The HTC Vive Pro 2 is a 5K VR Headset

HTC has announced the Vive Pro 2, the company’s first 5K VR headset. With its two 2.5K panels combine, the Vive Pro 2 displays a total of 4,896 x 2,648 pixels. By comparison the Valve Index has a 2,880 x 1,600 total resolution and the HP Reverb G2 is the sharpest mainstream option with 4,320 x 2,160 pixels. The only other virtual reality headsets that have even tried to approach that level of resolution are the Pimax 5K Super and Pimax Vision 8K X. [widget path="global/article/imagegallery" parameters="albumSlug=htc-vive-pro-2&captions=true"] The Vive Pro 2 isn’t just a higher-resolution headset, HTC also reworked its display technology to use real RGB sub-pixels. Essentially this means that every pixel has three sub-pixels to cover the red, green, and blue color spectrum. HTC claims the screens inside of the headset are more color accurate than an OLED panel that only comes with two sub-pixels. HTC Vive Pro 2 The Vive Pro 2 also features new bespoke dual stacked lenses designed to reduce motion blur and minimize the ‘screen door effect’ (where you can see the space between each pixel). Another benefit of the new lenses is the field of view has been increased to 120-degrees – which perfectly complements this headset’s 120Hz refresh rate too. Unfortunately, the Vive Pro 2 doesn’t feature any inside-out tracking system so you’ll still need to setup your infrared lighthouses. HTC’s new headset also is strikingly similar to its predecessor featuring the same head strap design, integrated 3D audio headphones, and adjustable size dial at the back. The good news of being basically the same headset, is the Vive Pro 2 will be compatible with any old accessories. This includes both the Base Station 1.0 or Base Station 2.0, Vive Wireless Adapter, Vive controllers, and Valve’s Index ‘knuckle’ controllers. HTC Vive Pro 2 The HTC Vive Pro 2 will retail for $749 ($799 after the special preorder period discount ends) for just the headset by itself and $1,399 for the headset, plus Vive controllers, and Base Station 2.0. The headset will be available for preorder staring May 11th and release on June 4th. We’ve been waiting for VR headsets to take a big leap in resolution and we hope it’s achievable with the new significantly more powerful Nvidia and AMD graphics cards out there. And for those who are still running older GPUs, HTC has told us it has worked closely with Nvidia and AMD to make its headset backwards compatible with DisplayPort 1.2 using Display Stream Compression. Of course, we’ll be testing and reviewing the HTC Vive Pro 2 soon, so stay tuned for more. [widget path="global/article/imagegallery" parameters="albumSlug=htc-vive-focus-3&captions=true"]

Professional Virtual Reality

On top of announcing the Vive Pro 2, HTC also introduced an even more professional-focused Vive Focus 3 for the enterprise world. Like the Vive Pro 2, the HTC Vive Focus 3 is a 5K headset that uses the same real RGB sub-pixel display and new bespoke dual stacked lenses – the only thing lacking is the only 90Hz refresh rate. The biggest difference about this headset is it’s an all-in-one VR headset powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon XR2 processor and it uses an inside-out tracking system similar the Oculus Quest 2. HTC Vive Focus 3 Now HTC’s previous inside-out tracing system on the Vive Cosmos hasn’t worked out perfectly, but the company promises it has completely revised its system with four high-resolution cameras and optically tracked controllers. HTC has also spent a lot of time engineering and elevating the profile of the new Vive Focus 3. Instead of a plastic shell, the new Focus 3 features a magnesium alloy chassis. The headset also features a perfectly balanced 50% weight ratio from front to back thanks to the 45-degree headband and moving the swappable battery to the back of the headband too. HTC Vive Focus 3 HTC hasn’t said exactly how long the Vive Focus 3 can run on its batteries, but they can quick charge up to 50% in just 30 minutes. A few other niceties on the Vive Focus 3 include magnetic front and back gaskets and open-back speakers built into the headset. The HTC Vive Focus 3 retails at $1,300 and it will go on sale on June 27th. [poilib element="accentDivider"] Have a tip for us? Want to discuss a possible story? The Protégé: Exclusive Trailer Debut

IGN has your exclusive first look at the trailer for The Protégé, an action thriller revenge film that features Samuel L. Jackson, Maggie Q, Michael Keaton, and Robert Patrick. You can watch it in the player above or via the embed below. The Protégé is directed by Casino Royale and Goldeneye's Martin Campbell and is set to be released in theaters on August 20, 2021. The official plot synopsis for The Protégé is a follows: "Rescued as a child by the legendary assassin Moody (Samuel L. Jackson) and trained in the family business, Anna (Maggie Q) is the world’s most skilled contract killer. But when Moody – the man who was like a father to her and taught her everything she needs to know about trust and survival – is brutally killed, Anna vows revenge. As she becomes entangled with an enigmatic killer (Michael Keaton) whose attraction to her goes way beyond cat and mouse, their confrontation turns deadly and the loose ends of a life spent killing will weave themselves even tighter." [ignvideo url="https://www.ign.com/videos/2021/05/11/the-protg-exclusive-official-trailer"] In an exclusive chat with IGN, Maggie Q discussed becoming Anna in the film and what it was like working with the cast and crew of The Protégé. She began by discussing how Anna differs from the other action badasses she has played. "I think differentiation always lies with intention. what motivates a character makes it different.  I have been a mentor but not had the dynamic I have with Sam Jackson in this movie. Father figures and how they shape you is a key motivator in the film," she explained. She continued to discuss how Anna takes out "people she believes the world is a better place without" and how Samuel L. Jackson's Moody is her lifeline - "A person who gives you a second chance, essentially gives you life. Not only does he know her best, he knew she deserved better than the life she left behind." FIN02_TheProtege_Teaser_cropIn regards to Michael Keaton, Maggie Q told us how he was the perfect choice to play her adversary, Rembrandt: "I can’t think of many times in my career where I’m watching an actor on set and I say to myself, 'This could never be what it is if it wasn’t you.' He is that good, as you know. It felt incredible to really 'find' these scenes together. It was so collaborative, as he always made me feel a part of the process of forming our relationship. I know that sounds obvious but it does not always happen. especially with an actor at his level. I was very very lucky." She ended our conversation by talking about director Martin Campbell and how, despite him being known for his action, he really excels at building strong characters the audience can care about. [widget path="global/article/imagegallery" parameters="albumSlug=the-protege&captions=true"]

"With this film, I think people are going to be surprised at the depth of his characters as opposed to the impressiveness of the action," Maggie Q said. "You have both… But if you are really looking for inside information, we focused mostly on the chemistry and the authenticity in the relationships... It’s what drives the film, and gives it purpose."

"Martin feels the way I do… There is no point in making an action movie just to make an action movie if you don’t have characters that people really care about and want to go on a journey with. That’s an empty movie. And we did not want to make an empty movie we wanted to make the opposite. And I believe that he did. I can’t even tell you how great it was to see him work and what he brought to me as an actor on every level."

The Protégé opens August 20.

The re-releases have been worked on by retro specialist Dotemu (Streets of Rage 4), and will be sold together for $14.99 (other regional prices not available at time of writing). [ignvideo url="https://www.ign.com/videos/2021/01/12/indiana-jones-game-in-the-works-from-bethesda-and-lucasfilm-games-ign-news"] Per a press release, the new features in both games include:

Ghoul Patrol also saw its last release on Virtual Console, and features a time-travelling storyline. The re-releases are part of the recent return of the Lucasfilm Games brand, which will see Star Wars, Indiana Jones and other LucasArts classics brought together under one banner. Lucasfilm Games says it has more projects to announce in 2021, including a number of projects from EA. [poilib element="accentDivider"] Joe Skrebels is IGN's Executive Editor of News. The Biggest Game on Roblox Just Opened Its Own Development Studio

The developers behind record-breaking Roblox game Adopt Me have launched an entire new studio to support it, called Uplift Games. A press release from Uplift Games reveals that whilst the studio was “originally founded by two talented Roblox developers, the team has now expanded to a 40-strong game studio, including a mix of experienced Roblox creators and veteran developers". Roblox is a hugely popular online platform, which allows players to create their own games for others in the community. Its success has been enormous, particularly with young players and, after going public in March, it was revealed that Roblox is now worth more than development giants Take-Two and Ubisoft combined. [ignvideo url="https://www.ign.com/videos/2021/04/14/a-roblox-player-poses-as-a-journalist-fools-white-house-officials"] Adopt Me originally launched on Roblox in 2017, and has gone on to become “the fastest growing and most successful Roblox title of all time”. Adopt Me is a game created within Roblox, where players can “build houses, collect and trade over 150 cute pets, and use in-game tools to create their own fun with friends”. The game has seen over 22 billion visits to date, and set a new world record for concurrent players on Roblox, hitting 1.92 million concurrent users in April 2021. The game also saw “100% growth” of new players between January 2020 and January 2021. With numbers like that, it’s no surprise that the team wants to flex its creative muscle and talent in a different direction – but Uplift also stressed its commitment to supporting Adopt Me through Roblox, stating that, “The studio will remain focused on Adopt Me, as well as future unannounced projects”. [ignvideo url="https://www.ign.com/videos/2021/01/26/roblox-big-paintball-trailer"] Interestingly, Uplift Games has been keen to highlight its positive health-focused approach to any projects it works on, stressing that, “The studio has an ambitious mission statement to deliver a healthy and inclusive working environment, while operating a hugely successful self-funded game. Developers have the freedom to work when and how they wish to meet development goals, which are themselves carefully managed by studio leadership to minimize overwork and burnout”. Given some of the recent high-profile reports of intense crunch and developer burnout in the games industry, this is a refreshing approach to see from a development studio. A statement from Josh Ling, the Director of Business Operations, confirmed this approach, saying that “Uplift Games is a place where great successful games can be made by people who live happy and healthy lives”. It’ll probably be a while until we see anything new from Uplift Games, but at least the development team is free to work at their own pace. Roblox's success is enticing more traditional game developers to the platform, with VVVVVV creator Terry Cavanagh creating his latest game exclusively for it. Justice League: Zack Snyder Says Warner Bros. Has Been ‘Aggressively Anti-Snyder’

Justice League director Zack Snyder has confirmed that Warner Bros. hasn't shown any interest in the SnyderVerse. According to Screen Rant, Snyder appeared on Jake's Takes to promote his upcoming Netflix movie Army of the Dead, though he also reflected on the Snyder cut of Justice League, which was released on HBO Max in March as a four-hour, R-rated director's cut. While touching on the subject, he revealed his hopes for Warner Bros. to take notice of the continuing campaign to restore the SnyderVerse. "Warner Bros. has been aggressively anti-Snyder if you will," Snyder admitted, reinforcing the studio's stance on his DCEU alternative. "What can I say? Clearly, they're not interested in my take. But I would also say that they certainly weren't interested in — I would have said originally — in my take on Justice League. They certainly made decisions about that." [ignvideo url="https://www.ign.com/videos/2021/03/23/how-zack-snyder-restored-the-heart-of-justice-league-ign-fix-entertainment"] The hashtag to "Restore the SnyderVerse" started trending on social media soon after Snyder's Justice League was released, with over a million tweets calling for Warner Bros. to allow the director to finish his DC Extended Universe plan. Snyder further acknowledged the support he has received from fans over the years, noting how he has "huge respect" for the "massive fandom." "I don't know what could be done as you go forward other than I think the fan movement is so strong, and the fan community, [their] intention is so pure, and I really have this huge respect for it," he said. "I would hope that cooler heads would prevail with [the studio] and they would see that there's this massive fandom that wants more of that. But who knows what they'll do?" The Snyder cut itself was released after a legion of fans coalesced into an online collective that, ultimately, a major motion picture studio could not ignore, resulting, in part, with the studio giving them exactly what they demanded by greenlighting Snyder's version of Justice League — the movie he originally began but Joss Whedon finished after Snyder left the project. [widget path="global/article/imagegallery" parameters="albumSlug=best-reviewed-movies-of-2021&captions=true"] As DC fans already know, the planned Justice League trilogy is no longer happening despite the fact that Snyder's Justice League ends on a massive cliffhanger. Snyder previously explained why the film sets up a direct sequel even though it is not likely to ever happen. He also shared how his potential trilogy could have ended with a shock new superhero, and much, much more. [poilib element="accentDivider"] Adele Ankers is a Freelance Entertainment Journalist. RockLove Announces New Marvel Doctor Strange Collection

In an exclusive reveal with IGN, RockLove has announced their newest Marvel collection: Doctor Strange. The collaboration with Marvel consists of four pieces, with accurate representation from Doctor Strange in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Speaking with IGN, RockLove CEO and Designer, Allison Cimino, shared the historical and modern inspiration for their newest collection, how it differs from past Marvel collaborations, and what they have in the works for future Marvel pieces. The Marvel x RockLove Doctor Strange Collection includes: [widget path="global/article/imagegallery" parameters="albumSlug=marvel-x-rocklove-doctor-strange-collection-first-look&captions=true"] The Rotating Spell Medallion was inspired by the astrolabe and has a rotating dial with etched sigils that spin – replicating Doctor Strange's hand motions while going forward and backward in time. Cimino went into detail on the historical influence of the piece. "I’ve had a lifelong passion for historical jewelry techniques and have often included them in RockLove, especially in the form of mechanical articulations," Cimino said. "An astrolabe is an ancient multi-millennia-old astronomical instrument that represents the universe and was historically used to measure altitude, time of day, identify celestial bodies, chart the tides and more. Handheld, and often worn as jewelry, they could triangulate time and location in space, which is VERY apropos for Doctor Strange!" In terms of the influence for the medallion from Doctor Strange himself, Cimino said the sigils and geometry are accurate to the MCU. "The sigils in Marvel X RockLove’s Doctor Strange Spell Medallion are true to those seen on-screen, glowing as a practitioner brandishes the Time Spell magic." [widget path="global/article/imagegallery" parameters="albumSlug=marvel-x-rocklove-doctor-strange-collection-rolemodel-gallery&captions=true"] "The rest of the collection, including the Spell Bangle, Spell Hoop Earrings, and the Spell Spinner Ring are renditions of the same fractal geometry and sigils of the Time Spell," Cimino said. "Every surface of the Spinner Ring is etched with the potent iconography and features spinning articulation – perfect for the fidgeting Magician!" When Cimino designed the collection, she tested the Spell Bangle and Spell Hoop Earrings both flat and three-dimensional – wanting to translate the Time Spell magic on-screen into a geometric design. "I was concerned about the final pieces being a comfortable weight but didn’t want to miss a chance playing with 'time and space,'" Cimino said. "Ultimately the multi-dimensional concept won, and the hoops were made in a diameter that would be light enough for every-day wear." In comparison to the most recent Marvel x RockLove collections, such as Loki, Captain America, and Black Widow, Cimino said the Doctor Strange Collection is their most unisex collaboration so far, as it's solely metal without any gemstones. "The three-dimensional geometric silhouettes are reminiscent of Sacred Geometry to the non-Marvel fan. I most enjoy that this series is both an homage to a specific character AND transports the wearer into the Marvel Universe." [ignvideo url="https://www.ign.com/videos/2019/08/14/what-is-doctor-strange-2s-multiverse-of-madness"] With the expansion of Marvel's stories on-screen, including WandaVision, Loki, The Falcon and the Winter Soldier, along with new characters coming into the MCU in Shang-Chi and Eternals – Cimino said, "In addition to my own inspired-by pieces, RockLove has been collaborating with Marvel Studios to create some very special prop replica jewelry that will be launching at various points through 2021!" Cimino said the Doctor Strange Collection, "lets us all tap into the ways of magic, specifically with the Time Spell!" To stay up to date on RockLove's newest collections, you can head over to rocklove.com and subscribe to their newsletter, or follow them on social media platforms @rocklovejewelry for behind-the-scenes sneak peeks and reveals. Nier Reincarnation is a whole new mobile RPG set in the Nier universe directed by Yoko Taro and Daichi Matsukawa. Nier Reincarnation stars a Girl in White who wakes up in a realm called the Cage. Check out the trailer below. [ignvideo url="https://www.ign.com/videos/2021/05/11/nier-reincarnation-english-trailer"] Core members of the Nier development team including Taro, producer Yosuke Saito, and composer Keiichi Okabe are all involved in this fairly robust-looking mobile game. Given Taro's involvement in Reincarnation's development, you can expect sad, existential stories galore. Pre-registration is available on both the iOS App Store and Google Play Store. Those who pre-register through Android could potentially be chosen to participate in an upcoming closed beta. Square Enix and Applibot are also hosting a sign-up promotion where all players will receive 3,000 gems (this is a mobile game after all) if 300,000 people pre-register. These gems can be used on summons, which indicates there will be gacha mechanics in Nier Reincarnation. [ignvideo url="https://www.ign.com/videos/2021/04/23/nier-replicant-ver122474487139-accolades-launch-trailer"] There's a lot of Nier to go around these days. Following the success of Nier: Automata, Square Enix recently released Nier Replicant ver. 1.22474487139, a remake of the original Nier from 2010. Nier games are lauded for their deep storytelling and dark worldbuilding and Nier Reincarnation looks to continue that tradition. Margot Robbie Is Trying To Persuade Warner Bros. To Bring Poison Ivy to the DCEU

Margot Robbie has revealed that she keeps "pestering" Warner Bros. to add Poison Ivy to the DCEU. Speaking recently to Den of Geek, Robbie, who portrayed Harley Quinn in 2016's Suicide Squad and 2020's Birds of Prey, said she had been actively pushing to get another iconic DC Comics character into the DCEU, as she admitted that she is an untiring advocate of Poison Ivy being given some screen time, in part because she would love to see the antics of the mischievous duo. "Trust me, I chew their ear off about it all the time," Robbie said, when asked if there had been any discussions about bringing Poison Ivy to the DCEU. "They must be sick of hearing it, but I'm like, 'Poison Ivy, Poison Ivy. Come on, let's do it.' I'm very keen to see a Harley-Poison Ivy relationship on screen. It'd be so fun. So I'll keep pestering them. Don't worry." [ignvideo url="https://www.ign.com/videos/2021/04/01/the-suicide-squad-official-trailer-2"] This isn't the first time it has been suggested that Harley Quinn and Poison Ivy's relationship could be explored further. Filmmaker Cathy Yan previously said she would be interested in directing a Birds of Prey sequel that could dig deeper into their connection, saying she "would love to see Poison Ivy" make her DCEU debut alongside Robbie's maniacal villain. If given the green light, Yan certainly wouldn't be short of source material for the dynamic duo's first live-action adventure. Harley Quinn and Poison Ivy have a long, complicated history in the DC Universe, starting out with their team-up in Batman: The Animated Series, through which they quickly established themselves as Gotham City's very own version of Thelma and Louise. Given their immense popularity, the DC power couple were integrated into a swathe of other DC TV shows and comic book series, including a Harley Quinn solo series, written by Amanda Connor and Jimmy Palmiotti. It was across these pages that Harley Quinn and Poison Ivy's romantic relationship became official canon after it being hinted at subtextually for years. [widget path="global/article/imagegallery" parameters="albumSlug=dc-extended-universe-every-upcoming-movie&captions=true"] Robbie's Harley Quinn was last featured in Birds of Prey and will be making her third movie appearance in James Gunn's The Suicide Squad this summer, on August 6. She is just one member of the movie's supervillain squad, comprising of Bloodsport, Peacemaker, Captain Boomerang, Ratcatcher 2, Savant, King Shark, Blackguard, and Javelin — though it's unclear how many of these characters will survive. PS5 Got Nike Shoes, So Xbox Seems to Be Getting Adidas Shoes

Last week PlayStation revealed a pair of PlayStation 5 themed sneakers with Nike, and now it looks like Xbox is partnering with Adidas on its own console-themed shoes. Complex cites "sources familiar with the upcoming collaboration" in its report, which offers a sample of an Xbox-branded Adidas shoe. The brand deal remains unannounced, but Complex says that the schedule of the collaboration will see four Xbox-themed shoes coming this year, with more potentially planned for 2022. [caption id="" align="aligncenter" width="1400"] Reported image of work-in-progress Xbox sneakers. (Source: Complex)[/caption] The 2021 shoes mentioned will all reportedly be variants of Adidas' popular Forum basketball silhouette. As can be seen in the image of a work-in-progress sample above, the shoe has multiple Xbox details, including a distinct logo on the side and a lattice trim around the heel reminiscent of the top vent of the Xbox Series X. Complex's report notes that the shoes will arrive "in black and green boxes with Xbox logos on them." Sony's Paul George 5 PlayStation 5 sneakers have their own smart details, including embedded PlayStation face buttons and logos on the tongue of the shoe. In other gaming sneaker news, Marvel and Adidas collaborated back in November of 2020 to reveal a pair of Adidas shoes as part of a promotion for Marvel's Spider-Man: Miles Morales. We've also written about how sneaker culture helped predict scalping that plagued the PS5 and Xbox Series X/S launches.
