Super Smash Bros Creator Was Glad the Roster Didn’t Leak
Super Smash Bros. creator, Masahiro Sakurai, has spoken out about the reveal of Super Smash Bros. Ultimate.
In his column in Famitsu, translated via Siliconera, Sakurai said that he's "really glad" that the roster didn't leak ahead of the reveal because the game "wouldn’t have gotten the same reception," adding that the he has the feeling that announcing that all characters are playable "may have been a Pandora’s Box that could ruin possibilities for what’s next in the series.”
Sakurai said it was "the first time I ever saw such a tremendous reception for just a game promo. The uproar was beyond encouraging."
Remedy: Alan Wake and Quantum Break Can’t Get Sequels Without Microsoft Approval
Alan Wake fans have been waiting a long time for a proper sequel, but they may never get one, and that goes double for Quantum Break fans. The reason, according to developer Remedy Entertainment, is Microsoft doesn't want to make them.
"Considering our history... Alan Wake was really interesting but it was a collaboration with Microsoft. Due to certain reasons, it never got a sequel," Remedy CEO Tero Virtala told GamesIndustry.biz. "Quantum Break, also, we put a lot of effort into creating the world, the characters, the stories, but still it was Microsoft IP. They decided not to take it further. If we owned the IP, it's fully in our hands to decide how we create it, how we develop, what are the creative decisions that we take? And then maybe one day in the future, if it proves to be successful, it's again in our hands to decide what will be done. That was important for us."
There’s a 25-Foot Tall Jeff Goldblum Statue in London
A giant Jeff Goldblum statue has been unveiled in London to mark Jurassic Park's 25th Anniversary.
NOW TV revealed the statue, dubbed the Jurassic Jeff, in front of Tower Bridge. It pays homage to a classic scene from the movie featuring Goldblum's Dr. Ian Malcolm with his shirt unbuttoned after a Tyrannosaurus Rex attack.
The sculpture measure 25 feet tall, weighs over 330 pounds, took six weeks to produce and 250 hours to make. Goldblum previously touched on that iconic scene and just how popular it's become over the years.
“It's supposed to be Costa Rica, right?," Goldblum said. "So things are hot and I'm sure I'm in some sort of fever. So all the logic is that we got to get some of these wet clothes off immediately. As I remember, I don't think anybody fought me on that."
The Dark Knight: How Heath Ledger’s Joker Was Born
When The Dark Knight was released in the U.S. on July 18, 2008, it was immediately clear that not only had director Christopher Nolan elevated the superhero movie genre to something approaching high art, but that an iconic take on a classic character had also emerged from the endeavor: Heath Ledger’s dark, scary and more realistic take on Batman’s age-old nemesis, the Joker.
On the occasion of The Dark Knight’s 10th anniversary, we spoke with make-up artist John Caglione, Jr., who was nominated for an Academy Award for his work on The Dark Knight along with Conor O'Sullivan. Caglione had previously won an Oscar for his makeup on Dick Tracy back in 1991, so he came into The Dark Knight with some very relevant experience in the realm of creating grotesqueries. But when it came to birthing a new version of the Joker, the makeup artist quickly realized that he would be crossing into some new and uncomfortable terrain.
Deadpool’s Chimichanga Surprises Have Mystery Filling Inside
The wonderful thing about a character as irreverent as Deadpool is that a lot of liberties can be taken when it comes to what kind of merchandise is appropriate.
The newest in a long line of hilariously nonsensical Merc-With-a-Mouth collectibles are Hasbro's upcoming Chimichanga Surprises, a series of blind-bagged figures, with mystery fillings.
There are twelve two-inch tall figures to collect in the first wave, and each one comes with an accessory and a sticker sheet. These will available at major retailers and from HasbroToyShop.com later this fall, with a suggested retail price of $7.99.
Oh yeah, and don't eat them. They're not food.
Supergirl Casts Smallville Alum Sam Witwer as Agent Liberty
Supergirl has cast Smallville alum Sam Witwer as Agent Liberty in Season 4.
EW reports Witwer will portray the character as a villainous and terrifying founder of the Children of Liberty hate group, which supports a human-first world order. This'll prove to be a problem for Supergirl (Melissa Benoist) and the DEO, who are pro-alien integration.
Witwer played Doomsday in Smallville Season 8. He's also known for his numerous Star Wars voice roles. He's portrayed Starkiller in The Force Unleashed video games and Darth Maul in both Star Wars: The Clone Wars and Star Wars Rebels.
Devil May Cry 5: Capcom is Aiming for a Consistent 60 fps
Capcom has shared more details on the upcoming Devil May Cry 5, saying it's aiming for a consistent 60 frames per second.
According to an interview with the developer in Famitsu, via Silicon Era, while the goal for the team is photorealism combined with "tight Capcom play control", hitting a consistent 60 fps is also a focus, to nail the high-speed combat associated with the series.
However, Capcom stated the photorealism graphics will affect the motion cancel mechanic, saying it would look strange and calling it “the uncanny valley of action.” As a result, players will still be able to input motion cancel in DMC 5, but it won't skip the animation. The developers are continually trying to offset the new look of the game with gameplay responsiveness.
