Project Triangle Strategy Gets ‘Fine-Tuned’ Ahead of March Release

Project Triangle Strategy, Square Enix's upcoming tactical RPG, is finally coming to the Nintendo Switch early next year, on March 4, 2022.

During today's Nintendo Direct presentation, it was announced that Square Enix and developer ArtDink have been working on "fine-tuning" the game based on feedback from a survey that went out alongside the game's free demo back in February.

These updates include adjustments to difficulty, improvements to on-screen visuals like the UI, camera controls, the ability to review prior dialogue, and streamlined game flow and loading times.

Project Triangle Strategy was announced earlier this year, and is a turn-based tactical RPG in the same visual style as Octopath Traveler. It follows a story of conflict between three nations and its aftermath, where a group of heroes travel the world and engage in various battles on different terrain, where elevation plays a role in tactics. Choice-based gameplay also impacts the narrative, with decisions hinging on utility, morality, and liberty.

Today's Nintendo Direct had plenty of other exciting announcements, so if you missed it you can catch our full recap of everything shown.

Animal Crossing: New Horizons Expansion Reveal Teased During Nintendo Direct

More than 18 months after its original release, Animal Crossing: New Horizons is finally get another expansion, but we'll have to wait a little longer to find out what it's all about. At a minimum we know it will feature the return of Brewster, a fan-favorite character who dates back to Animal Crossing: Wild World on the Nintendo DS.

The trailer shown during today's Nintendo Direct only offered a very brief glimpse of a new expansion to the museum, which will include Brewster's coffee shop. Nintendo will reveal much more about the expansion at a future event in October.

What happens, this content update is a long time coming for Animal Crossing fans. While Animal Crossing: New Horizons has introduced several new features since its Spring 2020 launch — including new characters, events, and the ability to go swimming — it still lacks some features from the 3DS game.

Despite that, Animal Crossing: New Horizons has been an incredible success for Nintendo, selling some 31 million copies in less than a year. It's been described as the quintessential pandemic game, its wholesome community building making it something of an international obsession during a period where people have been stuck indoors.

While many have since departed to play other games, the new expansion will hopefully be a great reason to venture back. It releases November. In the meantime, here's our full recap of today's Nintendo Direct.

Yoko Taro’s Card RPG Voice of Cards Heads to Switch this October

During today's Nintendo Direct presentation, we got our first proper look at Yoko Taro's upcoming card-based RPG, Voice of Cards: The Isle Dragon Roars, which we also learned is coming to Nintendo Switch on October 28.

The game is a turn-based RPG where everything, from characters to shops, towns and environments, is represented as cards. It's all represented on a tabletop, with characters clearly having different stats and certain rules dictating the outcomes of battles, which the trailer advertises as leaning on both skill and luck.

Aside from Taro's involvement, he's assembled a pile of Nier series veterans to work with on this new endeavor. Yosuke Saito is on board as executive producer, Kimihiko Fujisaka joins as a character designer, and Keiichi Okabe is directing music.

Voice of Cards was previously announced by publisher Square Enix earlier this month, with Taro at the time saying the project was “difficult to explain,” and a “somewhat unusual game.”

Taro's other recent works include recent mobile game Nier Reincarnation, a mobile game that takes place in the same universe as the mainline Nier games, as well as the remake of Nier Replicant.

Today's Nintendo Direct had plenty of other exciting announcements, so if you missed it you can catch our full recap of everything shown.
