PS5: Sony Has Sent Out the Invites to Preorder Directly From PlayStation

Sony has started sending out the invitations to those who signed up for a chance to preorder a PS5 directly from PlayStation, letting them know that they can secure one PlayStation 5 or PlayStation 5 Digital Edition beginning this Friday, September 18. IGN's Wesley LeBlanc received one of these golden ticket e-mails, and the instructions say that the recipients are given a unique URL that is "not meant to be shared with anyone else." Beginning on Friday, September 18 at 10am PT, clicking on the URL will take them to a waiting room. Once its "your turn, you'll get access to complete your PS5 Console Pre-Order Reservation!" PlayStation e-mail Sony warns that if a URL is shared and others attempt to use it "you may be locked out of the order system." Furthermore, the invite is only valid through "9:59am PT, Saturday 9/19, or while supplies last." Last month, Sony opened up a PS5 Direct Pre-Orders page on PlayStation's website, and it asked those interested to sign up for a chance to "be one of the first to pre-order your PS5 console from PlayStation." It didn't give much more details on how the lucky few would be chosen besides stating that its "selection is based on previous interests and PlayStation activities." [ignvideo url="https://www.ign.com/videos/2020/09/16/god-of-war-ragnarok-teaser-trailer"] Following the PlayStation 5 Showcase event that revealed the PS5's price and release date, Final Fantasy XVI, the sequel to 2018's God of War, and Hogwarts Legacy, Sony began sending out invites by e-mail. For those who haven't received an invitation, Sony said pre-orders would go live on September 17, yet many retailers have already opened up their preorders. We will keep our Where to Preorder PS5 guide up-to-date with everything you need to know to secure your next-gen console! PS5 and PS5 Digital Edition Retail Boxes Revealed

The retail boxes for both the PS5 and PS5 Digital Edition have been revealed, and they give a glimpse of what two of the hottest items this holiday season will look like on store shelves and/or on your front door. The retail boxes were shown on the PS5 and PS5 Digitial Edition's Amazon listings, and they look very similar. The PS5's box is mostly white, and shows the console, the DualSense, and that this new next-gen system is capable of 8K, 4K/120 FPS, and HDR. 71QmyHaLyOL._SL1500_ The PS5 Digital Edition, on the other hand, will arrive in a mostly black box. The main differences are the lack of disc drive on the console, and the words "DISC-FREE Console" on the top right. 71w8Jjp+gqL._SL1500_ These boxes follow the unveiling of Xbox Series X and Xbox Series S' retail boxes and the PlayStation 5 Showcase event that revealed the price and release date of the PS5, Final Fantasy XVI, the sequel to 2018's God of War, Hogwarts Legacy and so much more. For those interested in preordering the PS5 or PS5 Digital Edition, Sony has said that preorders would go live later today at select retailers. However, Walmart, Amazon, Gamestop, Target, and Best Buy have already opened them up early. PS5 Will Be Backwards Compatible with ’99 Percent’ of PS4 Games

Sony Interactive Entertainment CEO and President Jim Ryan has stated that "99 percent" of the "thousands" of PlayStation 4 games its tested will be playable on PlayStation 5 via backwards compatibility. Speaking to The Washington Post, Ryan also discussed Sony's new PS Plus Collection, which will offer "18 PS4 first-party titles for download to subscribers to the PlayStation online service." Ryan continued to say that he "expects up to four years for the PlayStation 4's expected life span." [ignvideo url="https://www.ign.com/videos/god-of-war-ragnarok-teaser-trailer"] "The PS4 community will continue to be incredibly important to us for three or four years," Ryan said. "Many will transition to PS5, we hope if we do our job well, but tens of millions will still be engaged with the PS4." This commitment to PS4 was echoed with Sony's announcement that Spider-Man: Miles Morales, Sackboy a Big Adventure, and Horizon Forbidden West will also launch on PS4. However, this decision does seem to go against Ryan's previous statement that he was not interested in making PS4 versions of PS5 games. [widget path="global/article/imagegallery" parameters="albumSlug=every-game-and-announcement-featured-in-the-playstation-5-showcase-event&captions=true"] This interview followed the PlayStation 5 Showcase event that revealed the price and release date of the PS5, Final Fantasy XVI, a sequel to 2018's God of War, Hogwarts Legacy, and so much more. Fisher’s Claims Reportedly Started After Being Offered Small Cameo in The Flash

A new report claims Cyborg actor Ray Fisher didn't begin his campaign against Warner Bros. over working on the Justice League reshoots until after he was offered only a small cameo in The Flash, the upcoming movie starring Fisher's Justice League co-stars Ezra Miller and Ben Affleck as well as Michael Keaton. The Wrap, citing two anonymous insiders with purported knowledge of the situation, reports that Warner Bros. has not heard back from Fisher's team since he was offered a small role in The Flash in June. (The inclusion of Cyborg in the long-gestating Flash movie was first revealed by Justice League executive producer Deborah Snyder in 2016.) Fisher's reps at Paradigm Agency and Management 360 issued the following statement to The Wrap, which points out that their response doesn't address the size of the role, the current state of negotiations, or the timing of it all:

“Mr. Fisher is, and has been, under contract with WB Pictures since 2014. ... Per the terms of that pre-negotiated contract, the option to include Mr. Fisher as the character of Victor Stone (aka Cyborg) has always rested in the hands in WB Pictures.”

Fisher had been attached to a solo Cyborg movie, which was first announced back in 2014 for a 2020 release, but which The Wrap claims was stopped in its development back in 2016. The Wrap also claims Warner Bros. didn't respond to their request for comment. Ray Fisher responded to The Wrap's report on Twitter without refuting any of its specifics except to refer to it as "a trash article": Fisher's first tweet claiming he wanted to retract his past praise for Justice League reshoots director Joss Whedon came on June 29, which The Wrap claims came after Warners had offered Fisher the cameo in The Flash. [widget path="global/article/imagegallery" parameters="albumSlug=the-flash-movies-possible-dceu-cameos&captions=true"] Then, in July, Fisher stepped up his campaign against Warners and Whedon alleging a toxic and hostile working environment on Whedon's set and that former DC Films bosses Geoff Johns and Jon Berg enabled it. (Berg denies this.) While Fisher was initially encouraging in his social media about the news in August that Warner Bros. was launching an investigation into the actor's claims, by September he claimed DC Films president Walter Hamada was covering for Geoff Johns and impeding the investigation. Warner Bros. issued a denial, claiming Fisher has refused to cooperate with the investigation. Fisher denied this and questioned the independence of the investigation led by an outside firm hired by WarnerMedia. Since then, Justice League co-star Jason Momoa has come out in support of Ray Fisher's campaign against Warner Bros., notably the only Justice League cast member to do so. Barring any pandemic-related delays, The Flash is aiming to begin production in March 2021 under the direction of Andy Muschietti (the It films). Both Michael Keaton and Ben Affleck will reprise their respective roles as Batman for the film, the latter announcement of which Fisher recently blasted as a public relations stunt on the part of Warner Bros. to distract from the investigation. Producer Barbara Muschietti revealed at DC FanDome that The Flash will be a soft reboot of the DCEU.
