Marvel’s Avengers DLC and Next-Gen Versions Delayed

Square Enix and Crystal Dynamics have delayed the next major updates for Marvel’s Avengers, pushing the next-gen versions into next year and delaying the addition of the game’s first DLC character, Kate Bishop. In a post on the Avengers blog, Crystal Dynamics’ studio head, Scot Amos, apologised for the “slight delay” to the Kate Bishop DLC, but explained that it is due to ensuring new content is given the time for extensive internal testing. “With this in mind, we’ve decided to push Kate Bishop’s Operation launch back a bit, out of October,” said Amos, but no new date was given for this first new character. [ignvideo url="https://www.ign.com/videos/2020/09/01/marvels-avengers-kate-bishop-reveal-trailer"] Additionally, Amos explained that next-gen updates are being pushed back. “We’ve also made the decision to shift our PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S launch to next year to ensure that we give our team the time to deliver a next-gen experience showcasing all that this game is meant to be,” he said. While a next-gen version with optimised upgrades won’t arrive for a while, Amos does note that playing the current-gen versions on PS5 or Xbox Series consoles will benefit from improved frame rates and faster loading times. These are issues that Avengers on current-gen certainly suffers with, so there should be some noticeable benefit. Amos also confirmed that existing saves will transfer to next-gen consoles. In addition to detailing the delays, Amos also apologies for the troubles Avengers has suffered in its first months. “Marvel’s Avengers’ launch was not without turbulence, and we recognize that a number of issues detracted from your enjoyment of the game,” he said. “This does not align with Crystal Dynamics’ value of craftsmanship, and for that we sincerely apologize.” [widget path="global/article/imagegallery" parameters="albumSlug=marvels-avengers-hero-challenge-cards-vendors-and-marketplace&captions=true"] As a thank you to players who have suffered through that launch, Crystal Dynamics is giving all players 1500 credits, 7000 units, 250 upgrade modules, 20 DNA keys, and a Sarah Garza-inspired nameplate. These rewards will be added to your account if you log in between October 22 and November 5. While the most anticipated content has been delayed, Amos assured players that performance and stability, multiplayer matchmaking, rewards, and late-game content is all being worked on at the studio. This includes a much-requested ping system, and the ability to replay the campaign with your high-level gear. NHL 21 Review

EA was supposed to release NHL 21 during this year's Stanley Cup playoffs, but complications due to COVID-19 led to a delay. The Tampa Bay Lightning won the Stanley Cup weeks ago, and as a result, ice hockey has escaped the wider public sports consciousness as other leagues take hold. But NHL 21 is a compelling reason to care about hockey again, as this year's game delivers a major improvement to the story mode, adds a flashy new arcade-style mode in HUT Rush, and makes the on-the-ice gameplay better than ever thanks to a series of new skill moves that let you play with more style.

Be A Pro 2.0

The biggest new addition for NHL 21 is the expanded and improved Be A Pro. After NHL 20 delivered basically no updates on the career-focused mode, NHL 21 offers a huge step forward thanks to a cinematic-style campaign of sorts, where you create a character and guide them through their career, beginning in either Europe or the Canadian Hockey League and competing for a spot in the NHL. The story beats play out through non-voiced dialogue sequences and cutscenes with coaches, media, and teammates. The main choices you make come from the Team or Star paths, and both have pros and cons to consider as you weigh your options to shape your career in the way you want to.

As an example, my agent called me to ask if I wanted to attend a charity event for a wildlife protection company. I chose the "Team" response, and my brand rating improved because the simulation suggested my fans would see this as a sports star being humble and genuine. However, choosing this option came with a negative effect, too, as my agent told me it was a noble choice but I should also plan for my life after hockey and try to make as much money in my prime as possible. I enjoyed the struggle of making these choices, and I found myself choosing one option and then loading a previous save to see how things would have played out differently. The choices you have to make can be real head-scratchers and they generally seem believable and taken from real-world headlines. But while the conversation system and cutscenes are generally enjoyable and a step up from the past iterations of Be A Pro, they are at times very cheesy and contrived, so the conversations and their impact don't always resonate.

The Mandalorian Season 3 to Begin Filming Before the End of 2020

The Mandalorian executive producer and showrunner Jon Favreau has confirmed production of Season 3 of the popular Disney+ Star Wars serial is on track to begin “before the end of the year,” according to Variety. A specific date was not revealed, though leading man Pedro Pascal is currently in Croatia filming scenes for the 2021 action comedy The Unbearable Weight of Massive Talent, alongside Nicolas Cage. [ignvideo url="https://www.ign.com/videos/2020/09/17/the-mandalorian-season-2-trailer-breakdown"] Favreau also admitted The Mandalorian team are amenable to the potential of a movie emerging from The Mandalorian universe, though he stressed he’s in “no rush” to see the show as anything but a streaming series for now. “But we’re definitely open to it,” said Favreau, “and excited to see where the story leads us and have that flexibility — because there’s no rulebook now.” [widget path="global/article/imagegallery" parameters="albumSlug=every-actor-and-character-confirmed-for-the-mandalorian&captions=true"] The Mandalorian's second season is set to arrive on Disney+ on October 30, 2020. It’s a season that may leave us with more questions than answers, though, as Giancarlo Esposito recently hinted that "answers" will come in seasons 3 and 4. Mario Cafe Opens at Universal Studios Japan

Universal Studios Japan held a media-only opening ceremony today for its new Mario Cafe & Store, which will be open to the public from October 16. IGN Japan was present to share the following video and photos. Let’s-a go! [ignvideo url="https://www.ign.com/videos/2017/06/08/super-nintendo-world-japan-teaser-trailer"] The cafe is decorated with cute Mario motifs such as Warp Pipes, Question Blocks and Piranha Plants, and serves two different cream-filled pancake sandwiches – a red Mario hat topped with strawberries, and a green Luigi hat topped with grapes. The drinks menu includes sodas themed around Mario, Luigi and Peach, with moustaches or a crown attached to the straw for Instagram photo tomfoolery. A reusable Super Mushroom cup with strap and straw is also available to buy. [widget path="global/article/imagegallery" parameters="albumSlug=universal-studios-japan-mario-cafe-grand-opening&captions=true"] The store is packed with dozens and dozens of exclusive merchandise items themed around the three characters – everything from clothing to jewelry to water bottles to souvenir snacks. Much of the merchandise is emblazoned with the phrase “Whose cap?” or “Whose crown?”, with motifs based on Mario, Luigi and Peach’s hats, moustaches, crown and silhouette. Strangely, their faces are not featured anywhere. [widget path="global/article/imagegallery" parameters="albumSlug=universal-studios-japan-mario-merch&captions=true"] The cafe and store were originally intended as part of the Super Nintendo World area that was slated to open this summer, but has been pushed back to spring 2021 due to covid-19 countermeasures. A representative of Universal Studios Japan said that the merchandise in the store will be exclusive to that location, with different merchandise available when the full Super Nintendo World finally opens next year. The Boys Season 3 Begins Filming in 2021

The Boys Season 2 just wrapped, ending with another big surprise reveal. Now, Season 3 is officially set to begin filming in 2021 according to showrunner Eric Kripke. As reported by Entertainment Weekly, Kripke tweeted out the following, “Season 3 Begins Filming Early 2021 — You’re Not F***ing Ready.” [caption id="attachment_2424478" align="alignnone" width="720"]via Erick Kripke on Twitter via Erick Kripke on Twitter[/caption] Also attached was a photo of the first episode’s script which is titled “Payback.” The episode is being written by Craig Rosenberg, who is also executive producing the upcoming superhero college-themed spinoff of The Boys. Season 3 will formally introduce Soldier Boy — the original superhero that fought in World War II who will be played by Supernatural star Jensen Ackles. The first episode’s title is a reference to Soldier Boy’s superhero team, Payback, an obvious parody of The Avengers. "Payback, in the world of our show, was the Seven before the Seven," Kripke told EW. "We will be exploring the history of that team and all the members in it.” [widget path="global/article/imagegallery" parameters="albumSlug=the-boys-season-2-gallery&captions=true"] We learned a bit about Soldier Boy’s backstory in Season 2; primarily that he was the first person that Vought founder Frederick Vought injected with the super-serum Compound V. "Through the history of the supes, we can tell a little bit about the history of America and how we ended up in the current fraught position that we're in. Soldier Boy gives us an opportunity to do that," said Kripke. [ignvideo width=610 height=374 url=https://www.ign.com/videos/2020/10/10/the-boys-season-ending-explained] In the comic series, Soldier Boy’s Payback team included Stormfront (who was introduced in Season 2, a play on Thor), Eagle the Archer (also appeared briefly in Season 2, a Hawkeye parallel), Crimson Countess (a Scarlett Witch knockoff), Mind-Droid (that’s Vision), Swatto (Ant-Man, of course), and Tek Knight (a close proxy to Iron Man). Besides learning more about Soldier Boy and Payback, we know that Homelander will be a ”homicidal maniac” according to his actor Antony Starr. For more on The Boys check out our review of Season 2’s finale as well as an explanation for everything that happened at the end of Season 2. Animal Crossing: Get a Tour of Joe Biden’s Island This Friday

Kinda Funny co-founder and IGN alum Greg Miller and screenwriter and Animal Talking's Gary Whitta have teamed up with United States Presidential candidate Joe Biden's campaign to show off the official Biden Island in Animal Crossing: New Horizons. Miller and Whitta will be the first to show off Biden Island tomorrow, October 16, at 11am PT/2pm ET/7pm BST on Twitch.TV/KindaFunnyGames, and the tour will take place live in-game. Screenshot_2020-10-15 Greg Miller on Twitter This showcase takes place only a little over two weeks away from the 2020 U.S. Presidential Election on November 3, 2020, and is another example of these campaigns adapting in a world still impacted by the COVID-19 pandemic, as well as taking advantage of current and popular forms of entertainment. Joe Biden's island is another example of celebrities making a home for themselves in Animal Crossing: New Horizons. IGN recently hosted a Celebrity Island Tours series where we had such stars as The Last of Us Part 2's Laura Bailey, What's Good Games Andrea Rene, Marvel's Shang-Chi's Simu Liu, WWE's Xavier Woods, and Gary Whitta himself. Mass Effect Legendary Edition Has Been Rated in South Korea

Fans have been eagerly awaiting a potential remaster of the Mass Effect Trilogy for what feels like forever, and it seems it may be closer than we think. As reported by Gematsu, the Game Rating and Administration Committee of Korea has rated an unannounced Mass Effect Legendary Edition. [widget path="global/article/imagegallery" parameters="albumSlug=every-ign-bioware-game-review&captions=true"] Just last month a Portuguese retailer listed the Mass Effect Trilogy for PS4, Xbox One, and Nintendo Switch, but nothing has been announced since the listings went up. November 7th marks N7 Day, a day where BioWare celebrates the rich Mass Effect history with fans of the series. Generally, it includes announcements and updates of upcoming projects for the Mass Effect franchise. Last year's N7 day was a bit underwhelming, adding in Mass Effect-themed emotes to the floundering Anthem — just months before the team at BioWare began rebuilding it from the ground up due to negative criticism and fan feedback. [ignvideo width=610 height=374 url=https://www.ign.com/videos/2020/02/06/billie-eilishs-secret-mass-effect-connection-ign-daily-fix] After the disappointing launch of Mass Effect Andromeda, fans have been clamoring for a new entry in the series. While BioWare is currently working on Dragon Age 4, rumors began circulating late last year that a new entry in the Mass Effect series was in early development. In an interview with BioWare's Executive Producer Mark Darrah, he reaffirmed they are, "definitely not done with Mass Effect," along with saying, "there's a lot of stories to be told." While it's unlikely we'll see a new proper Mass Effect game anytime soon, we'll happily settle for that remaster trilogy in the meantime.
