Official Xbox Series X and S 1TB Expandable Storage Drive Costs $220

Microsoft has revealed the price of its proprietary expanded storage cards for Xbox Series X and S, which will start at $219.99 for 1TB of extra space. As spotted by The Verge, a listing for the 1TB Game Drive for Xbox Series X and Series S appeared on Best Buy's website, confirming the pricing. According to the product overview, this is "the only available expansion card that replicates the Xbox Velocity Architecture - providing faster load times, richer environments, and more immersive gameplay." As we've heard previously, it will only be used for next-gen games. With the Xbox Series S sporting a slimmer 512GB SSD, the expandable drive may have been seen as a means of boosting the console's usefulness. That may be less of an appealing option now, given that the price of the extra storage brings that console up to around $520, more than the $499 cost of the more powerful Series X console. The Verge reports that Microsoft has said that, while this drive is currently the only one to interface correctly with Xbox Velocity architecture, other manufacturers may release their own expandable storage at a later date – that could potentially help to drive down prices. The 1 TB Game Drive will allow players to "seamlessly" play Xbox Series X games from the drive "without sacrificing graphics, latency, load times, or framerates." The drive has been developed in partnership with Seagate and will come with a three-year warranty. [ignvideo url="https://www.ign.com/videos/2020/04/07/the-technology-behind-xbox-series-x"] External 3.1+ USB hard drives will also work with the consoles as standard, but players will only be able to run Xbox One, 360 and OG Xbox from the external drives. According to Microsoft spokesperson Larry Hyrb, "Games optimized for Xbox Series X & Velocity Architecture need to be run from the internal SSD or the Expandable Storage Drive." The Xbox Series X and S will launch on November 10, 2020 worldwide. We've already got our hands on an Xbox Series X, so stay tuned for more preview coverage as we approach the console's release date. The Sims 4 Will Add More Skin Tones and Hair Options

The Sims will expand its palette of skin tones in an update coming to PC on October 6 and consoles on November 10. The update will start with an update on fixing the existing skin tones in October and in December The Sims will add “at least” a hundred new skin tone swatches with an emphasis on darker skin. In a new blog, The Sims development team first confirmed that there are a blotchy artifact and ashy effect on its current palette of darker skin tones on high res computers. This will be addressed in the upcoming October update, along with an update to the two base game hairstyles. [ignvideo url="https://www.ign.com/videos/2017/11/20/the-sims-4-xbox-one-and-playstation-4-review"] Then in December, The Sims will expand its skin tone offerings by adding cool, neutral, and warm tones. There will also be a slider on all the swatches that will let you modify a selected tone to be lighter or darker for further customization. Similarly, makeup in Creat-A-Sim will be further customizable to offer a new level of control over a Sims’ appearance. The move follows a variety of other games adding deeper levels of character customization to better reflect different skint ones for players. World of Warcraft announced major additions to customization with both skin tones and facial structures for its characters. For more, check out IGN’s review of The Sims 4. The Haunting of Bly Manor, Troy, and Everything Else New to Netflix in October

Netflix is dropping some classic films and fan-favorite returning series to its lineup for October 2020. To kick things off, Netflix is debuting The Haunting of Bly Manor on October 9. Bly Manor is the second season of Mike Flanagan's "The Haunting..." anthology series which began with The Haunting of Hill House back in 2019. Here's how Netflix describes The Haunting of Bly Manor: "After an au pair’s tragic death, Henry Wingrave (Henry Thomas) hires a young American nanny (Victoria Pedretti) to care for his orphaned niece and nephew (Amelie Bea Smith, Benjamin Evan Ainsworth) who reside at Bly Manor with the estate’s chef Owen (Rahul Kohli), groundskeeper Jamie (Amelia Eve) and housekeeper, Mrs. Grose (T’Nia Miller). But all is not as it seems at the manor, and centuries of dark secrets of love and loss are waiting to be unearthed in this chilling gothic romance. At Bly Manor, dead doesn’t mean gone." You can check out the terrifying trailer in the video below: [ignvideo url="https://www.ign.com/videos/the-haunting-of-bly-manor-official-trailer"] On the movie front, Netflix is dropping an original film on October 16, titled The Trial of the Chicago 7, starring Sacha Baron Cohen and Eddie Redmayne. And on October 15, you can stream the DC animated film The Killing Joke. Zack Snyder to Shoot New Justice League Scenes in October

In what is surely a unique case in the world of superhero movies, Justice League is headed for reshoots nearly three years after it debuted in theaters. According to The Hollywood Reporter, Zack Snyder is gearing up for a weeklong shoot in October 2020 as work continues on the Snyder Cut of Justice League. THR reports that stars Henry Cavill, Ben Affleck, Gal Gadot, and Ray Fisher are all participating in the reshoots. With production lasting only a week, it's unlikely these reshoots will dramatically alter the plot or structure of Snyder's version of Justice League. Rather, it's more likely these shots will be used to flesh out existing scenes, add new lines of dialogue and help Snyder transform his movie into a four-part limited series. [ignvideo url="https://www.ign.com/videos/2020/08/22/justice-league-the-snyder-cut-trailer"] As THR points out, Fisher's involvement is somewhat surprising given the current tensions between the actor and Warner Bros. Fisher made headlines in June after angrily retracting statements he made during the promotion of Justice League in 2017 and accusing Snyder's replacement Joss Whedon of creating a hostile and abusive environment on-set. Fisher has also accused former executives Geoff Johns and Jon Berg of enabling Whedon's abusive behavior. WarnerMedia has since opened an internal investigation, though Fisher has criticized the company's handling of that investigation and denied the studio's claim he's been refusing to cooperate. Costar Jason Momoa recently voiced his support for Fisher, which THR reports has caused some internal strife as production looms on Aquaman 2. The tension between Fisher and Warners may continue to ripple through the DC movie universe, especially as fans wait to see if Fisher will reprise his role as Cyborg in 2022's The Flash. Both Affleck and Michael Keaton are expected to reprise their respective Batman roles in that movie. The long-rumored Snyder Cut was finally confirmed in May 2020, with Snyder revealing it'll debut exclusively on HBO Max in 2021. The first Snyder Cut trailer debuted at DC FanDome in August. In other DC news, HBO Max has ordered a series centered around Peacemaker, John Cena's character in James Gunn's The Suicide Squad. The spinoff is the latest in a string of high-profile new DC shows coming to the streaming service, alongside JJ Abrams' Justice League DarkGreg Berlanti's Green Lantern Corps, and Matt Reeves' Batman prequel series Gotham PD. Starfield Received a ‘Major Engine Rewrite’ for Next-Gen Consoles

Larry Hryb’s latest episode of the Major Nelson podcast brought together Xbox boss Phil Spencer and Bethesda’s Todd Howard and Pete Hines in the first interview since Xbox announced it acquired Bethesda. And while the respective company heads still kept a lot of details close to the chest, there were some details about the upcoming Starfield and what the union means for the two companies. While Hryb primarily asked his panel of guests about the blockbuster deal where Xbox acquired all of ZeniMax Media — which includes Bethesda and studios like Arkane — Hryb did have a surprise question about the upcoming Starfield for Todd Howard. Hryb asked Howard if there is any new information the Bethesda game director could share about Starfield, the studio’s long-in-development space RPG. While Howard refrained from sharing too much, he did reveal that the project will be a “major engine rewrite” which will utilize the next-gen systems. “The people all know me, I like to wait as long as possible to show stuff so uh, we’re closer to show stuff than we were at the beginning of the conversation,” Howard joked. [ignvideo url="https://www.ign.com/videos/2018/06/11/starfield-teaser-trailer-e3-2018"] Bethesda's Creation Engine was the focus of some controversy back in 2018 when Howard revealed its next-gen games like Starfield and Elder Scrolls 6 would be using the studio's proprietary game development tool. Though engines aren't static and are upgraded with new features and tools regularly. Other topics that were discussed include how the deal between Xbox and ZeniMax even happened, but Xbox boss Phil Spencer reiterated that it was all based on the long relationship between the two companies. “For us there’s this long-standing relationship of what does it mean for [Bethesda] to build what they’re trying to build on top of our platform that makes, in many instances, us feel like one team,” Spencer said. [widget path="global/article/imagegallery" parameters="albumSlug=confirmed-xbox-series-x-games&captions=true"] When asked if Spencer had any closing thoughts, he responded, “At a fundamental level our goal with every move that we make at Team Xbox is to enable you to play the games you want to play with the people you want to play with and where you want to play them.” Spencer added, “I just want people to know that these kinds of partnerships, these kinds of steps whether it’s a technology move or a partnership move with a studio like Bethesda, are all just about furthering our vision there. Of allowing more people to play, giving creators the best place to build the most amazing things they can build, and find the largest audience they can.” For more on the Xbox ZeniMax acquisition, check out IGN’s top takeaways from the deal, and our special Unlocked discussing the developments. No Plans for Marvel’s Spider-Man Remastered to Be a Standalone PS5 Game

Marvel's Spider-Man: Miles Morales will have an ultimate edition on PS5 that includes a remastered version of PS4's Marvel's Spider-Man, but there are currently no plans to offer the remaster as a standalone game for PS5 players. In a statement provided to IGN by a Sony representative, the company confirmed that the only ways to get Marvel's Spider-Man Remastered are by buying the Miles Morales Ultimate Edition for PS5. Additionally, if you buy Miles Morales for PS4, you can play the PS5 version of that game at no additional cost, and you can purchase an additional "paid-upgrade" to gain access to Spider-Man Remastered. [ignvideo url="https://www.ign.com/videos/spider-man-miles-morales-gameplay-trailer"] And while players will have the chance to play Marvel's Spider-Man on PS5 via backward compatibility, existing owners of the game on PS4 cannot upgrade or buy the remastered edition separately. Sony's full statement reads:
“Marvel’s Spider-Man: Remastered is an enhanced version of Marvel’s Spider-Man, and is included as part of Marvel’s Spider-Man: Miles Morales Ultimate Edition for the PlayStation 5. In addition, players who purchase Marvel’s Spider-Man: Miles Morales on PlayStation 4 can upgrade* at no additional cost to the PS5 version of Marvel's Spider-Man: Miles Morales and can take advantage of a paid-upgrade to download Marvel’s Spider-Man: Remastered. There are no plans currently to offer Marvel's-Spider-Man: Remastered as a standalone. Players with a copy of Marvel’s Spider-Man for PS4 can purchase Marvel’s Spider-Man: Miles Morales Ultimate Edition to experience Marvel’s Spider-Man: Remastered on PS5.  Marvel’s Spider-Man for PS4 also will be backwards compatible on PS5. *Owners of the Marvel’s Spider-Man: Miles Morales PS4 game disc can access this offer by inserting the disc into their PS5 console. PS4 game disc owners who buy the PS5 Digital Edition disc-free console will not be able to access this offer.”
[widget path="global/article/imagegallery" parameters="albumSlug=every-game-and-announcement-featured-in-the-playstation-5-showcase-event&captions=true"] This seems to line up with the remaster being treated, essentially, as a new game, especially as we know it will include its own PlayStation trophy list, and feature new costumes, updated textures, facial animations, character models, more cars and pedestrians, and DualSense support. Developer Insomniac Games also recently confirmed that Spider-Man: Remastered would not have a physical release, nor would saves carry over to the remaster, and we also recently learned the file size for Spider-Man: Miles Morales on PS5. Earlier this month, Sony confirmed Spider-Man: Miles Morales will launch with the PS5 on November 12, and will also be available for PS4. Disney Postpones Black Widow to 2021, Pushes More Films Including MCU

Disney has pushed nearly all of its 2020 film releases to 2021 with the exception of Free Guy and Pixar's Soul. The release date changes affect the first wave of openings for films in Phase 4 of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, including the expected delay of Black Widow from November to next May. Black Widow's new May 7, 2021 date is almost exactly year after its original May 1, 2020 release date. The COVID-19 pandemic first prompted Disney to push Black Widow to November 6th and, well, here we are. It was reported in March, via an unnamed Marvel insider, that "pushing Black Widow affects nothing on the MCU timeline." Here is the full list of Disney release date changes:
  • DEATH ON THE NILE (20th) previously dated on 10/23/20 moves to 12/18/20
  • THE EMPTY MAN (20th) previously dated on 12/4/20 moves to 10/23/20
  • BLACK WIDOW (Disney) previously dated on 11/6/20 moves to 5/7/21
  • ETERNALS (Disney) previously dated on 2/12/21 moves to 11/5/21
  • SHANG CHI AND THE LEGEND OF THE TEN RINGS (Disney) previously dated on 5/7/21 moves to 7/9/21
  • UNTITLED DISNEY EVENT FILM (Disney) previously dated on 7/9/21 is removed from schedule
  • DEEP WATER (20th) previously dated on 11/13/20 moves to 8/13/21
  • UNTITLED 20TH CENTURY (20th) previously dated on 8/13/21 is removed from schedule
  • WEST SIDE STORY (20th) previously dated on 12/18/20 moves to 12/10/21
  • THE KING’S MAN (20th) previously dated on 2/26/21 moves to 2/12/21
Steven Spielberg's remake of West Side Story has also been pushed almost exactly a year, from a holiday 2020 release to a holiday 2021 slot. Disney didn't explain why it's keeping the Ryan Reynolds video game action-comedy Free Guy and Pixar's Soul on their late 2020 release schedule. There had been speculation that Soul might be shifted to Disney+ instead of theatrical following Mulan and the early release of Pixar's Onward on the streaming service. Game of Thrones: Lady Stoneheart’s Absence From the Series Explained

Game of Thrones showrunners David Benioff and DB Weiss have opened up about their decision to leave Lady Stoneheart out of the HBO series. Entertainment Weekly reports that Benioff and Weiss shared the reasons behind the fan-favourite character's absence from the show in the upcoming book Fire Cannot Kill a Dragon, a definitive oral history of the blockbuster series that answers some of the biggest questions that fans of George R.R. Martin's A Song of Ice and Fire saga have had about the small-screen adaptation. [ignvideo url="https://www.ign.com/videos/2020/06/23/george-r-r-martin-gives-an-update-on-the-winds-of-winter"] While the Game of Thrones' duo claimed that there had never really been "much debate" about whether to include Lady Stoneheart, they both shared some very definitive reasons for her exclusion from the show, as they admitted that their insider knowledge of Martin's pre-planned storylines played a role in their decision to cut the character from the series. "Part of the reason we didn't want to put it in had to do with things coming up in George's books that we don't want to spoil [by discussing them]," Benioff explained, without divulging any details about the events that may have halted her appearance. On the subject of storylines, Benioff and Weiss explained how upcoming events in the show's scripts also had an impact on which direction to take with individual characters, as they had already established ahead of time what was coming up in the later seasons and wanted to ensure that other events didn't weaken future storylines. "We knew we had Jon Snow's resurrection coming up," Benioff said, speaking about the show's various character arcs. "Too many resurrections start to diminish the impact of characters' dying. We wanted to keep our powder dry for that." [widget path="global/article/imagegallery" parameters="albumSlug=every-ign-game-of-thrones-review-so-far&captions=true"] In their final reason for omitting Lady Stoneheart, the Game of Thrones showrunners referenced the traumatic Red Wedding scene, as they explained how the moments that played out in that episode provided the most powerful ending for Catelyn, so to then "bring her back as a zombie who doesn't speak felt like diminishing returns." Of course, fans of the books had expected to see the character appear in Game of Thrones' Season 4 finale but instead, the top-rated episode delivered a ton of other violent twists and turns. For more about the show's dragons, duels, and dads, take a look back at the 11 best moments from Season 4 or watch our five-minute roundup of all the action.
