Silent Hill: Shattered Memories Spiritual Successor in the Works From Original Writer

Award-winning game designer Sam Barlow is cooking up a pitch for a spiritual successor to Silent Hill: Shattered Memories, which he served as lead designer and writer on in 2009. However, the pitch will not be for Konami nor will it use the Silent Hill IP. Barlow, who is best known for his award-winning games like Her Story and Telling Lies, teased on Twitter that he’s working on a pitch for a Shattered Memories follow-up. Speaking to IGN, Barlow clarified exactly what this pitch entails. “[W]e have a game we’re looking to make which is very much ‘what was special about [Shattered Memories]?’ ‘how would you take that further now?’” Barlow says. “Like Outer World’s take on Fallout, or Bloodstained’s take on Castlevania, etc. So it’s not a Konami or branded Silent Hill thing.” [ignvideo url="https://www.ign.com/videos/2019/08/16/telling-lies-e3-trailer"] Barlow also says that it will incorporate lessons he’s learned from Her Story, Telling Lies, and his upcoming Project A and roll them back into a 3rd person game experience. Barlow is currently developing Project A, which is not the Shattered Memories follow-up. However, he confirmed that Project A will be “spooky” and that wishlisting the game will serve as a “downpayment on the [Shattered Memories] successor, also known as Project Door Peek.” Silent Hill: Shattered Memories was a 2009 retelling of the original Silent Hill game. Like the original PlayStation 1 horror game, Shattered Memories followed Harry Mason as he searches for his daughter in the town of Silent Hill. The game used psychological profiles to cater to the player and change elements of the story for every individual. Some, like this author, consider it one of the best Silent Hill games in the series. Soul to Premiere on Disney Plus, Skipping Theatrical Release

Disney announced that upcoming Pixar film Soul will skip its theatrical release and head straight to Disney+ this holiday season. It will debut exclusively on the streaming service December 25th, 2020. Originally scheduled to open in theaters on November 20th, it was heavily rumored that Soul would move to Disney+ after Disney’s upcoming movie release schedule was delayed again. [widget path="global/article/imagegallery" parameters="albumSlug=every-upcoming-disney-and-pixar-animated-movie&captions=true"] This is the third major Disney film to forego theaters in lieu of Disney+ after Artemis Fowl joined the service on June 12th and Mulan debuted on September 3rd, albeit with a premium fee required to watch the latter. It’s unclear if Soul will be included at no additional cost to Disney+ subscribers, or if it will require paying the premium rental fee for a limited time - we're guessing the former, given that there was no additional cost announced in Disney's press release. For markets where Disney+ isn’t available, Soul will still be released theatrically with new release dates being announced soon. [ignvideo width=610 height=374 url=https://www.ign.com/videos/2020/06/29/soul-official-sneak-peek] Soul is Pixar’s latest animated film starring Jamie Foxx, Tina Fey, Phylicia Rashad, Ahmir ‘Questlove’ Thompson, Angela Bassett, and Daveed Diggs. It is directed by Pete Docter, who also directed Pixar’s Inside Out and Up — so get ready to cry. For more on Disney check out when you’ll be able to watch Mulan for free and all of the upcoming Disney and Pixar films coming out in 2020 and beyond. How to Find and Enter the Vault in Doom's Domain

To enter the vault in Doom's Domain, you must first defeat Doctor Doom, who can be found inside the large house towards the Northern side of the town. fortnite-week-7-challeneges-find-dooms_domainDoctor Doom can deal quite a bit of damage, so it's important to use your environment to your advantage as you will want to stay at range and avoid his incoming AOE attacks. How to Find and Use Storm's Whirlwind Blast

Storm's Whirlwind Blast is only available through Marvel's Limited-Time Modes or from the Stark Drones, which can be found flying around the Quinjet Patrol Sites. While either method will complete the weekly challenge, we recommend obtaining Storm's Whirlwind Blast through the Marvel Takeover mode as the ability can be obtained quite quickly. fortnite-season-7-challenges-how-to-find-use-storm-whirlwind-blast-locationUpon launching the timed mode, locate the Whirlwind icon on the mini-map and pick it up. Now that you have Storm's Whirlwind Blast ability, use it when close to an opponent to knock them back. While knocked back, begin dealing damage to your opponent. You'll need to deal a total of 1,000 damage to complete the challenge. If you're struggling to deal damage to your opponents while they're knocked back, try using Iron Man's Repulsor Gauntlets as they lock onto your target and will deal damage from a safe distance. Microsoft and GameStop’s New Agreement Doesn’t Turn the Retail Chain into Xbox Stores

GameStop and Microsoft have entered into a new, multi-year partnership. What does it mean for customers? Not a whole lot, actually as the partnership appears to primarily impact GameStop’s back-end, transferring over GameStop systems over to Microsoft’s 365 cloud solutions. In a joint announcement, GameStop and Microsft announced a new multi-year partnership that will mostly see GameStop’s back-end solutions move over to Microsoft’s programs like Microsoft 365. This basically means GameStop stores will adopt Microsoft programs to help run business operations like sales and inventory, and store employees will use Microsoft 365 and Teams to communicate. [widget path="global/article/imagegallery" parameters="albumSlug=confirmed-xbox-series-x-games&captions=true"] Stores will also get Microsoft Surface devices for store managers to use. Having worked retail, I’m sure the Surface devices will be an improvement over the standard retail computer systems. GameStop also confirmed that it will carry the Xbox All Access payment plan that lets customers purchase an Xbox Series X for $34.99 a month for 24 months. This isn’t particularly news as Microsoft announced GameStop would be an All Access retail partner back in September, along with Best Buy, Target, and Walmart. So no, GameStop’s 5,000 retail locations are not being converted to Microsoft Stores. In fact, most customers will likely not find any immediate impact from the news other than perhaps seeing more Microsoft Surface devices at store locations. Considering Microsoft closed all of its own retail stores earlier this year, it appears that Microsoft’s strategy is to integrate its popular cloud software into existing retailers while selling its devices through partners and online. For more on the upcoming Xbox Series X, check out IGN's Xbox Series X guide with specs, pricing, launch games, and more details. [poilib element="accentDivider"] Matt T.M. Kim is a reporter for IGN.

Unreal Engine to Be Used in Cars, Starting With New Hummer EV Model

Epic Games has announced a new Human-Machine Interface (HMI) initiative that will enable the creation of automotive infotainment and digital cockpit experiences. Furthermore, it was revealed that General Motors' soon-to-be-revealed GMC Hummer EV will be the first vehicle to use Unreal Engine in its digital cockpit, with more information coming on October 20, 2020. This new technology, which you can see in the video below, will enable designers, artists, and developers to work directly on the project that is deployed to the vehicle. It will allow for "beautiful, interactive visuals" using its advanced scalable renderer and even downloadable content like a Rocket League pack that will change your virtual car and look of the UI to match the ever-popular game. [ignvideo url="https://www.ign.com/videos/2020/10/08/unreal-engine-hmi-initiative-automotive"] Epic has created new Unreal Engine alliances with HMI technolgy leaders, including BlackBerry QNX, Mapbox, Qualcomm Technologies, Inc., Siili Auto, and Vectorform, which will make it "easier for automotive companies to work more efficiently when building in-vehicle experiences." “We have a dedicated team of artists and engineers who have been working to support new features for HMI. We’re thrilled that the GMC HUMMER EV will be the first vehicle to use Unreal Engine in its digital cockpit, marking an exciting partnership in building next-generation experiences on embedded systems,” said François Antoine, Director of HMI and Embedded Systems, Epic Games. “As we move towards level five vehicle autonomy, in-car infotainment systems will become more and more relevant to influencing consumer purchase decisions, and Unreal Engine will bring new levels of flexibility, interactivity and visual fidelity to these next generation systems.” The Unreal Engine will provide many benefits for a design driven development, including support for version control, visual scripting via Blueprints, and direct access to a C++ codebase that enables more functionality to be exposed. [widget path="global/article/imagegallery" parameters="albumSlug=unreal-engine-hmi-initiative-screenshots&captions=true"] Epic states that many automotive companies are already using Unreal Engine for car configurations and marketing operations, and these existing projects, assets, and pipeline can "be reused with little effort for HMI systems, only requiring mobile optimization of assets."
