Star Wars Fans Are Motivated by Beating Other Star Wars Fans, EA Says

According to EA, the main motivation behind most Star Wars fans is to know more about Star Wars than other Star Wars fans.

Speaking at the Develop conference (via Eurogamer), EA Motive’s Jade Raymond explained that “the number one motivator for either fans of playing Star Wars games or looking to participate in the Star Wars universe in any way is to become the number one fan.”

Raymond explained that a Star Wars Fan’s motivation for learning more Star Wars facts usually boils down to being able “to beat their friends at Star Wars trivia.” As silly as that might come off, the insight is apparently the product of EA’s research and thinking about what Star Wars fans and gamers want.

Monster Hunter Is Getting a 3D Animated Special

Capcom has partnered with Pure Imagination Studios to create a 3D animated Monster Hunter special called Monster Hunter: Legends of the Guild. The special will be completed this winter and will premiere globally in 2019.

Legends of the Guild is the story of a young man out to prove his merits as a titular monster hunter. He gets a chance to do just that when his village is caught in the sights of an Elder Dragon, a beast Capcom describes as "a veritable force of nature made flesh."

DC’s Shazam! First Look Revealed

The first picture of Zachary Levi as Shazam! has surfaced, alongside Jack Dylan Grazer, who plays Billy Batson’s best friend, Freddy Feeman.

Entertainment Weekly has shared an exclusive official first look from DC's Shazam! of Earth's Mightiest Hero and his best friend Freddy, enjoying a couple of sodas.

New Pokemon Anime Episode Apparently Won’t Air in the US

Pokémon Sun and Moon's 64th episode won't be broadcast in the US, leading fans to speculate it might have been banned.

Polygon reports that Ash's get-up in this particular episode of the Pokémon Sun and Moon anime might be why it's not coming stateside.

Disney XD's programming schedule makes no mention of the episode, which sees Ash dress up as a Passimian, wearing a furry suit, with his face painted black.

This has lead some fans to believe that the episode is being skipped over because of the similarities to blackface.

Deadpool Photobombs Alien and Other Fox Movies

To celebrate the digital release of the Deadpool 2 Super Duper $@%!#& Cut on August 7th, Fox Home Entertainment has revealed six more limited edition "photobombed" Blu-rays of fan-favorite films featuring Deadpool himself.

The Deadpool photobombed Blu-rays will be exclusive to Walmart stores nationwide and Walmart.com on August 7.

The six films featuring now-photobombed Deadpool artwork include The Martian, Alien, The Day After Tomorrow, City Slickers, 127 Hours and The Devil Wears Prada.

They join an 18-film set that includes 12 titles previously released at Walmart.

ESPN, Disney and ABC to Broadcast Overwatch League

ESPN, Disney and ABC will now broadcast the Overwatch League.

ESPN has announced Disney has signed a multi-year broadcast deal with Blizzard Entertainment. The deal will cover the Overwatch League playoffs beginning tonight, the Season 1 grand finals from the Barclays Center next month, the Overwatch World Cup this fall, and Overwatch League Season 2 next year.

Overwatch matches will be broadcast across the ESPN network, ESPN2, Disney XD, ABC, and streaming services with "hundreds of hours" of live and highlight programming. This will mark the first time the Overwatch League will be broadcast live on TV.

Third Fortnite: Season 5 Teaser Says Worlds Will Collide

Epic Games has shared another teaser for Fortnite: Season 5.

The third teaser image from the official Fortnite Twitter account is bordered by two rifts and says "Worlds Collide" across it.

As Fortnite's fifth season has approached, rifts have appeared across the map and in-game items have appeared in the real world as part of a mysterious ARG. The game's mascots have even started popping up across Europe, with Supply Llamas being found in Poland, England, France, Spain, and Germany

Subnautica Announced for PS4

The aquatic survival game Subnautica is heading to PlayStation 4 this holiday season.

Over on the PlayStation Blog, Panic Button studio general manager and director of development Adam Creighton revealed his company was behind the PS4 port. The studio is also working on Warframe for Nintendo Switch and previously brought Doom and Wolfenstein II: The New Colossus to the hybrid system.

Thai Cave Rescue Is Becoming a Movie

The story of a boys' soccer team trapped in a cave in Thailand and ultimately getting rescued will soon become a movie

THR reports Pure Flix Entertainment, the production company behind God's Not Dead, is looking to adapt the incredible true story. The CEO and co-founder of Pure Flix, Michael Scott, wants to honor everyone involved with the rescue effort.

On June 23, rising water trapped a dozen boys and one coach inside a cave, and the rescue effort successfully concluded on Tuesday. Former Sgt. Saman Kunan died Friday while trying to rescue the boys.

The Gardens Between Announced for Nintendo Switch

Developer The Voxel Agents have announced that its adventure puzzle game, The Gardens Between, will arrive on Switch later this year. There's no word on an exact release date just yet, but players can except the Switch version to launch alongside the previously announced PlayStation 4, Windows, and Mac versions sometime in Q3 2018.

Taking place in a mysterious realm where cause and effect are malleable and time flows in all directions, The Gardens Between follows the story of best friends Arina and Frendt. Together they embark on an emotional journey that examines the significance of their friendship and the memories they’ve built.
