Why The Witcher: Nightmare of the Wolf Is an Anime, Not Live-Action

Beau DeMayo, one of the writers behind the Netflix original series The Witcher, has opened up about the creative team's decision to develop Nightmare of the Wolf as an anime movie, saying its a story that suits the medium. In an interview with ComicBook.com, DeMayo, who started out as an assistant and executive at Disney, working in animation, stressed the importance of finding the best means of telling a story on screen, as he explained why they had chosen to make Nightmare of the Wolf in an animated format rather than live-action. [ignvideo url="https://www.ign.com/videos/2020/01/31/vesemir-to-appear-in-the-witcher-animated-film-by-netflix-ign-daily-fix"] "I was aware when Lauren [Hissrich] came and asked me to write it, what we could do in animation that you cannot do in live-action," he said. "There is not necessarily always parity between those two mediums. There are things that you can animate in an animated form that will look so amazing, so badass, that if you did it in action, in live-action, it's just going to look goofy or it's just going to register as a little false to the human eye." DeMayo added how there is "a grace and an art form to animation, and especially anime, that allows a different flavour," explaining how it provides a new realm to tell their story, charting the origins of Vesemir, aka Geralt of Rivia's mentor and father figure, as he teased, "what is the type of story that we could tell that we could never tell in our live-action scope?" [ignvideo url="https://www.ign.com/videos/2020/01/30/the-witcher-nightmare-of-the-wolf-movie-will-be-a-vesemir-origin-story-netflix-confirms-ign-news"] He also admitted that the creators of the prequel movie were presented with some "exciting" storytelling possibilities after they made the decision to step away from the live-action medium. He even shared more details about what to expect from the script, saying there will be "something with magic and monsters and adventure and romance." "And the script itself, there are certain things it takes advantage of in terms of animation that only animation can do," he revealed. "I think that's what's the most exciting thing that I'm waiting for fans to see... it is a story we could not have told in live-action in any way, shape or form. At least not with an incredible burden on production, I will say that." [widget path="global/article/imagegallery" parameters="albumSlug=netflixs-the-witcher-cast-vs-video-game-characters&captions=true"] Studio Mir, the renowned Korean animation studio behind The Legend of Korra and Voltron: Legendary Defender, are currently hard at work on The Witcher: Nightmare of the Wolf, though it is unknown whether the new movie will be released before or after the return of Geralt, Yennefer, and Ciri in Season 2 of The Witcher in 2021. E3 Officially Canceled Over Coronavirus Concerns

E3 has been officially canceled over concerns about the novel coronavirus, or COVID-19. This marks the biggest impact on a video game show this year as a result of public health concerns regarding the COVID-19 outbreak. The Entertainment Software Association is now exploring the possibility of an 'online experience' to replace the show. A statement from the ESA reads: "After careful consultation with our member companies regarding the health and safety of everyone in our industry--our fans, our employees, our exhibitors and our longtime E3 partners--we have made the difficult decision to cancel E3 2020, scheduled for June 9-11 in Los Angeles." "Following increased and overwhelming concerns about the COVID-19 virus, we felt this was the best way to proceed during such an unprecedented global situation. We are very disappointed that we are unable to hold this event for our fans and supporters.  But we know it’s the right decision based on the information we have today." Both attendees and exhibitors will be contacted about "full refunds". The ESA also confirmed that it was "exploring options with our members to coordinate an online experience to showcase industry announcements and news in June 2020." [widget path="global/article/imagegallery" parameters="albumSlug=all-the-big-games-coming-in-2020&captions=true"] The statement ends with the ESA saying, "We thank everyone who shared their views on reimagining E3 this year.  We look forward to bringing you E3 2021 as a reimagined event that brings fans, media and the industry together in a showcase that celebrates the global video game industry." IGN heard from a number of sources yesterday that the Entertainment Software Association (ESA) would officially be announcing the cancellation. However, companies like Devolver Digital publicly tweeted to followers that they should cancel plans for E3 prior to the official announcement, implying the news was imminent. E3 follows the Game Developers Conference, Taipei Game Show, and South by Southwest as another major show that's been impacted by COVID-19, and is a blow to the video game industry in an important year. The ESA previously stated that E3 would be progressing at "full speed" despite a state of emergency enacted by the city of Los Angeles, California. Other game conferences this year have also been postponed or canceled due to concerns over COVID-19. In the lead-up to this year's Game Developers Conference, attendees like Sony, Microsoft, Facebook, and more announced they would be dropping out of the show to protect their employees. The organizers would later announce the whole show would be postponed. A similar chain of events happened to the annual music and arts festival SXSW, which saw a string of dropouts before the event was ultimately shut down by the city of Austin, Texas. Tom Holland to Reprise His Role as Spider-Man in Disneyland’s New Spidey Ride

Disneyland's upcoming Marvel-themed expansion, Avengers Campus, won't open its doors at Disney's California Adventure Park until July 18, 2020 but IGN was among a group of press that got an early preview of the secretive new land on March 6, and we've got all the intel on the new rides, superheroes, attractions, food, and merchandise you can expect when the Avengers open their headquarters to the world in a few months. Disney also confirmed that Tom Holland will reprise his role as Spider-Man for the upcoming WEB Slingers: A Spider-Man Adventure ride. Much like Star Wars: Galaxy's Edge, Avengers Campus aims to fully immerse you in the world of your favorite heroes, but, as Walt Disney Imagineering's Portfolio Creative Executive Scot Drake points out, one key difference with the Marvel Cinematic Universe is that "we don't have to transport you to Arendelle or to a galaxy far, far away. These stories are here and now ... they're in our world." [widget path="global/article/imagegallery" parameters="albumSlug=avengers-campus-concept-art&captions=true"] Just like the MCU itself, the story for Avengers Campus starts with Tony Stark (we'll get to how he's still around in a minute), who has retrofitted one of his father's old Stark Industries sites as the base for the Avengers Campus. This is a place where heroes from "across time and space" (a very important observation) can assemble to help train a new generation of heroes, each bringing their own specific expertise and aesthetic to a number of distinct areas - or "addresses" within the Campus. Right now, there's not much to see at Avengers Campus except scaffolding, empty buildings, and plenty of rubble, but Disney's Imagineers are deep into the process of transforming California Adventure's former A Bug's Land into a high-tech home for Earth's Mightiest Heroes ahead of the Campus' July opening, with areas anchored by Iron Man, Spider-Man, Doctor Strange, Ant-Man and the Wasp, and the Guardians of the Galaxy. Check out the concept art for how Avengers Campus will look on opening day in the gallery above, and read on for our breakdown of everything you can expect from Marvel's biggest theme park footprint yet. (If you're wondering about the name, you should know that Marvel loves its acronyms - C.A.M.P.U.S. stands for Centralized Assembly Mobilized to Prepare, Unite and Safeguard, obviously.)

Avengers Campus Attractions and Rides

WEB Slingers: A Spider-Man Adventure

The first new ride at Avengers Campus will be an all-ages Spider-Man attraction (with no height requirement) that will utilize state-of-the-art motion-tracking technology to allow riders to sling webs from their wrists just like Spidey in an interactive environment that includes a 3D component. The ride takes place at a facility called WEB - the Worldwide Engineering Brigade - where, according to Walt Disney Imagineering's Executive Creative Director Brent Strong, "young inventors like Peter Parker have been brought together by Tony Stark to help create technologies to allow everyday people like us to have powers just like the Avengers." WEB SLINGERS: A Spider-Man Adventure in Avengers Campus at Disney California Adventure Park While visiting an open house presentation at WEB, guests will find themselves embarking on a mission with Spider-Man to help subdue some rogue Spider-Bots created by the young scientists before they cause chaos around the Campus. Here's how Disney describes the layout of the ride, which was still being built during our tour: "A blend of physical, fully dimensional sets and virtual environments will take recruits on this interactive escapade, which includes animation, moving props and special effects." Strong compares the Spider-Man ride to Disney's Ratatouille attraction in its blending of physical and virtual worlds, combined with Toy Story Midway Mania's gamified interactivity, but notes that WEB Slingers will take things to another level by removing the interface of a rider needing to use an object like a laser gun to interact with the world around them. "A lot of those other experiences, it's the device that has the power. We wanted you to feel like you had the power," he says. "And so early on, our goal was 'how do we make the interface disappear?' There's a ton of work that's gone into creating that, but the end result is just... magic."

Guardians of the Galaxy: Mission Breakout

Guardians of the Galaxy: Mission Breakout has been operating at Disney's California Adventure since 2017, when it replaced The Twilight Zone: Tower of Terror ride, but when Avengers Campus opens, it will integrate the fan-favorite attraction into the story of the new land in a way that the Imagineers hope will be seamless. The in-park story for the ride is tied to the habits of The Collector, Taneleer Tivan (Benicio del Toro), and his penchant for gathering mementos - both living creatures and inanimate oddities - from across the galaxy. Now that Avengers Campus is open, The Collector has brought his collection right to their doorstep, and according to story development lead Jillian Pagan, the literal impact of his arrival will be obvious as soon as you arrive: "You will see the disruption that Tivan's fortress has caused to the Campus. As you go through the different addresses of the Campus, you'll see that his fortress has kind of melted the old tunnels that you're going through." Cracked pavements and warped metal will be the least of your worries, though, when it becomes clear what the Collector is really up to. [poilib element="quoteBox" parameters="excerpt=%22This%20is%20going%20to%20be%20the%20largest%20assembly%20of%20these%20heroes%20anyplace%2C%20anytime%2C%20anywhere.%22%20-%20Dan%20Fields%2C%20Executive%20Creative%20Director%20of%20Disney%20Parks%20Live%20Entertainment"] "There will be some tension of, [the Avengers are] still checking him out, they're still taking a look at what he's doing, but he essentially came and said, 'Hey, you're trying to train the next generation of heroes. What better way to prepare them for the cosmos and what's out there than my cosmic collection?'" Pagan previews. "Meanwhile, we know The Collector, we know his style. Is he potentially here to capture some heroes, say the Guardians of the Galaxy, say The Avengers, say potentially some of the recruits that are wandering into his fortress? Is he scamming us? That's always been the underlying story with him, and now we can fully manifest that." [ignvideo url="https://www.ign.com/videos/2017/05/25/the-disneyland-guardians-of-the-galaxy-ride-is-awesome"]

While Pagan says there currently aren't any plans to tweak the previously filmed footage of del Toro or the rest of the Guardians cast inside the ride, she notes, "in the current pre-show, if you listen to Tivan's speech he says, 'I'm inviting you in today to see my most recent acquisitions, The Guardians of the Galaxy.' So it's clear that he maybe just snatched them from the Campus and is still being a little seedy about it, and that's why now Rocket's breaking out and we're helping him, and it's all finally clicking into place."

Avengers E-Ticket Attraction

While the other, previously announced new ride at Avengers Campus won't be available at launch and is planned for "Phase 2" of the land, what little we know about the reportedly "massive" Avengers E-ticket attraction is certainly intriguing. It will be located at the Avengers Headquarters section of the Campus, which will boast a lifesize replica of the Quinjet on the roof.

Avengers Campus at Disney California Adventure Park

In the story of the new Avengers ride, according to Disney, "you will step onboard a Quinjet and fly alongside the Avengers in an epic adventure to Wakanda and beyond. You will team up alongside the Avengers in a battle to save our world against one of the most powerful villains they have ever faced. Imagineers are hard at work conceiving an all-new innovative ride system to put you in the middle of this action." Drake offered a brief preview of the Avengers attraction at New York Comic Con in 2019: “For us, an E-ticket is our highest level of thrill and immersion and ride systems all coming together, and we’re delivering on The Avengers, of course. And The Avengers deserves big, epic innovation, storytelling, and putting us right in the middle of the action. We all want to be a part of that team, and in this attraction, we’re going to deliver on that.” At last year's D23 Expo, Drake also described the ride system as “something that we’ve never seen before," declining to compare it to something like Disney World's Avatar Flight of Passage ride or any other attraction that currently exists. Avengers Campus Hero Encounters

In addition to the rides, new recruits at Avengers Campus will be able to meet (and possibly train alongside) some of their favorite characters from the MCU, both heroes and villains, at the new Disney California Adventure Park expansion. Dan Fields, Executive Creative Director of Disney Parks Live Entertainment, says that Avengers Campus will differ from other parts of the park because the characters will be "roaming" throughout the day, adding an air of spontaneity to any interactions similar to what fans might've encountered at Galaxy's Edge. "You're used to, 'there's a show time and I see them on that stage. Or I see them in that parade, or I have a meet and greet with them, for these hours.' There are those elements that will be the normalized scheduled shows, but the texture of the roaming... I defy you to find a time in the day where you walk through there and don't see a few characters out and about," he says. "Also, you're going to be seeing different characters bump into each other in ways that we've never seen before, heroes you haven't seen together... This is going to be the largest assembly of these heroes anyplace, anytime, anywhere. Avengers Campus is literally going to be teeming with heroes." Some of the key character experiences you can expect in Avengers Campus include:

Iron Man

We know what you're thinking - isn't Tony Stark dead? As Pagan explains, "at the front of the land [we'll] have a plaque that outlines the mission of the Campus, and on that we say that heroes have assembled from across time and space here to train you," which means that, although all of the characters we encounter will have knowledge of the events of the movies, the Tony Stark who's showboating at Avengers Campus is obviously from a different timeline or universe than the Tony Stark who sacrificed himself in Avengers: Endgame (along with this version of Black Widow and a peppy young Captain America). So this Tony is alive and well and ready to show off his Mark 80 Iron Man armor for photo ops outside Avengers Headquarters. But if you have questions about the multiverse, there's someone else you should talk to...

Doctor Strange

The Sorcerer Supreme can be found at the Sanctum, an outdoor oasis where Doctor Strange will train recruits in the mystic arts. According to Pagan, "Doctor Strange will know the history of the Sanctum, and part of that history is that there's this mystical Orb of Cagliostro, and within that is contained this crazy time vortex... and as you interact with Doctor Strange he can explain all that, but it can also provide us - possibly literally - a portal into, if there's some timey-wimey-ness [happening in the land], well we have this timey-wimey portal over here. Doctor Strange can help you explain the mysteries of the multiverse." Doctor Strange in Avengers Campus at Disney California Adventure Park

Spider-Man

Not only will recruits be able to team up with Spider-Man (and his pal Peter Parker) over at WEB, you'll also be able to see the wall-crawler performing flips and stunts as he swings over the roof of the WEB building, up to 65 feet in the air, before coming down to greet visitors for photos. While the Imagineers were cagey about Spidey's gravity-defying abilities, fans of The Imagineering Story docuseries on Disney+ might've caught a glimpse of an impressive "stuntronic" animatronic robot capable of performing incredible acrobatics in the season finale, and, well, we'll just let you theorize while you're watching the video below... [ignvideo url="https://www.ign.com/videos/2020/03/11/spider-man-at-avengers-campus-disney-california-adventure-park"]

Black Panther and the Dora Milaje

If you think you've got what it takes to defend Wakanda, recruits will also have the chance to train with Black Panther's elite bodyguards, the Dora Milaje, led by General Okoye, as part of an interactive exercise. Other characters who will be roaming the land and interacting with guests - and each other - include:
  • Black Widow
  • Ant-Man and the Wasp
  • Captain Marvel
  • Captain America
  • Thor and Loki
  • The Guardians of the Galaxy
  • Taskmaster
And it wouldn't be the Avengers without a little action thrown into the mix - guests will also catch a glimpse of Black Widow, Captain America, and Black Panther facing off against Taskmaster and other foes at Avengers Headquarters throughout the day, with fight choreography designed by the stunt team who worked on the upcoming Black Widow movie. See a selection of the heroes you'll be able to meet at Avengers Campus in the gallery below. Avengers Campus Food and Restaurants

Disney fans have come to expect immersive dining experiences at the parks, so it's no surprise that Avengers Campus has a few high-concept food and beverage options, many of which are direct nods to the history of the MCU.

Pym Test Kitchen

The Pym Test Kitchen is the land's primary dining location, playing on the idea of Ant-Man's "Pym Particles" to present food that looks as if it's been shrunk or grown to an unexpected size. The design of the restaurant is based on the quantum tunnel that has been featured in the films, and the ceiling will showcase a conveyor belt that seems to turn a regular-sized pretzel into a massive one. Pagan explained some of the thinking behind using Ant-Man and The Wasp as the faces of the dining experience: "We brainstormed all sorts of different crazy potential ideas for the restaurant, but the one that stuck ... was what if Ant-Man and Wasp were using their technology to create new innovations in food science, and feed more people by literally growing the food? And then that gives the guests an important role, because now you're coming in and helping them with their foods research." Pym Test Kitchen at Avengers Campus at Disney California Adventure Park Some menu highlights include a supersized "Pym-ini" filled with salami, ham, and provolone, which can be cut into bitesize portions or bought whole, like a pizza, for family-style sharing; a giant, sharable candy bar filled with caramel, nougat, peanuts, chocolate brownie and dark chocolate; and the Impossible Spoonful, featuring mini rigatoni and ditalini pastas with plant-based meatballs and cheese. Fans of The Incredible Hulk will also recognize a new soda option on tap - Pingo Doce, a sweet (and distinctly green) drink that probably won't make you Hulk out.

Pym Tasting Lab

Over at the Pym Tasting Lab, recruits in need of adult libations will find a variety of cocktails and craft beer options. And if you've ever wanted to drink beer like Thor (no, we don't mean smashing mugs on the floor), the Tasting Lab employs a reverse draft system where the glass will fill from the bottom up, as if by magic - although we're guessing Doctor Strange probably won't refill it for you for free. thor beer gif

The cocktails at the Tasting Lab include a mix of flavors and textures, including the Molecular Meltdown, which combines Garage Brewing Marshmallow Milk Stout with vanilla ice cream and topped with crunchy mini marshmallows, and the Particle Fizz, an Endless Summer Hard Seltzer with cherry popping pearls.

The Shawarma Palace Cart

Fans of the Avengers know how much the team loves shawarma, so it's no surprise that they invited the Shawarma Palace gang to launch a second location at Avengers Campus to pay homage to their memorable post-Battle of New York snack. The food cart will feature a savory wrap with chicken shawarma and garlic sauce, along with a plant-based falafel version.

Terran Treats

Apparently curated by Taneleer Tivan, this snack cart will be located outside Guardians of the Galaxy: Mission Breakout and will feature several sweet treats that can be eaten on the go, including the misleadingly colored Sweet Spiral Rations (which look like churros, but might not taste like them), and the Cosmic Cream Orb, a puff pastry filled with raspberry cheesecake mousse. Check out a gallery of some of the food and drink options at Avengers Campus below: [widget path="global/article/imagegallery" parameters="albumSlug=avengers-campus-food-and-drink-preview&captions=true"]

Avengers Campus Merchandise and Toys

If you intend to go all-in on your recruitment, you can load up with clothing and toys at a couple of different stores:

WEB Suppliers

Located by the WEB Slingers ride, the WEB store will, unsurprisingly, sell WEB-themed merch and clothing, including STEM-inspired kits that can be used to create your own webs, Web-shooter accessories, and a selection of Funkos and other toys. Guests can also buy smaller, remote-controlled versions of the Spider-Bots featured in the WEB Slingers ride, which can be used to battle against a friend, and upgraded using special add-ons that allow the Spider-Bots to take on the abilities of other heroes like Iron Man, Black Panther, Black Widow, Ant-Man, and The Wasp. Unlike the Droid Depot at Galaxy's Edge, there won't be an area to customize the Bots in the store, as the add-ons will come pre-packaged.

Campus Supply Pod

Over at the Campus Supply Pod, recruits can find Avengers Campus gear, including hoodies, t-shirts, drinkware, and accessories. Check out a selection of the merch that will be available at Avengers Campus at opening in the gallery below: [widget path="global/article/imagegallery" parameters="albumSlug=avengers-campus-merchandise-and-toys&captions=true"] We'll have more from Avengers Campus in the coming months, but for now, hit the comments to tell us which part of the new Disney California Adventure Park expansion sounds most exciting to you, and check out our coverage of Millennium Falcon: Smugglers Run and Rise of the Resistance at Star Wars: Galaxy's Edge, now open at Disney World and Disneyland.

Judge Rejects Nintendo’s Request to Dismiss Joy-Con Drift Lawsuit

A federal judge has denied Nintendo's request to dismiss the class action lawsuit over the drift problem found with the Nintendo Switch Joy-Cons.

Top Class Actions reports that US district judge Thomas S. Zilly rejected Nintendo's dismissal request but did agree to have the case handled in arbitration for now. That means the issue will be resolved outside of the courts by a neutral party known as an arbitrator.

However, Judge Zilly has only put the case on hold until the arbitrator comes to a decision. Once a decision has been made, the case could still return to the courts. Nintendo and the customers trying to sue the company have to report the outcome of the arbitration to the courts 14 days after a decision has been made, or by December 31, 2020 - whichever comes first.

[ignvideo url="https://www.ign.com/videos/2018/09/27/nintendo-switch-review-2018"]

The class-action lawsuit was filed against Nintendo by Ryan Diaz back in September 2019. He claimed that Nintendo sold the Switch's Joy-Cons as if they didn't have any defects while knowing that they had a drift problem. He says that Nintendo then charged customers to repair Joy-Cons with the drift issue.

Drift, in this case, refers to the joysticks on the Joy-Cons registering movements despite there being none, causing cursors and reticles to drift across the screen. Diaz claims that Nintendo must have known about the drift in some Joy-Cons as he and other customers contacted the company about it online to get it repaired.

He decided to try to sue Nintendo for the financial damage this defect has caused customers and demanded that Nintendo fix Joy-Cons with the drifting issue for free. Nintendo has since decided to repair Joy-Cons with drift for free and has refunded customers that were previously charged to have it repaired.

[widget path="global/article/imagegallery" parameters="albumSlug=11-other-nintendo-switch-lite-color-options-wed-love-to-see&captions=true"]

IGN held a survey last year to get an idea of how many Switch players had experienced the Joy-Con drift issue. In total, 9774 IGN readers out of 26,000 said they had, which is about 38%, not an insignificant percentage. If you're experiencing Joy-Con drift then there's a guide on how to get it fixed.

The Last of Us TV Show Production Won’t Start Until The Last of Us Part 2 Is Out

The Last of Us TV show being produced by HBO won't go into full production until after Naughty Dog has finished developing The Last of Us Part 2.

Craig Mazin revealed this on the latest episode of his weekly podcast Scriptnotes now that the news is out that he's co-writing The Last of Us TV show's adaptation. Production can't start properly until The Last of Us creative director and co-writer of the TV adaptation Neil Druckmann is freed from his duties on the game's sequel.

[ignvideo url="https://www.ign.com/videos/2020/03/05/the-last-of-us-tv-show-in-the-works-at-hbo"]

"We can't start on it right away because they're still finishing up the second game, but pretty soon," Mazin said. "We've been talking about it for months and coming up with little plans and things. But we're going to dig in in full, full earnest pretty soon, just as soon as they wrap up their final work on the sequel. So hopefully more exciting news to come on that front because it's something we're both motivated to see on TV."

Mazin also revealed that he was introduced to Druckmann via a mutual friend, Shannon Woodward, who is Elsie Hughes in HBO's TV show Westworld. Mazin also talked about how he insisted The Last of Us should be made into a TV show rather than a movie, which it was being turned into previously.

"It was going to be a movie for a long time. Neil was working on it as a movie for one of Sony's divisions, and my feeling was that you can't make a movie out of this thing, it has to be a show, it needs length," Mazin said.

"It is about the development of a relationship over the course of a long journey, so it has to be to be a television show and that's that. That's the way I see it. Happily, Neil agreed and HBO was delighted, and so here we are."

[widget path="global/article/imagegallery" parameters="legacyId=20029358&captions=true"]

After the announcement of The Last of Us TV show last week, Mazin responded to a question from a fan on Twitter, promising that main character Ellie will still be gay in the show, just as she is in the games.

There aren't any further details yet, but we can tell you why The Last of Us will be perfect as an HBO series - it helps that it's being co-written by the writer/director of the award-winning Chernobyl series.

Doom Eternal on Google Stadia Won’t Be True 4K

Doom Eternal won't support true 4K on Google Stadia as was promised when it was announced for the platform a year ago.

Bethesda, the game's publisher, released new technical specifications for each platform that Doom Eternal is coming to (after leaking them earlier this week). Revealed is that the Google Stadia version of Doom Eternal "will run at 1080p @60 FPS on HD displays and up-sample to 2160p from 1800p @60 FPS on 4K displays."

[ignvideo url="https://www.ign.com/videos/2020/02/24/doom-eternal-the-final-preview"]

For it to be true 4K the game would have to run with a horizontal display resolution of approximately 4,000 pixels, usually 4096 x 2160. Instead, it will run at 3840 x 2160, which means it doesn't run at true 4K.

Upsampling the 2160p display resolution simply means that extra pixels are calculated to make it up to around 4K. However, this is an artificial means of hitting 4K and is sometimes criticised for not having as sharp an image as true 4K.

When Google Stadia was announced at GDC on March 19, 2020, one of the big selling points that was pushed was that it would run Doom Eternal at 4K. Doom Eternal's co-director Marty Stratton even took to the stage at the time to say the game would run "true 4K." That's now been confirmed to not be the case, at least not at launch.

It's worth pointing out that the Xbox One X and PlayStation 4 Pro versions of Doom Eternal upsample in exactly the same way - though, those versions were not promised to run true 4K. The PC version's "Ultra-Nightmare" specs, the highest setting, also have 2160p at 60 fps.

When IGN went hands-on with Doom Eternal on Stadia back in June 2019, id Software said it hadn't tried demoing the first-person shooter with 4K at that point, but that it would be soon, and would announce details about the 4K support at a later date.

[widget path="global/article/imagegallery" parameters="albumSlug=doom-eternal-january-2019-screenshots&captions=true"]

With this latest news it seems that id Software hasn't been able to get a true 4K version of Doom Eternal working with Stadia yet. It's not the first developer that has run into this issue.

When Stadia launched in November 2019, controversy arose around Destiny 2 and Red Dead Redemption 2 for not supporting true 4K on Google's game streaming platform. Despite Google saying its launch games would. In response, Google said that it's down to developers to get their games running true 4K on Stadia.

Doom Eternal comes out for PC, PS4, Xbox One, and Google Stadia on March 20, 2020. A Nintendo Switch version will be released later in 2020. If you pre-order Doom Eternal then you'll get Doom 64 as a free bonus.

Disney’s Live-Action Peter Pan & Wendy Casts Its Two Lead Characters

Disney has reportedly tapped Alexander Molony and Ever Anderson to star as Peter and Wendy in their upcoming live-action adaptation of Peter Pan, directed by David Lowery. Variety reports that Molony will be adding a feather to his cap, both literally and figuratively, starring as the eternally youthful Lost Boys leader while newcomer Anderson will also be embarking on the fantastical adventure, as she portrays the eldest of the Darling children. [ignvideo url="https://www.ign.com/videos/2018/05/29/peter-pan-exclusive-clip-from-65th-anniversary-edition"] Molony and Anderson are expected to soar on to the big screen in their respective roles, as Variety's sources have also claimed that the studio has now set its sights on a theatrical release, rather than a debut on Disney+ alongside 2019's Lady and the Tramp remake. The two young stars are both early on in their careers, with only a handful of acting credits attached to their names. Molony is best known for his recurring roles on TV shows The Reluctant Landlord and Claude, while Anderson, the daughter of Milla Jovovich, previously played the Red Queen in Resident Evil: The Final Chapter, though she is also set to appear as a young Natasha Romanoff in Disney's Black Widow, released on May 1, 2020. [widget path="global/article/imagegallery" parameters="albumSlug=every-upcoming-disney-live-action-remake&captions=true"] Peter Pan & Wendy will be directed by David Lowery and produced by Jim Whitaker, with a script co-written by Lowery and Toby Halbrooks. Lowery and Halbrooks previously worked together on Disney's live-action remake of Pete's Dragon. The Peter Pan adaptation is another new addition to Disney's growing list of revamped renditions of titles from its classic animated portfolio, with the studio's latest live-action endeavour, Mulan, projected to have a domestic debut of $85 million. Disney's live-action rendition of the beloved fable has received early praise for its action, maturity, and beauty, with some members of the press even claiming that it is the best live-action adaptation of a Disney classic yet. Dracula Film Reportedly In the Works Following The Invisible Man’s Success

Following the success of The Invisible Man, Universal is reportedly working on securing and developing a new Dracula film that will be directed by Destroyer's Karyn Kusama and produced by Jason Blum's Blumhouse Productions. As reported by THR, The Invisible Man's #1 opening and earnings of $98.3 million on a budget of only $7 million have caused Universal to once again turn its focus to its Monsterverse. However, this time, the "new batch of films will be stand-alone, moderately budgeted efforts, rather than big swings within an interconnected movie universe." Universal's first attempt at its Monsterverse did not go as planned, as 2017's The Mummy only earned $406 million worldwide on a budget of $125 million. Tom Cruise was the star of the film and was set to be followed by such actors/actresses as Johnny Depp, Angelina Jolie, and Javier Bardem in other monster films. [ignvideo url="https://www.ign.com/videos/2020/02/25/the-invisible-man-review"] It is important to note that Universal hasn't officially been brought on for this film, as Dracula is in the public domain, but it would be surprising if it did not end up being part of this project as "Blumhouse has a first-look deal with the studio and Universal isn't about to let one of its iconic monsters escape the fold." Sources claim that the Dracula film will take place in modern times and will have its script written by Matt Manfredi and Phil Hay, who both worked with Kusama multiple times. This news follows another report that states James Wan will also be producing a currently untitled legacy monster film for Universal. [widget path="global/article/imagegallery" parameters="albumSlug=the-25-best-horror-movies&captions=true"] Universal is also reportedly working with such filmmakers as Paul Feig, Elizabeth Banks, and John Krasinski to pitch multiple takes on a single legacy monster. However, one agent familiar with the studio's plans warns that "they have multiple irons in the fire, but not all will become real." While you wait to see the future of Universal's monsters, be sure to check out our review of both Netflix's Dracula and The Invisible Man and take a look at what makes The Invisible Man both timely and terrifying. Netflix has unveiled the official trailer for its upcoming cyberpunk anime film, Altered Carbon: Resleeved, which is based on the characters from Richard K. Morgan's novels. Set to debut on Thursday, March 19, Altered Carbon: Resleeved is set on the planet Latimer, where "Takeshi Kovacs must protect a tattooist while investigating the death of a Yakuza boss alongside a no-nonsense CTAC," according to a synopsis from Netflix. Netflix has released two versions of the trailer so far: an English dubbed version via the streamer's Twitter page, and a subbed version on YouTube. The film is co-written by Dai Satô, who previously worked on popular titles like Cowboy Bebop and Resident Evil: Revelations 2.
