Halo: The Master Chief Collection to Get a 4K/120FPS Xbox Series X/S Upgrade
On November 17, Halo: The Master Chief Collection will become fully optimized on Xbox Series X and Xbox Series S, and will feature 120FPS in Campaign and Multiplayer, Split-screen improvements, up to 4K on Series X, and more.
Announced by Xbox on Twitter, this update will be available for free to existing owners or those who are subscribed to Xbox Game Pass.
Aaron Greenberg, GM of Xbox Games Marketing at Microsoft, has also confirmed that Halo: The Master Chief Collection will also support "cross-gen play & adjustable FOV."
[ignvideo url="https://www.ign.com/videos/2019/12/13/halo-the-master-chief-collection-review-2019"]
These updates are another part of Halo: The Master Chief Collection's future that will also include crossplay between Xbox One and PC, a custom game browser, PC fileshare, per game graphics and audio options, mouse and keyboard support on Xbox One, and more.
Halo: The Master Chief Collection was released in 2014, and while it had a few issues at launch, it has been continuously supported and improved. In our re-review in 2019, we said, "overcoming its deserved reputation after a notorious launch, today the Halo Master Chief Collection is a polished, super-deluxe package of content that successfully links three generations of amazing Halo games together in a way that feels like it was made by and for people who care deeply about this legendary shooter franchise."
So, while Halo Infinite may have been delayed to 2021, Halo fans will still be able to have a next-gen experience with Master Chief until we are all able to go on his next adventure, which will also feature 120FPS in its free-to-play multiplayer.

Dexter Revival Will Serve as a ‘Second Finale’ for the Show
Dexter showrunner Clyde Phillips has confirmed that the upcoming revival will not rewrite the events of Season 8, but it will basically "start from scratch."
Speaking on The Hollywood Reporter's TV's Top 5 podcast, Phillips, who was the showrunner on the first four seasons of the original series, and will be returning as the showrunner on the new limited series, said that the revival is being positioned as a "second finale" for the show after fans were left disappointed by the many failings of Season 8.
[ignvideo url="https://www.ign.com/videos/2020/10/14/dexter-revived-for-limited-series-on-showtime-ign-now"]
"We basically do get to start from scratch," Phillips said. "We want this to not be Dexter Season 9. Ten years, or however many years, have passed by the time this will air, and the show will reflect that time passage. In so far as the ending of the show, this will have no resemblance to how the original finale was. It's a great opportunity to write a second finale for our show, and Showtime was very gracious about that."
Dexter's final season was widely criticised for having an ending that didn't satisfy the show's loyal fanbase. The last episode, titled Remember the Monsters?, saw Michael C. Hall's serial killer starting over as a lumberjack in the solitude of the Pacific Northwest. Many fans felt that this move was out of character, including the lead actor who said that he would've rather have seen Dexter die in the end.
[ignvideo url="https://www.ign.com/videos/2013/10/07/dexter-michael-c-hall-talks-dexters-finale-and-future"]
"I believe that [Michael C. Hall] was not completely satisfied with it, and this is an opportunity to make that right, but that's not why we're doing it," Phillips explained, referencing Hall's distaste for the show's ending. "We're doing this because there is such a hunger for Dexter out there. We're not undoing anything. We're not doing movie-magic. We're not going to betray the audience and say, 'Whoops, that was all a dream.'"
He underscored his approach to the limited series, saying, "what happened in the first eight years happened in the first eight years."
[widget path="global/article/imagegallery" parameters="albumSlug=the-best-and-worst-tv-revivals&captions=true"]
While plot specifics are being kept firmly under (plastic) wraps right now, Gary Levine, Showtime's President of Entertainment, made a statement in a press release for the upcoming 10-episode revival, in which he praised Phillips and Hall for finding a creative take that is "truly worthy of the brilliant, original series." Intrigued? Read our thoughts on how the revival could redeem the show's disappointing ending.

PT Can’t Be Redownloaded on PS5, But There’s Still Hope for Backwards Compatibility
PT will not be available to redownload on PS5, but Konami isn't ruling out that it will be playable on the next-gen console through other means.
Speaking to GamesRadar, Konami confirmed that those who own PT on PS4 will not be able to directly redownload the game on PS5, as it no longer exists on the PS Store. PT, an influential horror demo designed as a teaser for the cancelled Silent Hills, was removed from the Store in 2015 after director Hideo Kojima left Konami.
However, redownloading PS4 games on PS5 is only one method of transferring current-gen games to next-gen, with local wi-fi transfer and external storage both confirmed as means to move compatible games across generations. That leaves open the possibility that PT could still be playable (and preserved on a new generation of consoles), and it's a possibility Konami won't rule out right now.
[ignvideo url="https://www.ign.com/videos/how-pt-became-a-modern-urban-legend"]
Contacted for clarification by IGN, Konami explained that it can't currently confirm or deny whether the other methods will result in the game being playable. Theoretically, a straight data transfer should work, but it's currently unclear whether the game would play as intended on the new hardware.
That said, Sony has not included PT on the short list of games that definitively won't be backwards compatible on PS5. We've contacted Sony for comment on that, and whether PT could work using data transfer methods.
It's yet another step in the messy timeline of PT and Silent Hills - a timeline that's helped turn the game into a modern gaming urban legend.

Phasmophobia Devs Working on Fix for Hackers Spawning in Even More Jump Scares
Phasmophobia hackers are raiding lobbies, spawning in extra jump scares and often ruining the game, causing the developers to ask players to avoid modded lobbies as they work on a fix.
As reported by Gamespot, Kinetic Games posted an update to the game's official Discord server, noting that they are aware of the issues and are working hard to combat them. "We are aware that there has been a number of games that have been using third-party tools (cheats) to modify the game," the statement reads.
Problems caused by hackers seem to be many and varied at the moment, but many players have shown multiple ghosts appearing in the lobby area, jump scare death animations popping up unexpectedly, and players controlling ghost names and other generated parameters. Kinetic Games added that hacking changes include "changes such as increasing player limits, changing AI behaviour and simply increasing money or level. We cannot support this as it is causing a number of issues across the game, including the corruption of saved games and destabilizing the servers for other players." The developer has strongly advised players not to join modded lobbies, which are usually denoted by having more than four players in the browser, as well as unusual AI, multiple ghosts and teleportation in game. [ignvideo url="https://www.ign.com/videos/2020/10/20/phasmophobia-first-time-ghost-hunting-goes-terribly-wrong"] Apparently, users "have been claiming to be developers" with game-modifying tools, but the development team have clarified that they are not using such tools in the public branch. "We are currently looking into ways to combat this but until then please avoid joining such games so your files are not corrupted and the servers can function normally!" Shuri Actor Says the Thought of Black Panther 2 Without Chadwick Boseman Is ‘Strange’
Letitia Wright has emphasized how difficult it is to think about filming Black Panther 2 without the late Chadwick Boseman.
In an interview with Net-a-Porter, Wright, who starred as T'Challa's sister Shuri in the MCU movie, noted that it's not the right time to think about the Black Panther sequel, as the cast and crew are focused on "trying to find the light" after the tragic loss of Boseman, who passed away on August 28 after a secret four-year battle with colon cancer.
[ignvideo url="https://www.ign.com/videos/2018/02/17/black-panther-easter-eggs-references-trivia"]
"We're just still mourning Chad, so it's not something I even want to think about," Wright said when asked about reprising her role as Shuri, the Princess of Wakanda, for the Black Panther sequel. "The thought of doing it without him is kinda strange. We're just grieving at the moment, so it's trying to find the light in the midst of it."
Boseman portrayed T'Challa in four Marvel films, including Captain America: Civil War, Black Panther, Avengers: Infinity War, and Avengers: Endgame, and he would have reprised the role again in Black Panther 2, which was previously planned for a 2022 release, though right now it is difficult to know when or if this film will move forward.
[widget path="global/article/imagegallery" parameters="albumSlug=marvel-cinematic-universe-every-upcoming-movie-and-tv-show&captions=true"]
Boseman's sad and untimely passing sent shockwaves through Hollywood, including those in the MCU community, with many sharing their heartfelt condolences and fond memories of the late actor on social media. Black Panther director Ryan Coogler penned a touching tribute to the stalwart star of his film, saying he "had the warmest laugh in the world, and eyes that [saw] much beyond his years."
The ABC News special Chadwick Boseman: A Tribute for a King – A Special Edition was also released on Disney+, under the "extras" section of Marvel Studios' Black Panther film. The 40-minute special celebrates Boseman's life, legacy, career, and the cultural imprint he made on and off-screen, with many more tributes from celebrities, political figures, and fans across the world.

Vampire: The Masquerade – Bloodlines 2 Loses Another Senior Developer
Vampire: The Masquerade - Bloodlines 2 has lost another senior developer after its narrative lead Brian Mitsoda and creative director Ka'ai Cluney left the project earlier this year.
In a statement issued to PC Gamer, Paradox Interactive noted that Bloodlines 2's senior narrative designer Cara Ellison has left developer Hardsuit Labs. "We can confirm that Cara Ellison has decided to leave Hardsuit Labs and is no longer working on Vampire: The Masquerade - Bloodlines 2. Cara brought fresh ideas to the project and many of her contributions will be present in the game launching next year. We thank her for her work on Bloodlines 2 and wish her the best in all of her future endeavors."
[ignvideo url="https://www.ign.com/videos/2019/05/08/vampire-the-masquerade-bloodlines-2-tremere-clan-trailer"]
Many had surmised that Ellison had left the project after she removed references to Bloodlines 2 from her bio and announced on Twitter that she had started working for the Australian studio behind Armello, League of Geeks, as a senior narrative designer.
It's not clear whether Ellison has simply completed her work on the project and is moving onto new games, but another major creative departure like this projects uncertainty around the project, especially in light of the way Mistoda and Cluney were unexpectedly dropped from Bloodlines 2 earlier this year.
Shortly before the departures were announced, the game was also delayed into 2021. Hardsuit Labs and Paradox cited "the quality bar and ambitions we have set for ourselves" as reasons for the shift.
