Alec Baldwin Involved In Fatal Discharge Of Prop Firearm That Leaves One Crewmember Dead
What appears to be an accident involving a prop firearm left one crew member dead and another injured on the set of an independent film being shot in New Mexico. Alec Baldwin reportedly discharged the firearm, killing the movie's cinematographer and wounding the director.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, Director of Photography Halyna Hutchins was transported to University of New Mexico Hospital following the shooting, where she was pronounced dead. Director Joel Souza is in critical condition.
"We're trying to determine right now how and what type of projectile was used in the firearm," said a spokesperson for the Santa Fe County Sherriff's Office in a statement to the New York Times.
An investigation into the incident is reportedly underway. No charges have been filed as of yet.
Alec Baldwin was filming Rust, an independent Western in which he stars as the titular character. According to a spokesperson from the movie, the prop gun was loaded with blanks that misfired. Filming has been halted for the time being.

Suda51’s Studio Grasshopper Manufacture Announces NetEase Games Acquisition
Grasshopper Manufacture, the studio headed by No More Heroes creator Goichi Suda (Suda51), has announced that it has become a subsidiary of China’s gigantic publisher NetEase Games under a share transfer agreement active on May 31, 2021.
“Grasshopper Manufacture celebrated its 23rd anniversary in March this year,” said Suda in a comment alongside the announcement. “Our studio is made up of a diverse staff with a variety of backgrounds and personalities, all of whom love video games. As I thought about the strengths and peculiarities of our company, I could see a new future for our way of creative production.
“NetEase Games has released many fantastic games, and I have heard for a long time about their strong reputation. When NetEase Games presented the opportunity to work on unique consumer games together, I came to the conclusion that by working together, we can deliver even more powerful and creative titles to our audience.
“In addition, NetEase Games is a reliable partner that understands and supports our strengths. They will give us support on the management side and fund our game development, but the planning and production of our games will be left entirely up to us. This means we can guarantee a consistent ‘Grasshopper Manufacture style’ and quality of our games. In addition, we will receive valuable support from thousands of NetEase Games artists and technical staff in areas such as graphics support and QA. Our goal is to make the most of these resources and deliver three more quintessential Grasshopper Manufacture games in the next 10 years.
“Please look forward to the history this new Grasshopper Manufacture will create in the future.”
For fans concerned that joining the giant Chinese publisher NetEase will mean Grasshopper is relegated to making mobile games, the phrase “consumer games” in Suda’s comment is usually used in Japan to mean games for console and/or PC.
Suda also said that the studio is recruiting now for a wide range of positions. Anyone interested in applying should visit Grasshopper Manufacture's website for more details.
NetEase Games also delivered a statement to praise Suda and Grasshopper’s “strong style”, “clear design philosophy” and “unique taste from concept to fine details”.
The publisher, which currently has over 10,000 developers, also said that this acquisition should be seen as a message to top game developers in Japan and the rest of the world that the company is keen to keep investing in the quality and appeal of its games.
NetEase has been strongly rumoured to be in negotiations with Yakuza series creator Toshihiro Nagoshi, who recently fuelled speculation when he parted from his high-profile role at Sega. The idea of two such radically different developers as Suda and Nagoshi as loose colleagues under the NetEase umbrella is certainly interesting.
Grasshopper Manufacture's most recent game was No More Heroes III for Nintendo Switch. You can read IGN's full review here.

Amazon Bans New World Players for Exploiting a Gold Duplication Glitch
Amazon has announced that it will be taking measures to ban players who recently exploited a glitch in New World's 1.0.3 update, which brought server transfers to the game.
As reported by PCGamer, the "gold dupe" glitch allowed players to duplicate gold and items. How it works is that if players sent gold to another player and logged off and then logged back in again, the gold they traded beforehand would still be in their inventory. Of course, word of this glitch spread quickly.
Amazon addressed the glitch in a statement and said that "players found deliberately using this condition to gain advantage will be banned for exploiting. We will also remove items or gold received where appropriate."
Additionally, to curb this glitch further, players who exploited it may be temporarily unable to log in with their character. This should resolve itself within two hours, but if it lasts longer, Amazon says players should contact customer service.
This is a bit different from how EA handled its recent glitch with FIFA 22 Ultimate Team competitive mode. Like Amazon, EA issued temporary bans but didn't do anything to take away the rewards from those who already exploited the glitch.
New World players exploiting a way to earn more gold may have something to do with the currency crisis currently plaguing the MMO. Unlike other MMORPGs, New World is undergoing a currency deflation where gold is being hoarded for being more valuable than crafting items. This has led New World players to adopt a barter system rather than spend their precious coins.
As New World's living MMO world continues to evolve in fascinating ways check out our correspondence from our virtual New World war reporter, or our New World review in progress.

Marvel Didn’t Want Iron Man And Captain America To Fight in Civil War
The Marvel Creative Committee has a deservedly rough reputation within the MCU fandom. As far back as 2015, the team of executives was drawing ire for its conservative outlook on the MCU, creating friction with Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige and the rest of the creative team.
With the recent release of The Story of Marvel Studios: The Making of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, a massive tome chronicling the creation of the MCU, we now have even more insight into Feige's clashes with the committee. We already knew that they clashed with director Edgar Wright among other, but the ending of Captain America: Civil War was reportedly where matters truly came to a head.
As spotted by Slash Film, he book describes heated disagreements between directors Anthony and Joe Russo and the Marvel Creative Committee over whether Iron Man and Captain America should actually battle in the film's climax. According to writer Stephen McFeely, the committee wanted the Avengers to put aside their differences and battle five super soldiers in a submarine base.
"Civil War started a civil war in Marvel," co-director Joe Russo said. "But when we drew the line in the sand, it became a moment where that company was either going to slowly bend back toward where it had come from, or it was gonna slowly start to bend toward new territory."
It was enough that Feige, who nominally served as a mediator between the two groups, was compelled to side with the filmmakers. The dispute was taken to Disney executive Alan Horn, who wound up backing Marvel Studios. A subsequent restructuring would see Feige reporting directly to Horn.
The decision ended years of disagreements with the Marvel Creative Committee, which consisted of toy executive Alan Fine, Marvel Comics writer Brian Michael Bendis, Marvel publisher Dan Buckley, and former Marvel Comics editor-in-chief Joe Quesada. They were backed by billionaire Isaac Permutter, who clashed with Feige over issues of diversity, and was reportedly behind the decision to market Avengers merchandise exclusively to boys.
"Kevin is one of the most talented film executives in the business, but my sense was that the strained relationship with New York was threatening his continued success,” former Disney CEO Bob Iger wrote in his book, The Ride of a Lifetime. "I knew I had to intervene, and so in May 2015, I made the decision to split Marvel’s movie-making unit off from the rest of Marvel and bring it under Alan Horn and the Walt Disney Studios. Kevin would now report directly to Alan, and would benefit from his experience, and the tensions that had built up between him and the New York office would be alleviated."
Of course, we all know what happened after that: Iron Man did in fact fight Captain America; the Marvel Creative Committee was disbanded in 2015, and the MCU is more popular than ever. Russo's main takeaway was that the MCU had to be "disruptive" if it wanted to continue thriving.
"The big thing I used to say all the time was, 'People tell you how much they love chocolate ice cream. You give it to them six days a week, they're gonna throw it in your face on day six. And the problem is, if you have three chocolate ice creams in the can at 200 million dollars a pop, you're screwed. So you better start figuring out ahead of time how to be disruptive," he said.
We'll see if the MCU can keep up its creative momentum with Marvel's Eternals, which goes into wide release in the United States on November 5.

Razer Is Making RGB-Lit Liquid Coolers, PC Fans, and PSUs
Razer’s goal to RGB your entire computer desktop continues with a lineup of new PC components that support the multi-color lighting format.
As part of today’s Razer showcase, which included release details for its upcoming facemask, Razer unveiled a lineup of different PC components that the company claims are both effective and stylish.
The lineup includes the Razer Kunai PC case fans, Razer Hanbo liquid coolers, Razer Katana power supplies, and a Pulse Width Modulator Fan Controller. Save for the fan controller, each component supports Razer Synapse and aRGB lighting.
Razer Kunai
The Razer Kunai are PC case fans that promise maximum performance with quieter acoustics. They come in 120-millimeter and 140-millimeter sizes and support the latest hydraulic bearing technology and an array of aRGB LED lights.
The PWM Modulator Fan Controller can support up to eight Razer Kunai and work with Synapse for customizable fan curve control.
Razer Hanbo
The Razer Hanbo is an all-in-one liquid cooler solution with an RGB pump cap. Developed in partnership between Razer and Asetek, the Hanbo comes in 240-millimeter and 360-millimeter radiator sizes with an optimized pump intake design for what Razer says is a more silent operation.
Razer Katana
The Razer Katana are Platinum-rated ATX power supplies. The modular power supplies can support wattages from 750 to 1,2000 watts in Platinum rating, and there is also a 1,600-watt Titanium rated power supply. And yes, they include a zero RPM aRGB fan and Razer Chroma compatibility.
This lineup means there are more colorful Razer options for your desktop setup. The company previously announced a custom mechanical keyboard line with keycaps, cables, and wrist rests. Razer also wants to support your back with the Razer Enki gaming chair (no RGB).
As PC customization options become more and more accessible, Razer appears poised to become a one-stop solution for burgeoning PC gamers. But we’ll withhold our full judgment until we can get hands-on with these products ourselves.

Stardew Valley Creator Announces Haunted Chocolatier
Stardew Valley creator ConcernedApe's next game will be Haunted Chocolatier, a brand new sim that bears a strong resemblance to his previous work. It's so similar, in fact, that it looks like it could even be a sequel, though ConcernedApe isn't ready to confirm that one way or the other.
In a brief reveal on Youtube, ConcernedApe showed off Haunted Chocolatier's beautiful new world. Much like Stardew Valley, it will be a top-down pixel-based sim, and it looks to have much the same flavor as ConcernedApe's previous work.
Some of the initial characters include Maddie, who asks what it's like to live in the big city, as well Jett and Nigel. Presumably you will be able to date quite a few of them.
ConcernedApe, the pseudonym for solo indie developer Eric Barone, has found considerable success with Stardew Valley, which has grown into one of the most popular indie games of the past decade. Earlier this year, Barone released a massive expansion for Stardew Valley, after which he said he would be shifting his attention to Haunted Chocolatier.
First Haunted Chocolatier details revealed
Barone wrote in a blog following the announcement, "Why chocolate? I’m not sure. It just kind of came to me. I think sometimes the best ideas just appear in a flash, instead of being cleverly thought out. That’s how I like to work, anyway. What’s important is the execution. And after 10 years of practice, I feel more confident than ever in being able to bring an idea to life."
He added, "Regardless, I think a lot of people like chocolate."
He also outlined some of the ways that it will differ from Stardew Valley. In his previous game, the focus was more "humble," but in the new game he wants to explore more "fantastical possibilities." These possibilities evidently include "magical haunted ghost chocolate."
"Chocolate represents that which is delightful. The haunted castle represents the allure of the unknown. The ghosts represent the imprint of the past. All of these things are important," Barone wrote. "However, don’t think for a moment that, because this game features ghosts in a haunted castle, it is an evil or negative game. On the contrary, I intend for this game to be positive, uplifting and life-affirming. However, if Stardew Valley mostly channeled the energy of the sun, Haunted Chocolatier channels the energy of the moon. Both are vital. More important than all that, I just want to make a fun game."
Barone admitted that he's not exactly sure how to describe the new effort. At its core, he says, it will involve gathering ingredients, making chocolate, and running a chocolate shop. In short, it will be a lot like Stardew Valley, only you will be a merchant instead of a farmer. Barone said he hopes the new setting will give him a chance to throw off the constraints of tradition and be "unleashed," which should be good news for fans.
In the FAQ, Barone described Haunted Chocolatier as "more of an action RPG" than his previous effort. He added that he has no plans to add multiplayer at present.
"I’ve been mostly working on the 'meat and potatoes' of the game so far. But what really brings a game to life is the spice, the sauce. And I haven’t really gotten to the sauce yet. That’s coming," Barone wrote.
Barone said there is still a "ton of content" that needs to be made and that "it will be a while" before this game is done. In the meantime, we have no release date yet for Haunted Chocolatier, and PC is the only confirmed platform.

Mythic Quest Renewed for Seasons 3 and 4 at Apple TV+
Mythic Quest, Apple TV Plus’ workplace comedy set in a fictional video game studio, has been renewed for both a third and fourth season. The new season will premiere in 2022 before the third season of Ted Lasso.
In a short video to commemorate the renewals, Mythic Quest star and co-creator Rob McElhenney (It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia) FaceTimes academy award winner and Mythic Quest guest star Anthony Hopkins with the renewal announcement.
Hi. Ron here. We have an announcement! @AppleTVPlus @mythic_quest @TedLasso #MythicQuest pic.twitter.com/lOM3jYFw78
— Rob McElhenney (@RMcElhenney) October 21, 2021
The call doesn’t go quite as planned, though Sir Anthony Hopkins does appear more interested in a potential guest appearance on Ted Lasso than any reappearances on Mythic Quest (for which he was nominated for an Emmy).
Mythic Quest is set in a fictional video game development studio that created the popular MMORPG of the same name. It’s a pretty loving send-up to video games, though it’s more of a workplace comedy than an inside-baseball look at the video game industry.
The second season is where the show hits its stride, according to our review. Also, check out our Ted Lasso season 2 review for more on Apple’s popular TV offerings.

Razer’s RGB Facemask, Zephyr is Available Now
We already knew that Razer was planning to make Zephyr, an RGB face mask that was coming out sometime this year. And today, the gaming peripheral company has announced today that its wearable air purifier is now available for purchase.
As part of RazerCon 2021, the company announced that those looking to purchase Zephyr may do so now. Pricing starts at $99.99 for one Zephyr Unit, and that pricing also includes three sets of N95 grade filters, which should last you 9 days of use. Or, for $149.99, you can get the mask and 33 sets of filters, which are rated for 99 days of usage. Razer will also be selling a 10-pack of filters for the Zephyr, which retail for $29.99.
To ensure the mask does not fall off while in use, the Razer Zephyr uses a dual strap design with an adjustable strap placed on the head and the neck. The mask also includes Razer Chroma RGB lighting with over 15 million lightning options you can customize with the Zephyr.
Initially shown off at CES 2021 as a concept, Razer would announce that it was actually making the mask, then known as Project Hazel, a few months later. In August, Razer announced the product's official name and opened up applications for those interested in beta testing the face mask ahead of a retail release.
Zephyr is a "surgical N95 respirator" with a high fluid resistance, meaning it can protect you from droplets and splashes. Zephyr also includes a clear and transparent design, meaning wearers can speak clearly easily and display visible visual cues while socializing. Razer says the face mask uses Voiceamp technology to ensure your speech isn't muffled via its built-in mic and amplifier combo.

The Razer Enki Gaming Chair Will Get You Through All Day Gaming
The Razer Enki is the second gaming chair from the gaming lifestyle company and this one is designed around all-day gaming comfort.
This gaming chair features one of the widest seats we’ve seen at 21-inches and it also has flatter shoulder arches that only tilt away from the frame at 110-degrees. It’s a big departure from other racing-style chairs that have narrow seats and tall wings to keep you in place. With this chair, you can spread out in comfort, and the wide seat also helps to distribute weight evenly.
Like the company’s previous gaming chair, the Razer Iskur, the Enki features built-in lumbar support that can be adjusted to support your back. The shoulder arches might not be that angled too far forward, but they’ll keep your back angled in the ideal seating position.
For extra ergonomics, the Enki comes with a plush head cushion for added neck and head support. The 4D armrests also let you adjust their position and height for your ideal setup. The Razer Enki is also upholstered with dual-textured, eco-friendly synthetic leather and if you want to kick back it also tilts back to 152-degrees.
Available in Razer Green, Black, and Quartz Pink, the Enki is available now for $399 from the Razer Store. If you’re looking for a slightly less expensive gaming chair, the $299 Razer Enki X is a pared-down option that doesn’t feature a reactive seat tilt mechanism or memory foam head pillow, and only comes with 2D armrests.
Be sure to also check out our full review on the Razer Enki as well as Razer’s RGB facemask in its final form, the Razer Zephyr.
