Quibi Is Shutting Down After Six Months

Update: Quibi co-founders Jeffrey Katzenberg and Meg Whitman have issued an official statement and apology regarding the closure of the short-lived service. As for the existing properties owned by Quibi, they mentioned that “over the coming months we will be working hard to find buyers for these valuable assets who can leverage them to their full potential.” Original story follows. [poilib element="accentDivider"] After its launch just six months ago, bite-sized entertainment streaming service Quibi is shutting down. This follows news that Quibi was exploring a potential buyout or merger last month after raising nearly $2B in initial capital. As reported by The Wall Street Journal, Quibi is set to shutter the service according to a recent call to investors with co-founder Jeffrey Katzenberg. He and his counterpart Meg Whitman launched the service in April with hopes that it would become “the third generation of film narrative,” according to an interview with the Los Angeles Times. [widget path="global/article/imagegallery" parameters="albumSlug=quibis-movie-and-tv-shows-reviewed&captions=true"] Unfortunately, Quibi never seemed to take off like many expected it would. Initially, the app was downloaded by about 4.5M users with 1.6M subscribing to the service. However, over 90% of those subscribers left after their free 90-day trial. At launch, many users complained that its programming was only available to watch on mobile devices. Quibi begrudgingly reversed its original vision and made content available on TVs and other formats a few months later. Quibi was expected to launch 175 original programs in its first year, with just over half of those already available on the service. While the idea of watching 5-10 minute chapters of movies or series sounds great on paper, the unfortunate timing of its launch as the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic began spreading rapidly clearly had an impact on a service that was designed to thrive while people are on-the-go. [ignvideo url="https://www.ign.com/videos/2020/04/08/quibi-review-2020"] Are you still using Quibi? We’ve rounded up the best shows to watch (and those you can skip). Ghostbusters: Afterlife Pushed to June 2021

Sony has pushed Ghostbusters: Afterlife to next June and dated Don't Breathe 2 for 2021. Sony has adjusted the release date of Ghostbusters: Afterlife, a direct sequel to the original two Ghostbusters movies, to June 11, 2021, after an earlier delay from its original July 2020 release date to next March. In that same breath, Don't Breathe 2 was confirmed to be released on August 13, 2021. The first film, Don't Breathe, was released in 2016 as a critical and box office success, grossing $157 million worldwide on a $10 million budget. [widget path="global/article/imagegallery" parameters="albumSlug=ghostbusters-afterlife-trailer-breakdown&captions=true"] Interestingly, Ghostbusters: Afterlife will debut the second weekend of June 2021, the same weekend as the very first Ghostbusters movie, which opened June 8, 1984. Afterlife gained even more attention earlier this year when it was announced that original Ghosbuster, Bill Murray, was on board for the movie. You can check out the first and only trailer for Ghostbusters: Afterlife and then read about how it leaves open the possibility of sequels. As for Don't Breathe 2, Rodo Sayagues will make his directorial debut with the film. He also co-wrote the script with longtime collaborator Fede Álvarez, who directed the first film. The duo also wrote the first film's script. Sony didn't spill any additional details about this sequel but back in 2016, Álvarez said he doesn't want the sequel to be the same as the first. [ignvideo url="https://www.ign.com/videos/2016/08/24/dont-breathe-review"] "The challenge obviously is we just don't want to do the same movie again and just have 2 in it," Álvarez told IGN in 2016 when speaking about the possibility of a Don't Breathe sequel. "We'll feel so embarrassed if we do that. At first, our reaction when they told us was, 'no no no no no that's Hollywood, that's the devil pushing us to do something just because we can.' And then we had an idea that we got really excited about, we won't tell you what it is, it'll spoil the whole thing..." It seems we'll all find out exactly what that exciting idea is come August 13, 2021. If you haven't yet watched Don't Breathe, find out why we think it's great in our Don't Breathe review. How to Complete the Latest Fortnitemares Challenges

Set to run from October 21 to November 3, players will have the chance to jump into the popular limited-time Halloween event, Fortnitemares, and score themselves several free cosmetic items before the event ends. To kick off the release of Fortnitemares 2020, an all-new game mode has been introduced. This game mode will see all eliminated players across Solo, Duos, and Squads return to battle as a Shadow. Working with other eliminated teammates, players will receive access to otherworldly abilities that will allow them to possess the body of vehicles, phase through obstacles, and even perform a deadly combat swipe attack as players attempt to earn themselves a Nitemare Royale.

Fortnitemares Weapons, Rewards, and Afterlife Event

As usual, Fortnitemares brings with it a set of unique Halloween themed weapons that can be found randomly across the map. This year's weapons will include the Pumpkin Rocket Launcher, the Fiend Hunter Crossbow, a Witch Broom, and even Shadow Midas' Drum Gun, which can be found upon killing Midas at The Ruins. What's a Fortnitemares event without rewards? Throughout the event, players will have the chance to complete a set of challenges to unlock all-new rewards such as Midas' Shadow Wrap, the Smash O'-Lantern Pickaxe, Bobo Back Bling, Loading Screens, and more. fortnitemares-challenges-and-rewardsAlong with the announcement, Reggaeton Global ambassador and four-time Latin GRAMMY winner J Balvin is set to present Afterlife Party, an exclusive Halloween music event. Debuting a brand new song featuring Sech, Balvin will take to the main stage in Party Royale on October 31, at 6 pm PT and 9 pm ET. That's November 1 at 2 am BST and 11 am AEST. For even more information on the Fortnitemares event, check out our guide below to unlock unique Halloween themed rewards!

How to Complete Every Fortnitemare Challenge

At present, there are only three Fortnitemare challenges, so be sure to check back as more unlock every three days until November 3. The following Fortnitemare challenges are currently available to complete: fortnitemares-pumpkin-rocket-launcher-fiend-hunter-crossbow-witch-broom-While the following challenges have not been 100% officially confirmed, the popular Fortnite Leaker, FireMonkey believes that we can expect to see the following challenges over the coming days: For more information on how to eat a Candy, becoming a Shadow, finding a Witch Broom, eliminating Shadow Midas, and even more, we have you covered in our detailed Fortnitemare Challenge guides below.

How to Find and Eat Candy

One of the first challenges to complete in the Fortnitemares event is to find and eat 25 pieces of candy. As easy as it may sound, many have been left wondering exactly where you can find these pieces of candy. Thankfully, candy is relatively easy to find, as it will be available at the majority of houses across the Fortnite map. In order to find candy, simply land outside of a house and make your way to the front door. As you near the door, you will often find two buckets of candy. Using your Pickaxe or Weapon, destroy the buckets to receive several pieces of candy. Fortnite CandyAs far as we are aware, there are currently 5 different candies to loot, with each candy offering a different effect when eaten.
  • Hop Drop: Will provide a low gravity effect.
  • Thermal Taffy: Will provide you to see enemies in thermal.
  • Pepper Ming: Will provide a large speed boost.
  • Candy Corn: A current, we are unsure of the effects of Candy Corn.
  • Jelly Bean: A current, we are unsure of the effects of the Jelly Bean.
Furthermore, each of these five candies has the ability to provide a small increase to your health when eaten.

How to Become a Shadow

Arguably the simplest challenge on the list, you will have the ability to become a Shadow by simply being eliminated during the match. Upon dying, you'll return as a Shadow and can begin the process of raining havoc upon those that are still alive. Fortnite Witch Shack

How to Find a Witches Broom and Travel 100 Meters (Every Known Location)

Scattered across the map, players will find Witch Shacks. These shacks will contain Witch Brooms, which can be found just outside of the shack inside of a large barrel. If you're struggling to find a Witch Shack, consider checking out the locations that we have marked on our Broom Locations map below to find every known Witch Shack currently in Fortnitemares. Fortnitemares Broom LocationsOnce you have located the Witch Broom, interact with it to begin flying through the air. Similar to the Silver Surfer board, the Witch Broom will have a 20 second cool down.

How to Detect Players as a Shadow

When playing as a Shadow, you’ll have four otherworldly abilities that include:
  • Slash: A ghastly combo swipe attack.
  • Dash: Phase through obstacles.
  • Scream: Mark nearby survivors for Shadows in Range.
  • Shadow Jump: A high, floaty leap into the air.
For those playing on Xbox One or PS4, simply use the Scream ability by pressing L1 on PS4 and LB on Xbox One to scan the area for nearby enemies. Shadow Abilities

Eliminate Shadow Midas

Claiming what was once The Agency, Shadow Midas and his group of Henchmen now call The Ruins home. In order to eliminate Shadow Midas, make your way towards The Ruins, which can be found in the middle of the map. Once you reach the building, head inside and continue to the bottom floor, where you will most likely find Midas. Shadow Midas has plenty of health, so you'll want to use the crates, pillars, or building materials to block his incoming attacks. During our experience, we found that Midas was quite simple to eliminate, especially when using powerful weapons such as the Combat Shotgun, Assault Rifle, and SMG. For those wanting to get into the Halloween spirit, you'll even find that a Pumpkin Launcher will do the job just fine. Along with receiving XP for completing the challenge, you will also obtain Shadow Midas' Drum Gun. Fortnite_20201021202246As this challenge has been rumored to become available in the coming days, The Ruins will undoubtedly become an incredibly populated area, making the task of eliminating Shadow Midas quite challenging. If you find that you are struggling with the battle, try practicing in the Battle Labs Game Mode. [poilib element="accentDivider"]

Jared Leto Will Play The Joker Again in Zack Snyder’s Justice League

Zack Snyder has been given the green light to proceed with the Snyder Cut of Justice League and Jared Leto will be onboard reprising his Joker role from Suicide Squad. The Hollywood Reporter has learned that Leto will play his version of The Joker, who first appeared in 2016’s Suicide Squad, in Zack Snyder's Justice League. Leto will be a part of the Snyder Cut reshoots for the planned, four-episode event for HBO Max. [ignvideo url="https://www.ign.com/videos/2020/08/22/justice-league-the-snyder-cut-trailer"] Zack Snyder left the production of the Justice League movie before it was completed due to a personal tragedy. After a version of the film, completed by Joss Whedon, was released to middling-to-poor reviews, fans began petitioning Warner Bros. to release Snyder's original version of the Justice League. That request was answered earlier this year when WB announced that Zack Snyder's Justice League would be released as an HBO Max exclusive in 2021. Details about what will be in Zack Snyder's Justice League have trickled out and are some times conflicting. Although originally reported that the new Justice League cut will not have reshoots with the original cast, it was later reported that Henry Cavill, Ben Affleck, Gal Gadot, and Ray Fisher will return in October for reshoots. [widget path="global/article/imagegallery" parameters="albumSlug=justice-league-snyder-cut-all-the-known-differences-from-the-theatrical-version&captions=true"] Other potential changes in the Snyder Cut of Justice League includes visual effect changes, cut lines, and apparently no footage filmed by Joss Whedon. The Snyder Cut will cost HBO $30 million to produce. For more on everything that's different from Zack Snyder's Justice League, check out our extensive breakdown of differences here. Cohen on Giuliani’s Borat 2 Denial: “He Did What He Did”

WARNING! Major SPOILERS ahead for Borat Subsequent Moviefilm! This article has been updated with Rudy Giuliani and Borat's responses. For more, read our spoiler-free review of Borat 2. Update 2, 10/23/20: Actor-producer Sacha Baron Cohen and his co-star Mara Bakalova appeared on Good Morning America on Friday where Cohen, this time not in character, refuted Rudy Giuliani's account of the now infamous scene in Borat 2. "“I would say that if the president’s lawyer found what he did there appropriate behavior then heaven knows what he’s doing with other female journalists in hotel rooms," Cohen said, before going on to explain how they built a hideaway for him to be able to monitor what transpired between Bakalova and Giuliani. Update 10/23/2020: Borat himself has now responded to Rudy Giuliani's rebuttal of the footage. Sacha Baron Cohen, in character as Borat Sagdiyev, appeared in a video on Twitter to 'defend America's mayor', which you can watch below: [poilib element="accentDivider"] Rudy Giuliani, the former New York City mayor and the current personal attorney of President Donald Trump, is now embroiled in a personal scandal after being caught in a compromising position in the new film Borat 2, which is being released on Amazon on October 23. Actress Maria Bakalova, in her feature film debut, plays Borat's daughter Tutar - an aspiring journalist who, in a pivotal scene near the end of the film, interviews Giuliani about the Trump Administration's COVID-19 response. Borat star Sacha Baron Cohen, in disguise, appears as Tutar's sound operator. Shot this past July, "Tutar" and Giuliani's interview takes place in a New York City hotel room. The interview begins with them exchanging pleasantries and they are seen making physical contact during the interview. Giuliani is flirtatious with Tutar and is seen coughing throughout the segment. [ignvideo width=610 height=374 url=https://www.ign.com/videos/2020/10/20/borat-2-official-pregnancy-center-clip] After the interview, Tutar/Bakalova and Giuliani enter an adjacent bedroom that has a concealed camera in it. Shortly thereafter Giuliani is seen leaning back on the bed, undoing his trousers, reaching into his pants, and appearing to touch himself. It's then that Cohen's Borat, dressed in a bikini, reenters the scene and interrupts Giuliani, yelling, "She’s 15. She’s too old for you.” (Bakalova is not underage but her character Tutar is supposed to be 15 years-old.) Giuliani then flees the hotel room and is seen interacting with his team outside. At no point during this scene do we see Tutar/Bakalova make any sexual contact with Giuliani but she does remove his microphone in the bedroom. Rudy Giuliani took to Twitter on Wednesday to address his appearance in Borat 2, claiming at no point did he act "inappropriate" and alleging that the footage was manipulated. "The Borat video is a complete fabrication. I was tucking in my shirt after taking off the recording equipment," Giuliani wrote. "At no time before, during, or after the interview was I ever inappropriate. If Sacha Baron Cohen implies otherwise he is a stone-cold liar." Giuliani went on to claim that he's the victim of a political smear attack in "an effort to blunt my relentless exposure of the criminality and depravity of Joe Biden and his entire family." The former New York City mayor called the NYPD after the faux interview but reportedly didn't immediately recognize the prankster as Cohen. As it was reported by the New York Post at the time, Giuliani made no mention of the sexual nature of how the scene ended, only relaying that Cohen interrupted the interview and that he thought he was being scammed. Giuliani did say at the time that he was a fan of the first Borat film. “This guy comes running in, wearing a crazy, what I would say was a pink transgender outfit ... I only later realized it must have been Sacha Baron Cohen. I thought about all the people he previously fooled and I felt good about myself because he didn’t get me,” Giuliani told the Post in July, adding, “I am a fan of some of his movies, ‘Borat’ in particular, because I’ve been to Kazakhstan. [Adopting a Borat accent, Guiliani repeats a famous line from the movie:] ‘She is my sister. She is number four prostitute in all of Kazakhstan.’ That was pretty funny.” As part of the movie's plot, Borat initially needs to gift his daughter Tutar to Vice President Mike Pence on behalf of the leader of Kazakhstan. When that fails he then tries to gift her to Giuliani. By the time the Giuliani scene arrives, though, Borat has had a change of heart and wants to stop the gifting even though it may cost him his life once he returns home to Kazakhstan. [ignvideo url="https://www.ign.com/videos/2020/10/21/borat-subsequent-moviefilm-review"] Borat Subsequent Moviefilm debuts exclusively on Amazon Prime Video on October 23.

Marvel’s Spider-Man Miles Morales: New Crimson Cowl Suit Revealed

With just a few more weeks until Marvel's Spider-Man: Miles Morales is released on PS5 and PS4, Insomniac Games has revealed yet another new spider-suit for Miles dubbed the Crimson Cowl Suit. Since the debut of Marvel's Spider-Man: Miles Morales, we've been given quite a few glimpses at Miles' main spidey suit and his recently-revealed T.R.A.C.K. suit. Insomniac revealed the new Crimson Cowl suit today on Twitter and it's one of Miles' most fashionable suits yet. You can check it out in the tweet below. As you can see in the tweet above, the Crimson Cowl suit is being teased as a two-piece suit that makes Miles look ready to hit in the gym. It features a first for this universe of spider-men in the form of a hooded suit and it gives us some serious Spider-Gwen vibes. As you'd expect, the suit is mostly crimson red and black, which is the running color theme for Miles. Below is another look at the suit: Marvel's Spider-Man Miles Morales Crimson Cowl Suit As for when we can expect to obtain this suit in the game or even how to obtain the suit, it's anybody's guess. If it's anything like Marvel's Spider-Man on PlayStation 4, the Crimson Cowl suit is likely earned after either completing a specific story mission or by leveling up Miles. We'll know the answer soon when Marvel's Spider-Man: Miles Morales launches on PS4 and PS5 on November 12. Catch up on everything Miles Morales before the game launches next month by watching the official Marvel's Spider-Man: Miles Morales trailer recap and then watch the latest gameplay trailer. Pokemon Sword & Shield’s Legendary Birds Will Roam Like Gold & Silver’s Legendary Dogs

The Galarian legendary birds from Pokemon Sword & Shield's Crown Tundra expansion will roam like Pokemon Gold & Silver's legendary dogs. A Game Informer preview of the new DLC explains that some of the footage shown to press concerned a quest called 'A Legendary Tree of a Legendary Three' in which Galarian Moltres, Zapdos and Articuno fight and then scatter across the Crown Tundra, to be found by players as they explore the region. "They realize you're watching, and they disperse to different parts of the Crown Tundra," the preview reads. Following the trail of the new legendary trio, players will be able to track, chase and eventually battle the new Pokemon forms, in a fashion that will be familiar to fans of the Pokemon Gold and Silver games. "The Pokemon Company likens the methods of encountering the Legendary trio to how you encountered the Legendary dogs in the Johto region," the preview adds. [ignvideo url="https://www.ign.com/videos/2020/09/29/pokemon-sword-and-shield-crown-tundra-expansion-pass-trailer"] The idea of roaming Pokemon was introduced in the Johto region with the legendary dogs Suicune, Entei and Raikou and has persisted throughout the franchise. The preview explains a particular situation where a Pokemon master sneaks up on Galarian Zapdos but is caught, causing it to flee, forcing the player to catch up to it on their bike, with a battle waiting at the end of the process for the most persistent players. For more information on the Crown Tundra DLC, check out our own preview of the expansion, which we think provides solid opportunities to build competitive teams. The Crown Tundra DLC will arrive on October 22 as part of Pokemon Sword & Shield's Expansion Pass. NBA 2K21 on Xbox Series and PS5 to Add ‘Next-Gen AI’ and New MyPlayer Options

The next-gen versions of NBA 2K21 on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X will feature next-gen AI and new MyPlayer customization. The next-gen versions of NBA 2K21 are set to launch on November 10 and November 12 on Xbox Series X and PS5, respectively, and 2K has released a slew of details today about AI and MyPlayer customization. In terms of customization, 2K has reworked how stats are presented, how badges work, and how the Takeover system applies to players in the game. [widget path="global/article/imagegallery" parameters="albumSlug=every-ign-nba-2k-review-ever&captions=true"] "The next-gen player builder is all about customization," a blog post from 2K reads. "We've taken in a lot of feedback from the community over the past few years as we've evolved the MyPLAYER building experience. One thing that we heard loud and clear from you is that you want more options." 2K says that preset skill breakdown pie charts are a thing of the past and that players will instead be given control over setting each individual rating to the cap they prefer. There will still be restrictions based on in-game player vitals so players won't be able to max out every skill, but 2K says there's more control than before to make your character exactly who you want them to be. Badges have been reworked for next-gen NBA 2K21 as well. Many fan-favorites will return, but 2K says that most have undergone significant functionality changes. [widget path="global/article/imagegallery" parameters="albumSlug=nba-2k21-screenshots&captions=true"] "There are also some new ones, some revived ones, and some removed ones," according to the blog post. "The badge point system and equipping process is similar to what you've grown accustomed to: perform well in the various categories (Finishing, Shooting, Playmaking, Defense/Rebounding) in any mode to earn badge points, and then apply those points to whatever badges you want within those related categories." You can read an even more detailed breakdown about badges in the blog post for additional information about the changes to this system. The last aspect of the new next-gen MyPlayer customization, Takeover, has been "taken to the next level for next gen," according to 2K. Instead of limiting players to eight general archetype-based takeovers, 2K says it's broken up those eight takeovers into 24 more-specific abilities. The blog post has a list of all 24 abilities if you're interested in what those are. On the AI side of things, 2K says next-gen represented an opportunity to reset a lot of areas of gameplay. "This was especially true when it came to artificial intelligence," according to 2K. "Some of these items are immediately noticeable and some are more nuanced for the hardcore X's and O's hoop heads. But one thing's for certain, NBA 2K21 continues to lead the way in accurately modeling its respective sport better than anyone else out there. That's something we pride ourselves in and know that the true students of the game appreciate about the franchise." [ignvideo url="https://www.ign.com/videos/2020/08/17/nba-2k21-review"] Speaking to AI defense, an update to on-ball, off-ball, and auto-switching logic has been made and 2K says players can expect to see fewer cases of AI calling for a switch without a screen. The Adaptive Coaching Engine also has the ability to recognize and adapt to different types of off-ball actions now and CPU defenders have improved logic. The Hedge defensive system has been overhauled as well and players can now call for help on defense by holding L1/LB instead of just calling for a double team. In terms of AI offense, 2K has implemented "next gen game planning" that includes new offensive game plans so that players can pick a single option and get straight into the action. Double team counter intelligence has also been improved as has the end-of-game logic. Favorite plays return and can now be used to set up a group of plays for starting units and bench units. The play and freelance offensive flow has been improved, AI players have been improved to prevent out-of-bounds positioning, and new pick-and-roll spacing has been implemented with plans for continued improvement to the system in the future. Check out our current-gen NBA 2K21 review while waiting for the next-gen versions to launch next month and then read about how the PS5's DualSense will simulate how tired players are in-game. Borderlands 3 Designer’s Cut New Skill Trees Revealed

2K has revealed two new Skill Trees coming as part of Borderlands 3’s Designer’s Cut, which is coming as part of the game’s second season pass this November. The two new skill trees are for Vault Hunters Amara and FL4K. The first, for Amara, is the Enlightened Force skill tree, which allows you to build Amara around cryo elemental effects and freezing enemies. The tree’s passives help maximise elemental damage and show enemies down, while the Phaseflare action skill summons an orb of elemental energy that can be controlled and directed towards enemies. [ignvideo url="https://www.ign.com/videos/2019/08/08/borderlands-3-fl4k-character-trailer-the-hunt"] For FL4K, the Designer’s Cut adds the Trapper skill tree, which provides shield and critical hit bonuses for the character’s pet. The tree’s action skill is Gravity Snare, which periodically lifts enemies into the air, interrupts their attacks, and then slams them into the ground for damage. Both skill trees are now available to view and customise on the Borderlands 3 website - check out the Amara and FL4K ones here - which allows you to see all the branches and what individual skills can provide. [widget path="global/article/imagegallery" parameters="albumSlug=top-10-borderlands-dlc-of-all-time&captions=true"] These skill trees are part of the Designer’s Cut, which releases on November 10, and can be bought individually or as part of Season Pass 2, which also includes the Director’s Cut DLC that will release in Spring 2021. Designer’s Cut also includes Arms Race, a new mode that will be revealed on October 22.
