GTA Trilogy Seems to Include an Unfinished VR Mode

Rockstar's recent release of Grand Theft Auto: The Trilogy appears to contain an unfinished VR mode for the game.

As spotted by Eurogamer, Rockstar Intel reporter Ben Walker recently tweeted a video (below) showing what seems to be a semi-working first-person mode in GTA: San Andreas, but which is marked as a VR option in back-end menus. "There is a debug Unreal command for GTA VR but it looks a little bit unfinished," says Walker in the tweet.

"Maybe it would be cool if they implemented this as a first-person option? It plays pretty well. Gunfights and punching will need tweaking, would be super cool for screenshots!"

Footage of the VR mode appears to display in a similar way to the first-person perspective granted in GTA V. As part of a thread on the mode, Walker notes that the mode plays well despite elements such as player collisions needing work.

As the mode is currently hidden inside the game's code, accessing it is a little trickier than pressing a button or enabling an option in the game's menus. For starters, as noted by Walker in the tweet below, you'll need access to additional in-game mods and a debug menu.

While a first-person (or VR) mode would certainly offer an exciting addition to the game, it isn't likely to have been top of Rockstar's priority list since launch. With users across a number of platforms criticizing the wide array of bugs across the trilogy, the publisher recently launched its first major patch for the games. According to Rockstar, this should fix a number of notable problems with the titles such as issues causing holes in the map, to character models in cutscenes and more.

Ridley Scott Is Making Blade Runner and Alien Live-Action TV Series

Director Ridley Scott has confirmed that live-action TV shows for both Blade Runner and Alien are in production, with plots already written.

During an interview with Today on BBC Radio 4, the 83-year-old director confirmed that the pilot for the upcoming Blade Runner TV series has been written.

“We have already written the pilot for Blade Runner and the bible,” he said. “So, we’re already presenting Blade Runner as a TV show, probably the first 10 hours.”

A Blade Runner TV series had been rumoured back in February, but nothing was confirmed about the project until now.

Although details are scarce, it’s thought that the show will debut on a streaming service, but it’s unclear where. It’s also unclear whether this will affect Denis Villeneuve’s hopes to make another Blade Runner movie.

“It's such an inspiring place, the Blade Runner world," said Villeneuve. "The problem I have is the word 'sequel.' I think cinema needs original stories. But if you ask me if I'd like to revisit this universe in a different way, I can say yes. It would need to be a project on its own. Something disconnected from both other movies. A detective noir story set in the future… I wake up sometimes in the night dreaming about it.”

Scott also confirmed that Alien is in a “similar” position, with a TV series currently in the works. “Alien is now being written for pilot,” he said. He added that an 8–10 hour bible was also being put together.

The Alien TV series was announced earlier this year and will be heading to FX. FX boss John Landgraf has described the series as “the first ‘Alien’ story set on Earth — and by blending both the timeless horror of the first ‘Alien’ film with the non-stop action of the second, it’s going to be a scary thrill ride that will blow people back in their seats.”

However, Ridley Scott himself expressed doubt that the TV show will ever be as good as the original Alien:

“It’ll never be as good as the first one,” he said. “That’s what I’ll say.”

Marvel’s Avengers’ Spider-Man DLC Has No Story Missions

Marvel’s Avengers’ upcoming Spider-Man DLC will not feature story missions like those seen in the Kate Bishop, Hawkeye, and Black Panther updates.

Rather than a short campaign with bespoke missions, Avengers’ Spider-Man: With Great Power story is told through audio logs and illustrated cutscenes that are unlocked by completing challenges that have been added to the regular Avengers Initiative multiplayer missions. Working through these challenges gradually unfolds a storyline in which Spider-Man uncovers AIM’s new plan to upgrade their Synthoid army.

Talking to IGN, Avengers’ Gameplay Director, Philippe Therien, explained why Crystal Dynamics chose this direction. “We want to spend our efforts on content that everyone can enjoy, so we chose to spend a lot of our energy on the Klaw raid that's coming up at the same time,” he said.

“Really that's a simple decision for us. Spider-Man can play all the content, but then we release a piece of content that's good on all platforms. Really that was a decision that's been that way since the beginning,” he concluded.

Since the Spider-Man DLC doesn’t come with its own story missions, it is not being branded in the same way as previous character DLC; Crystal Dynamics call it a Hero Event. Kate Bishop and Hawkeye’s DLC, which came with in-engine animated cutscenes and story missions, were known as Operations. Black Panther’s more substantial additions in War for Wakanda came branded as an expansion.

A Hero Event, then, feels more akin to how games like Rainbow Six Siege or League of Legends will add a new character. There’s a certain amount of lore and cosmetics content around them, but the new playable content is essentially just the character themself. For more on that, take a look at our Avengers Spider-Man DLC preview, which goes into detail on how Peter Parker feels to play.

One Cowboy Bebop Netflix Line Is Already Becoming Infamous

Netflix's live-action adaptation of Cowboy Bebop has received a divisive reception since its premiere, and one line in particular has already taken the internet by storm, and probably not for the right reasons.

In Episode 3, around the 7:40-minute mark, Jet Black is speaking to Woodcock and says it sounds as if she is blackmailing him. Instead of denying it, Woodcock doubles down and says, "Hmm, damn right it is because, Jet, you are Black and you are male."

Thanks to @Slime11037 on Twitter, you can see the scene for yourself below.

There were many people online who reacted to this scene, which was not found in the original, and shared their surprise at its inclusion.

"Me desperately trying to assure the public that cowboy bebop isn't that bad but cowboy bebop keeps asserting its badness," The Verge's Ash Parrish wrote.

It also made its way to ResetEra, where users like Krazen chimed in.

"I gotta see the scene, depends on how they set up the female antagonist. But as it stands, can’t tell if I am offended as a black person, or as someone who respects writing in general. Oof, that line wouldn’t even make a CSI Miami script."

In our review of this new take on Cowboy Bebop, we said, "Netflix’s live-action Cowboy Bebop succeeds in unapologetically celebrating and embracing the anime, even if some attempts to add to the storyline fall flat."

Ghostbusters: Afterlife Haunts Its Way to a $44 Million Weekend Domestic Box Office Win

Ghostbusters: Afterlife has haunted its way to a weekend domestic box office win by earning $44 million in its theatrical debut.

As reported by Variety, this "better-than-expected result" for Ghostbusters: Afterlife is a strong sign for the film that also collected another $16 million overseas for a global total of $60 million. While Afterlife's opening weekend ticket sales were less than 2016's Ghostbusters' $46 million, that reboot did not have a pandemic to contend with and also cost $144 million to produce - a big jump from Ghostbusters: Afterlife's $75 million.

In our Ghostbusters: Afterlife review, we said, "A delightfully lovely movie that will satisfy those who grew up with Ramis, Hudson, Murray, and Aykroyd, Ghostbusters: Afterlife will make youngsters fall just as in love with the new generation."

Marvel's Eternals secured the #2 spot with $10.8 million after securing two weekend box office wins in a row following its premiere earlier this month. Eternals has brought in over $135.8 million domestically and $200.3 million internationally.

Clifford the Big Red Dog placed third by pulling in another $8.1 million in its second weekend, bringing its domestic total to $33.5 million.

Will Smith's King Richard, which debuted in theaters and on HBO Max this weekend, placed fourth with a less-than-expected $5.7 million. WB had projected King Richard's start to be closer to $10 million.

In our review of the film that follows Smith's Richard Williams raising tennis superstars Venus and Serena Williams, we said that it "is a simple tale of triumph over adversity. The supporting cast shines, Will Smith excels, and while this might not be the full story, King Richard nevertheless works as both character study and feel-good sports movie."

Dune rounded out the top five with $3 million, bringing its $98.1 million domestic tally ever-closer to $100 million.

Arcane, Netflix’s League of Legends Animated Series, Is Officially Getting a Second Season

Netflix and Riot Games have officially announced that Season 2 of the League of Legends animated series Arcane is on its way.

While there weren't many details given regarding this new season, it has been confirmed that Hailee Steinfeld's Vi, Ella Purnell's Jinx, and Caitlyn Kiramman will all reprise their roles for this continued story. Their voices were featured in a short teaser that was released alongside the Season 2 announcement.

This news shouldn't come as too much of a surprise considering the overwhelmingly positive reception Arcane has received since it made its premiere on November 6, 2021. It's also currently sitting as the #2 spot on Netflix's Global Top 10 list of English language TV shows.

We also sung Arcane's praises in our review and awarded it a rare 10/10 score, saying, "Arcane is the first video game adaptation that’s truly a masterpiece, breaking new ground for what’s possible in TV animation."

Season 2 of Arcane will be brought to us by Riot Games, with Fortiche Productions returning for its animation. The series was created by Christian Linke and Alex Yee, and Linke will serve as executive producer alongside Marc Merrill, Brandon Beck, Jane Chung, and Thomas Vu.

"We're beyond happy about the positive response to Arcane's first season and are working hard with the creative wizards at Riot and Fortiche to deliver our second installment," said Arcane co-creators Christian Linke and Alex Yee.

If that isn't enough Arcane excitement, Riot is currently celebrating its premiere with a full month celebration across all its biggest games in an event called RiotX Arcane. These celebrations include free Arcane skins in League of Legends, Legends of Runeterra will add a new permanent mode called The Path of Champions, Valorant will offer a free RiotX Arcane Pass, and more.

Grand Theft Auto: The Trilogy – The Definitive Edition Gets Its First Major Update

Grand Theft Auto: The Trilogy - The Definitive Edition has released its first major update and it provides fixes for Grand Theft Auto III, Grand Theft Auto: Vice City, and Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas.

As detailed by Rockstar, these fixes include everything from "holes in the map" to "issues with character models in cutscenes" to the shockingly awful "issue with rain visual effects" in Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas.

As of this writing, the update is now available on PS4, PS5, Xbox Series X|S, and Xbox One. We will update this story when it is released for Nintendo Switch and PC.

This is all part of Rockstar's plan to improve the quality of Grand Theft Auto: The Trilogy - The Definitive Edition as, according to them, "the updated versions of these classic games did not launch in a state that meets our own standards of quality, or the standards our fans have come to expect."

Additionally, Rockstar has gifted everyone who owns Grand Theft Auto: The Trilogy - The Definitive Edition on PC the classic PC versions of Grand Theft Auto 3, Grand Theft Auto: Vice City, and Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas as another way to make up for the problems. It has also made these classic versions available, once again, on the Rockstar Store as a bundle.

These issues were noticed quickly after launch, and they included quality concerns, Switch-specific problems, troubles with the Rockstar Launcher, missing elements, so much more.

In our review of Grand Theft Auto: The Trilogy - The Definitive Edition, we said it this collection is "defective, disappointing, and surprisingly disrespectful to three classic games and their many legions of fans."

First Look of Star Wars: Galactic Starcruiser’s Lightsaber and Bridge Training Revealed

Disney has shared the first look of Lightsaber and Bridge Training aboard Star Wars: Galactic Starcruiser - the two-night, immersive Star Wars hotel experience opening next year at Walt Disney World.

Shared as part of today's Destination D23 presentation, Disney Parks, Experience and Products Chairman Josh D'Amaro gave fans of that galaxy far, far away a glimpse of how lightsabers will be part of their Galactic Starcruiser adventure.

As shown in the video, guests will enter a room and will be given a lightsaber to train against a wall-mounted training remote. It appears there will be beams of light that can be seen through smoke in the room to simulate where the remote will be firing. It looks to start off slow, but it quickly speeds up and will truly test your skill as a Jedi.

Following that demo, D'Amaro showed a bit of what Bridge Training will look like aboard Star Wars: Galactic Starcruiser. Guests will be able to visit the bridge of the Halcyon - the name of the ship this experience takes place on - and will be trained in the ways of navigation, power, defense, and other critical systems.

You will get a chance to press the buttons and levers and keep the Halcyon on track and safe from the First Order. Speaking of the First Order, you will have to defend the ship by controlling the weapons and firing at enemies on a massive screen that simulates a window out into space.

This first look follows our preview of Star Wars: Galactic Starcruiser, where we got to see first-hand what guests will get to be part of when it opens on March 1, 2022.

For more, check out our breakdown of everything you need to know about Star Wars: Galactic Starcruiser, including how much it costs, what kind of food will be aboard, and how it will let you live your very own Star Wars story.

Andrew Garfield Says Tobey Maguire Is His Favorite Spider-Man

Andrew Garfield, who is trying to promote a movie he’s in (Tick, Tick… Boom!) while dodging questions for a movie he’s not announced to be in (Spider-Man: No Way Home), recently shared that Tobey Maguire is his favorite Spider-Man.

“Tobey is my favorite, right? Cause that’s my childhood,” Garfield says in a video for GQ. This was in response to one commenter who suggested Tom Holland is the best Spider-Man because he’s good at playing both Peter Parker and Spider-Man. Whereas Maguire was a better Peter Parker and Garfield was a better Spider-Man, only.

The Amazing Spider-Man actor responded, “Cool. That’s your opinion, bro. Climb a tree,” before revealing his preferred Spider-Man.

“I think I watched that first Spider-Man film back-to-back like three times with my friend Terry McGinnis and we were just incredibly high and we would, like, do the lines to each other.”

In a separate interview with ET Canada, as spotted by ComicBook, Garfield again praised Maguire for being the original, but also praised Holland and the MCU team for delivering a version of the character that leads with soul. “That’s a very diplomatic way of saying everyone, I love everyone who’s ever [played Spider-Man].”

Garfield played Spider-Man in two movies between 2012 and 2014 before the franchise was rebooted with Tom Holland. However, villains from Garfield’s tenure like Jamie Foxx’s Electro and Lizard are set to appear in Holland’s third film Spider-Man: No Way Home.

Given that it’s about the multiverse, many are speculating that both Maguire and Garfield will also appear in the film as alternate versions of Spider-Man. But Marvel won't say a word about whether this is true. Garfield himself has given several responses from calling the rumors, "hilarious" to telling folks that any cameo from him “is not something I’m aware of.”

While we wait until the official movie release to see for ourselves who actually shows up in Spider-Man: No Way Home, check out IGN’s breakdown of the newest trailer and why the movie appears so focused on Spider-Man’s villains.
