Captain Pike Returns in Star Trek: Short Treks First Look
Anson Mount's Captain Pike proved to be one of the most popular aspects of Star Trek: Discovery in its second season, so much so that fans have been very vocal about their desire for a full-on Captain Pike series featuring Mount, Ethan Peck as Spock, and Rebecca Romijn as Number One, adventuring onboard the USS Enterprise. And while such a show has yet to be announced, we are getting more mini-adventures featuring those characters in this year's batch of Star Trek: Short Treks, including next week's installment, "Ask Not."
In "Ask Not," Mount returns to the captain's chair, this time joined by Trek newcomer Amrit Kaur. Here's the official logline for the short:
"When an attack on Starbase 28 leaves a surprise prisoner under Cadet Thira Sidhu’s (Amrit Kaur) watch, she is faced with making a decision that may threaten her standing in Starfleet."
Left 4 Dead and Portal Writer Is Developing a Unique, Network-focused FPS
Chet Faliszek, the writer of games such as Portal 1 and 2, Left 4 Dead 1 and 2, and episodes of Half-Life, has announced that he is working on a unique, co-op network first-person shooter.
Speaking at the Reboot Develop conference in Canada (thanks, VG247) Faliszek told the audience about his Unreal Engine FPS. He’s developing the game at his new studio Stray Bombay which he co-founded with Riot Games designer Kimberly Voll.
The unnamed shooter will leverage both of their strengths, Faliszek’s history of writing some of the most innovate FPS games of the decade, and Voll’s work as an AI and player psychology expert from her time at Riot and working on VR games like Fantastic Contraption.
Game of Thrones Actor Joins Wheel of Time as Rand’s Father Tam
It seems the full cast for Amazon Prime's adaption of Wheel of Time is finally coming together, with the addition of Michael McElhatton (Game of Thrones). It was announced Wednesday on Twitter that McElhatton would join an already talented cast of 8 other previously announced actors.
McElhatton will play a character known as Tam Al’Thor, father of Rand Al’Thor (Josha Stradowski). In the popular book series, Tam is a skilled warrior who is incredibly talented with a bow, as well as wields impeccable swordsmanship. Since production for Wheel of Time is still in the very early stages, it's unclear how close McElhatton's portrayal of Tam Al'Thor will be to the original.

Pokemon Sword and Shield Trailer Highlights New Ways to Train
Pokemon Sword and Shield’s latest trailer has detailed items and features that will make training Pokemon easier.
First up are Exp. Candies, which are earned through Max Raid Battles and give your Pokemon experience to help them level up faster. The new trailer shows five different sizes of Exp. Candies, from XS all the way up to XL. These are different from Rare Candies, which automatically level your Pokemon up.
Giving your Pokemon a Mint will change those stats that are likely to grow quickly when that Pokemon levels up. Mints don’t change a Pokemon’s Nature, they just alter stat-growth patterns and make Pokemon’s stats more customizable.
Old Pokemon games had a cap on how many supplements you could give a Pokemon, but Sword and Shield removes this limit. Now, you’ll be able to max out a Pokemon’s base stats using items like Protein and Iron.

Street Fighter 5 Producer Reveals Why Capcom Turned Down a Mortal Kombat Collaboration
Capcom has confirmed that there were talks about potentially doing some kind of crossover between its Street Fighter franchise and NetherRealm Studios’ Mortal Kombat games. But the Japanese company made a collective decision to turn down the opportunity.
In a new interview with Capcom producer Yoshinori Ono and Eurogamer, the longtime Street Fighter producer shared the details behind how collaboration between Street Fighter and Mortal Kombat failed to materialize.
“It’s true that a proposal for a Street Fighter character in Mortal Kombat was rejected by Capcom,” Ono says. “But it wasn’t me personally!”
