The Haunting of Bly Manor’s Premiere Has a Nod to Stephen King’s The Shining
Now that Netflix's The Haunting of Bly Manor has been out for over a week, giving many a chance to watch most or all of the 9-episode series, let's quickly dive back into the first episode, "A Great Good Place," and take a peek at the fun Stephen King/Shining nod that flashes by pretty quickly.
Of course, it totally fits that director Mike Flanagan would toss in a King reference, and a Shining one at that, considering how he's adapted King novels Gerald's Game and Doctor Sleep - the latter of which was a sequel to both the King's The Shining book and Stanley Kubrick's The Shining movie, which contains some of the most iconic horror cinema images of all time.
At the start of Bly Manor, Victoria Pedretti's Dani, who'll soon move into Bly Manor, is staying in a London hostel - in Room 217. Better known to king fans as the room with the wicked old naked woman ghost in the bathtub in The Shining. That phantom, and the tub too, actually return with much prominence in Doctor Sleep.
Of course, in Kubrick's film, which contains a ton of changes to the King's original material, the room that haunts both Jack and Danny Torrance is Room 237. But in the book it's Room 217. Here's Dani returning to her room...
Here's a bit of backstory on the reason for the room number change. The hotel that stood in for the exterior of The Shining's "Overlook" in the movie, The Timberland Lodge, posted the following detail on their site:
Kubrick was asked not to depict Room 217 (featured in the book) in The Shining, because future guests at the Lodge might be afraid to stay there. So a nonexistent room, Room 237, was substituted in the film. Curiously, and somewhat ironically, Room 217 is requested more often than any other room at Timberline.
Naturally, Flanagan used the original room number from the book for this fun little tip of the hat.
But that's not the only detail lurking in the background of The Haunting of Bly Manor. We've clocked over 50 hidden ghosts hiding in the shadows of the series - check it out!

Spider-Man 3’s First Look Is Reportedly Coming in 2020
At ExpoCine 2020, Sony Pictures has allegedly said that we will get our first look at Spider-Man: Far From Home's sequel in December 2020.
As reported by Murphy's Multiverse, Camila Pacheco, the executive marketing director of Sony Pictures Entertainment in Brazil, told "attendees that the film had already started production and that we would get our first look at the film this December 2020."
[widget path="global/article/imagegallery" parameters="albumSlug=ranking-the-spider-man-movies&captions=true"]
Pacheco, who was said to also be wearing a Spider-Man shirt for this event, "alternated between the words preview and teaser trailer when discussing the project," and she also confirmed that Spider-Man 3's December 17, 2021 release date is still what the studio is planning for.
There have been many reports coming in recently regarding Spider-Man 3, including that Jamie Foxx's Electro from The Amazing Spider-Man 2 is set to join the Marvel Cinematic Universe with this upcoming film. It is unclear if he will be playing the same character or a different variation, but Foxx did mention in a now deleted Instagram post that he "won't be blue in this one."
Additionally, another report says that Benedict Cumberbatch's Doctor Strange will also be joining the cast of Spider-Man 3 and will take on a "mentor role" for Holland's Spider-Man.

For more on Spider-Man 3, read out take on whether or not Doctor Strange joining Spider-Man 3 means the MCU could be adapting a controversial Marvel Comics story and if he and Jamie Foxx's Electro will bring the Spider-Verse to this new movie.
IGN has reached out to Sony Pictures for a comment but has not heard back as of this writing.

Destiny 2’s PS5 and Xbox Series X/S Upgrades Will Arrive in December 2020
While Destiny 2 will be able to take advantage of faster load times and cross-generation play when Xbox Series X/S and PS5 are released on November 10 and November 12, respectively, the next-gen optimized versions will not be ready until December 8, 2020.
Bungie detailed all the features owners of these new systems can expect on December 8, including 4K for PS5 and Xbox Series X (1080p on Xbox Series S), 60FPS framerate, and a field of view slider. It was also reiterated that the next-gen upgrade for all consoles will be free.
[ignvideo url="https://www.ign.com/videos/2020/10/07/destiny-2-beyond-light-weapons-and-gear-trailer"]
Bungie has also noted that this is the first time it is offering Field of View customization on consoles, and the goal is to enable a FOV range similar to that on PC. Also, while loading the game and inspecting character inventory will be much quicker, "some load times are dependent on networking and matchmaking. So, loading activities still takes time while you search for opponents."
Additionally, Xbox Series X/S players will only be able to play with Xbox One players, while PS5 players will only be able to play with PS4 players.
Destiny 2's latest expansion, Beyond Light, will be released on November 10, and is the first chapter in a new trilogy of expansion for Destiny 2 that will also include 2021's The Witch Queen and 2022's Lightfall.

Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order: Cal Kestis’ Lightsaber Headed to Galaxy’s Edge
Fans were able to vote on the next lightsaber they'd like to see made available for purchase at Dok-Ondar's Den of Antiquities in Star Wars: Galaxy's Edge at Walt Disney World and Disneyland, and Cal Kestis' from Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order has been chosen as the winner.
Cal's lightsaber won with 40.79% of the votes, beating out Qui-Gon Jinn (19.56%), Anakin Skywalker (12.37%), Lord Corvax (11.41%), Kanan Jarrus (9.85%), and Ezra Bridger (6.02%).
Cal's lightsaber will be available later next year and will be the first lightsaber offered at Dok's to have originated from a video game, and joins other classic sabers inspired by such iconic heroes and villains as Luke Skywalker, Rey, Darth Vader, and more.
While it may be a little while until you can purchase Cal's lightsaber, Ahsoka Tano's lightsabers from Star Wars: The Clone Wars and Count Dooku's curved handle will be available at Star Wars: Galaxy's Edge this fall.
Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order was released in 2019 and, in our review, we said "It’s been ages since we got a great single-player Star Wars action game, but Jedi: Fallen Order makes up for a lot of lost time. A strong cast sells a dark story while keeping things fun and loyal to Star Wars lore, and fast, challenging combat mixes with energetic platforming, decent puzzles, and diverse locations to explore for an all-around amazing game."

How Adam Sandler Knows if He’s Made a Hit Movie or Not
Adam Sandler, who makes movies exclusively for Netflix these days, recently discussed how he uses his own gut feeling, his own internal barometer, to figure out if he's made a hit film or not.
Appearing on The Dan Patrick Show, Sandler, whose new comedy Hubie Halloween arrived on Netflix this month, said he could just tell by the vibes he gets from fans. Of course, when his movies were in theaters, there was always the box office to go by. And at Netflix, they have their own metrics for determining hits. But for Sandler himself, it's a little more internal and personal.
"I just got it," he said, on whether he knows if he's made a flop or not. "You get a feeling. When I have a hit coming, I walk differently. The bones feel better, I hear better, I react better to like ‘Hey, Sandman’ on the street. I’ll go, ‘Hey, what’s up.’ When I got something coming out that’s not going to do well, the bones feel dead, there’s no hop, I’m flat-footed, I hear, ‘Hey, Sandman,’ and I do this [shies away motion] ‘No, no.’ You know? [Hubie]’s a hit."
[ignvideo url="https://www.ign.com/videos/2020/10/07/hubie-halloween-official-teaser-trailer"]
You can check out our review of Hubie Halloween, which called it a return to the comedian's "dumb-but-sweet man-child roots."
In other movie news, Michael B. Jordan has signed on produce DC's upcoming Static Shock movie, Anya Taylor-Joy will play Furiosa in an upcoming Mad Max prequel, and Joaquin Phoenix will reportedly play Napoleon in a new movie to be directed by Ridley Scott.
And if you're looking for some choice Netflix fare, we recently gave Aaron Sorkin's The Trial of the Chicago 7 a "10."

The Boys Season 3 Will See The Deep Fight Back Against the Cult
The cast of The Boys features a lot of different personalities, but none have seen an arc quite like The Deep, and in Season 3, he's going to take it even further.
Eric Kripke, showrunner for The Boys, sat down for an interview with The Hollywood Reporter recently in which he discussed his many inspirations for the show, including satirizing Hollywood itself.
[widget path="global/article/imagegallery" parameters="albumSlug=the-boys-season-2-gallery&captions=true"]
Season 2 saw The Deep exploring his spiritual side after being kicked out of The Seven, leading him to join a group called the Church of the Collective.
When asked whether the group originated from the comics or something wholly new, Kripke said, "We came up with it. It’s a combination of a couple different Hollywood fringe religions or cults."
"There’s a little bit of NXIVM in there. Everyone says, 'Oh, that’s Scientology.' It’s actually a smoothie of a bunch of different ones," he said. "It mostly came about because we love writing for The Deep."
[ignvideo width=610 height=374 url=https://www.ign.com/videos/2020/10/03/why-dont-we-see-black-noirs-face-on-the-boys]
Kripke likened The Deep to "the Forrest Gump of Hollywood trends" in that he always seems to be caught up in something newsworthy. "In Season 1, he was embroiled in a #MeToo moment. And in Season 2, we’re like, 'All right — he should be like Allison Mack and go join a cult,'" said Kripke.
"And then in season three he’s gonna be like Leah Remini in fighting back against the cult," Kripke added, referencing Remini's series depicting her fight against Scientology. "He’s just going to keep blowing through these different Hollywood points. The idea of him trying to self-realize when he’s just such an idiot was entertaining to us."
[ignvideo width=610 height=374 url=https://www.ign.com/videos/2020/10/10/the-boys-season-ending-explained]
The Boys Season 3 will officially start filming in 2021, and will introduce us to Soldier Boy who is played by Supernatural star Jensen Ackles.
