Does Netflix’s Altered Carbon Fix the Book’s Issues?

Netflix's Altered Carbon is fascinated with the idea of bodies -- we see them as weapons, as commodities and, ultimately, as disposable. This is encapsulated in Takeshi Kovacs, a former military operative turned rebel, who wakes up 250 years after his “death” in a body that isn’t his own in order to solve the murder of one of the world’s richest men, Laurens Bancroft. The twist here -- well, one of them -- is that Takeshi, who was born an Asian man, is put into a white body. In the new Netflix series, this new body -- called a “sleeve” -- is played by Swedish actor Joel Kinnaman.

He enters a world full of debauchery, where the rich -- called “Meths” -- can live forever and spend the centuries engaging in violent, sadistic and often fatal sex acts. They make their money through the torture industry, and there's a brothel in the clouds that allows them to live out their sickest fantasies, most of which include killing sex workers, because their sleeves are believed to be as replaceable as condoms.

Original Hulk Is Coming Back From the Dead

Marvel Comics revealed that the original Hulk aka Bruce Banner is coming back from the dead in March's Avengers #684.

Marvel's press release said, "He’s angry. And you’ve never seen a Hulk this angry before," and that "it’s not your typical Hulk return, either! This Bruce Banner, unprovoked and unchecked, will take you on a frightening adventure as he battles to save the universe."

Bruce was killed in 2016's Civil War II by Hawkeye. Bruce didn't want to become the Hulk anymore and told Hawkeye that if he should become angry and start to transform, to use a special arrow he created specifically to kill the Hulk. After being confronted by Captain Marvel and her team of heroes, Bruce was backed into a corner and Hawkeye took his life.

Last Update: June 2018

Not long ago, a laptop with a touchscreen was considered pretty out of place. Sure, it was nice to have the option to tap or scroll with your finger, but there was no real advantage to having a touchscreen since it was often times easier to just use the touchpad. As tablets continued to gain in popularity, and Microsoft admitted it messed up with Windows 8 by going whole hog with touch, the idea of convertible 2-in-1 laptops was born.

System Shock Remaster Put on ‘Hiatus’

The System Shock remaster is on hiatus, and the team is reassessing the best path forward in development.

Nightdive Studios' CEO and founder Stephen Kick made the announcement on the game's Kickstarter page, assuring fans the game has not been cancelled, merely postponed, to give the team time to "return to

vision" of the game.

In the hiatus announcement, Kick said during development, due in part to changing game engines from Unity to Unreal, and the team's subsequent ability and desire to "

more," the team strayed "from the core concepts of the original title." The team went through changes, and the scope, concept, and budget for the game changed as well.

Jean Grey Is Better Off Without the Phoenix

Jean Grey has been dead in the comic books for 15 years, but now she’s back with a twist that completely changes the game for the character.

Warning: full spoilers ahead for Phoenix Resurrection: The Return of Jean Grey and X-Men Red!

Jean Grey was brought back to life by the Phoenix in the pages of January’s Phoenix Resurrection #5. But instead of bonding once more with the cosmic entity that gave her incredible powers, Jean turned the Phoenix away. It was a truly shocking twist, but it immediately made sense why the folks at Marvel Comics decided to do it: Jean Grey is better off without the Phoenix.
