.
Xbox Games Showcase Extended will take place on June 14, starting at 10am PT. A new post on the Xbox Wire blog promises new trailers, deeper looks at the news revealed as part of the main Xbox and Bethesda Games Showcase, and interviews with developers. The show will clock in at 90 minutes, and so there's another hour and a half to add to your not-E3 calendar.
As ever, IGN will be covering it all, so expect full details right here for both the Xbox and Bethesda Games Showcase 2022 and the newly-announced extended show. This will be the second year in a row that Xbox has done an extended showcase; last year, just days after the main showcase, Xbox showed more from Hellblade 2, Halo Infinite, Forza Horizon 5, and many more. If this year's extended showcase is just as packed, then we could have some exciting extra news on our hands.
For everything else across this period, check out our Summer of Gaming 2022 schedule, which will help you keep on track over the next couple of weeks. There's 13 shows still to come, so there's surely plenty of announcements on the way.

Xbox GoldenEye 007 Remaster Looks Closer Than Ever After Achievements are Spotted
A GoldenEye 007 remaster on Xbox appears more and more likely, as Microsoft now has the game's achievements listed on its official website.
As spotted by Video Games Chronicle, industry insider @Wario64 on Twitter shared the achievements (below) and a link to their listing online, with the webpage still functioning as normal as of the time of writing.
Both single and multiplayer objectives are listed for the beloved game – which was originally released on the Nintendo 64 in 1997 – with GoldenEye 007 granting players 1,000 Gamerscore in total, as is the norm for fully-fledged games.

A remaster has been long-rumoured, and all but confirmed time and time again – most recently in January when Xbox achievement tracking website TrueAchievements also listed the game. An updated version of the original GoldenEye 007 was confirmed to be in development for the Xbox 360's Live Arcade at developer Rare but was cancelled due to licensing issues, and files for the game leaked online in February 2021.
It's been a long time since we received a fully-fledged Bond game, but we seem to be seeing a loosening of the famously tight restrictions on the license. Along with a seeming return to GoldenEye, Hitman developer Io Interactive is also working on Project 007, a totally original new story for the super-spy. We think the developer is a perfect fit for the franchise.

War Thunder Forums Have, For the Third Time, Been Used to Leak Classified Military Intel
For the third time, a War Thunder player has leaked classified military intel on the game's forums in response to, in this case, ammo for Chinese tanks not being accurate enough.
As reported by UK Defense Journal (via PC Gamer), a user uploaded an image of the DTC10-125 tungsten penetrator and a technical doc containing its specifications because they were angry about some small inaccuracies.
The part in question is a "high-velocity, non-explosive 125mm sabot round fired by the Chinese Type 96 and Type 99 MBTs" and is considered "one of the [People's Liberation Army's] main tank killing rounds."
This leak, which very well could be considered treason, follows similar leaks on War Thunder's forums that revealed classified information on the British Challenger 2 and French Leclerc main battle tanks. What sets this apart, however, is that it appears to have been entirely unnecessary.
Nobleman Swerve on ResetERA said this crime was for naught as the assets used in-game of the round in question are not representative of the final product.
"The game recently closed a publicly accessible development server that previewed the upcoming content drop," they wrote. "The thing about these dev servers is that the values for things such as armor, penetration, or flight models are usually placeholders subject to change on final release.
"So what happens was the developer added this shell to the server, but copy/pasted the values of the previous version as a placeholder. This poster saw this, flipped out, and went ahead and posted treason to correct what are publicly communicated as placeholder values."
Either way, the post has been removed by War Thunder developer Gaijin Entertainment, and the team has once again pleaded to its community to not commit criminal acts on its forums.
"Our community managers immediately banned the user and deleted his post, as the information on this particular shell is still classified in China," the studio said in an email to PC Gamer. "Publishing classified information on any vehicle of any nation at War Thunder forums is clearly prohibited, and the game developers never use it in their work.
"While we understand that our players want the game to be as realistic as possible, we're kindly asking them not to do anything illegal and jeopardize their safety, as well as safety of our community team members. The developers of War Thunder do their best to research information on vehicles using legally available tools, and scandals like this are clearly not useful for our efforts."

Top Gun: Maverick Secures Another Domestic Weekend Box Office Victory With a $86 Million Second Flyby
Top Gun: Maverick has earned its second domestic weekend box office victory by earning $86 million in ticket sales, which has ranked it in the top 10 highest-grossing second weekends in domestic box office history.
As reported by Variety, Top Gun: Maverick has now soared to $291 million in North America and has officially become Tom Cruise's highest-grossing film ever at the domestic box office. Furthermore, the film only dropped 32% from its $160 million opening weekend and has now seen, according to Comscore, the "smallest second-weekend decline for a movie that opened to $100 million or more."
For comparison, Spider-Man: No Way Home and Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness declined 67% in their second weekends and The Batman dropped 50%.
Internationally, Top Gun: Maverick has crossed $257 million and has done its part to help the film reach $548 million globally.
Maverick had little in the way of competition, but David Cronenberg's Crimes of the Future did have a limited release and it brought in $1.1 million from 773 theaters domestically. Maverick, on the other hand, was playing in 4,751 theaters.
Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness took second place with $9.3 million domestically, bringing its global tally to $909.4 million globally. The Bob's Burgers Movie placed third again with $4.5 million, The Bad Guys placed fourth with $3.3 million, and Downton Abbey: A New Era rounded out the top five with $3 million.

The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power ‘Doesn’t Try to Compete’ With the Films or Game of Thrones
While Prime Video's The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power is trying to be the next big series that will captivate the world, it isn't trying to compete with Peter Jackson's trilogy or Game of Thrones.
Speaking to Empire Magazine, co-showrunner Patrick McKay acknowledged the impressive feat Jackson and his team accomplished with their adaptations of Tolkien's work alongside stating this new team is just "admirers from afar."
Empire Magazine also shared an exclusive image of a snow-troll from The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power.
"Anyone approaching Lord Of The Rings on screen would be wrong not to think about how wonderfully right Jackson got so much of it,” McKay said. “But we’re admirers from afar, that’s it. The Rings Of Power doesn’t try to compete with him.”
Game of Thrones is another property this new series is not aiming to compete with, despite it taking the world by storm in the years since Jackson's The Return of the King premiered in theaters in 2003. Game of Thrones as an IP is an intriguing comparison as it not only shares similarities with The Lord of the Rings, but the series' prequel House of the Dragon debuts just a couple of weeks before Rings of Power.
According to McKay, however, they are staying true to the Tolkien mission and not getting caught up with what the "Joneses" are doing.
"You can psych yourself out in keeping up with the Joneses, but one of the mantras on this was ‘go back to the source material,'" McKay said. "What would Tolkien do? Some of these other competing properties – they play one octave really beautifully, but Tolkien was playing every note on the piano. He had that variety of tones.
"There’s the whimsy, friendship and humour that Harry Potter is so beloved for – but there’s sophistication, politics, history, mythology and depth, too. So for us, it was about going deeper into what we are, rather than worrying about what other folks are doing.”
