One Ship from Disney World’s Star Wars Ride Made It Into Episode IX

Disney World's new Star Wars: Rise of the Resistance theme park ride, which opened in Florida this week, has one major aim: to make guests feel immersed in their own Star Wars adventure. From the life-sized AT-ATs you encounter through the computer-generated space battle you witness unfold outside the windows of a First Order Star Destroyer, bringing the world of Star Wars to life in the most realistic way possible was the goal of the creative team behind the ambitious project, and the finished product delivers, in a large part thanks to the impressive VFX created by the team at Industrial Light & Magic.

DC’s Birds of Prey Story Will Be ‘Unconventional’ Like Pulp Fiction

Warning! Some spoilers follow for what we saw being filmed on set.

On a brisk March morning in Burbank, California, IGN along with other members of the press were invited to Warner Bros. Studios to visit the set of DC's upcoming Birds of Prey film starring Margot Robbie as Harley Quinn. When we first arrived, the crew took us to the "War Room," which held a treasure trove of props, costumes, and some lovely pieces of concept art. If it were possible to step into the imaginative and chaotic mind of Harley Quinn, it would probably look just like that room.

Producer Sue Kroll (A Star Is Born) informed us that Robbie envisioned Birds of Prey as a "girl gang film," and emphasized that it's a standalone movie. "

Netflix’s The Witcher Series Almost Had Ciri as the Star

Netflix’s The Witcher series was almost written with Ciri as the main character and narrator.

Showrunner Lauren Hissrich has revealed that the first draft of her script for the TV adaptation of Andrzej Sapkowski’s Witcher books was very different to the final version we’ll get to watch.

Speaking in a new video on Netflix’s YouTube channel, Hissrich talks about how she wanted the three main characters - Geralt, Yennefer, and Ciri - to flourish as individual characters before they start interacting with each other.

She says that this is made difficult for those two female characters if you’re following the books as they’re first seen through Geralt’s eyes before you get to know them properly. This led to her initially trying out a completely different take on the story that she hasn’t talked about before.

The Lie That Helped Build Nintendo

In 1981, a young Swede called Owe Bergsten strolled through Singapore to pass the time before his flight home. It had been something of a busman’s holiday - after a busy Christmas running his electronics shop, he and his business partners had travelled to the Far East, idly looking for the products they could import before the next Christmas. Passing a camera shop, he spotted a two-button LCD game called ‘Fire RC-04’ in the window. An acquaintance had told him not long before that LCD games were the future, far better than the simple LED handhelds people had been playing recently. Owe bought it on a whim.

Sitting down for the flight, he turned it on. Firemen holding a sheet blinked across the bottom of the display, catching figures falling from a burning building and bouncing them across to safety. Bergsten got hooked. He played Fire for the entirety of the return flight, playing pass-the-pad with his seat neighbour. When that flight was unexpectedly diverted due to fog, he played it on the 3 hour bus ride he was then forced to take back home to Gothenburg. As he travelled, always playing or waiting to play, he started to wonder who’d made this compulsive little rectangle, and if he could sell them too.
