With all the secrets of Doki Doki Literature Club discovered and much of the other business logistics running smoothly, Dan Salvato of Team Salvato, the developer of Doki Doki Literature Club (or DDLC) is ready to move on to new projects. In an interview with IGN, Salvato teased a little bit about his next visual novel and clarified some of his goals and projects going forward.

Salvato was very clear that he’s not trying to be cryptic about when he plans on announcing things, despite the teases and secrets in DDLC. In reality, Salvato is still trying to figure out how to prioritize which project he focuses on next and actually work on them, though he does have an idea of what he wants to do with both.

Get a Close-Up Look at the Sega Genesis Mini Along With the Start Screens for All 42 Games

The initial Sega Genesis Mini announcement filled me with a strange sense of dread. It's not the first time the 16-bit Genesis got the mini retro console treatment, and the PlayStation Classic completely failed to live up to anyone's expectations.

However, Sega really put its heart into the Genesis Mini, the official, first-party mini console celebrating 30 years of Genesis goodness. Not only did it announce an excellent line-up of games for the system, it also decided to add 2 bonus games never released in the west, bringing the total to 42 in all.

Japan's legendary M2 handled the software for the Sega Genesis Mini, and the attention to detail that made M2 famous is fully present here. The menu music is an original creation written by Streets of Rage composer Yuzo Koshiro and created using the original Sega Genesis soundchip, and it will stick in your head all day. It's wonderful.

Dead Island 2 Is Officially on its Third Developer

Dead Island 2 developer Sumo Digital has concluded work on the project, and will not be working with new developer Dambuster Studios as work continues on the long-standing zombie game.

In a statement to IGN, Sumo Digital said “As noted in today's announcement, Dambuster Studios is now the lead developer for Dead Island 2. This transition has been planned for some time and has no impact on Sumo's business or financial outlook. We look forward to Dead Island 2's release and we wish our partners at THQ Nordic great success.”

The UK-based studio also confirmed that “Sumo has concluded work on Dead Island 2,” rather than working as a support studio alongside new lead developer Dambuster Studios.

Borderlands 3: The Final Preview

After spending several hours with a mid-summer build of Borderlands 3 I can now say with confidence that the series’ fast-paced looter-shooter formula remains almost entirely unchanged. Borderlands 3 is unapologetically stylized, silly, and decidedly not shoehorned into the mold of a game as a service like Anthem or Destiny.

That’s not to say Gearbox hasn’t taken a few cues from other recent trends. For instance, you can slide down hills and ping anything in sight a la Apex Legends, and in a series first, each of the four classes can choose between multiple action skills. But otherwise, things felt functionally and thematically similar to previous entries – which isn’t inherently a bad thing. What I played of Borderlands 3 was filled to the brim with the off-color humor, slew of creative weaponry, and straightforward four-player co-op fun we know and love.

Need For Speed Heat Announced For November Release

Ghost Games has unveiled Need for Speed Heat, the title of the next game in its racing series, and penned a November 8 release date.

Sporting a distinct Miami Vice aesthetic, the title riffs off the 80s nostalgia in vogue at the moment - but the graphics look ultra-modern. The trailer shows legions of supercars racing through rain-soaked streets that reflect streetlights in hues of purple and orange.

Heat seems to be continuing Need For Speed Payback's focus on story. The new trailer champions a rebellious group of racers, fronted by a woman speaking with a thick Spanish accent, proving that police chases are once again back.

"They impose limits to control us," she says. "Limits to make us blend in. Make us safe. But we own the limits, and we'll own the night."

Prey 2 Audio Logs Reveal Where Tommy’s Story Might Have Gone

Newly released audio logs from the cancelled sequel to 2006's Prey have shone light on the game that never was.

Available to listen to here courtesy of digital games curator Andrew Borman, the logs are voiced by Prey 2's lead character, Killian Samuels. It suggests he would have teamed up with the Tommy - the protagonist from the first game - to escape Exodus.

"I'm not alone," Samuels tells the log. "There's another living human on this godforsaken rock. To tell the truth, I thought I was having another breakdown at first. He walked right up to me on the street, right onto the sea of alien faces and just held out his hand. 'I'm Tommy,' he said. Like it was the most natural thing in the world. Strange to hear real English again instead of the auto translator. I'd almost forgotten what it sounded like."
