DC Heroes With PTSD Will Receive Aide in Sanctuary
Superheroes fight incredible battles to save the day, but what’s not always explored is how they cope with the trauma afterward. DC Comics writer Tom King (Batman, Mister Miracle) is looking to change that with Sanctuary, a new place in the DC Universe where heroes can go to deal with Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) and other related issues; a place to heal wounds that aren’t physical.
"Every DC comic is full of violence. It's fun and exciting and I love reading about that, but do we talk about the consequences of that, both on the characters and the readers, and they
asked me to think about that and do something with it. And we are. We've created something, it's called Sanctuary. We're creating something where it's sort of like a crisis center for superheroes. And it's going to be DC wide, all the superheroes and it's going to be a place where these superheroes who are living violent lives every single day. Batman gets in a fight every single night, five times a night,” King said during a panel at DC in D.C. "And so, we're creating this space where superheroes can go that sort of mimics the good work people are doing for veterans around the world where they can have a space where they can actually admit that this violence has had consequences for them and has affected them mentally, so that your greatest heroes, who are inspiring our children, can say proudly: yes, I’ve had some mental difficulties, and yes, working with people has helped me through them. And we don’t hide behind that.”
Black Lightning Premiere Inspires Discussion of Real-world Issues On MLK Weekend
Over the Martin Luther King Jr. holiday weekend, an event called “DC in D.C.” took place in Washington D.C. where Warner Bros. and DC Entertainment brought together various voices from the world of entertainment to spotlight how DC superheroes are used to address real-world issues. This event was put on in honor of Saturday’s world premiere of the TV show Black Lightning, based on DC’s first African-American superhero to have his own standalone comic series, which was screened at the Smithsonian’s National Museum of American History.
Netflix ‘Still Exploring the Opportunity’ for Switch App
Netflix is still "exploring the opportunity" to bring its streaming app to Nintendo Switch.
The news comes by way of Polygon, who was told by a Netflix representative, "We are still exploring the opportunity with Nintendo, but don’t have definitive plans to share at this time"
Over the weekend, customer service account @Netflixhelps told a customer "there are currently no plans for Netflix on Nintendo Switch," but the tweet has since been deleted.
Although the Switch originally launched without streaming support, Nintendo said it hadn't ruled it out for future updates, and Hulu has already brought its streaming app to the Switch.
WWE: 12 Iconic Male-Female Duos
Debuting January 16th at 10/9c, exclusively on Facebook Watch, WWE Mixed Match Challenge will feature male-female WWE Superstar pairings competing in a mixed tag match tournament - with only one RAW or SmackDown duo winning $100,000 for their chosen charity.
With this new series in mind, we thought it an opportune time to look back at some of the company's most memorable male-female partnerships. From the iconic Randy Savage and Miss Elizabeth to modern-era pairs like The Miz and Maryse, sometimes having a female "valet" at wrestler's side could really boost someone's value as a performer and/or attraction. Sure, most often there was a nonsense romance angle that accompanied the story, but sometimes real-life couples actually teamed up on screen and their chemistry and charisma was enough craft something magical.

Former Motorstorm, Driveclub Devs Open New Studio
Wushu Studios, a new Liverpool-based independent games studio founded former Evolution Studios talent, has been announced.
Despite having worked on racing games in the past, Wushu Studios is currently developing a "brand-new IP with a tantalizing and unexpected take on the science fiction genre." The team isn't ready to share details about the project just yet, but confirmed it's not a racing game and that prototyping began with Unreal Engine 4 this past September.

Six Power Rangers Teams Unite in ‘Shattered Grid’
Boom Studios' Mighty Morphin Power Rangers comic is gearing up for a massive conflict in 2018 thanks to the "Shattered Grid" storyline. Now we have a better idea of the epic scope of this event, as the series is set to draw in heroes from five other Power Rangers teams - Zeo, In Space, RPM, SPD, and Ninja Steel.
We have an exclusive first look at two new chapters of "Shattered Grid" hitting stores in April 2018. Mighty Morphin Powers #26 (from writer Kyle Higgins and artist Daniele di Nicuolo) sees our heroes join forces with the Time Force just as Lord Drakkon nears total victory. Then, Mighty Morphin Power Rangers 2018 Annual #1 (from various creative teams including writers Kyle Higgins and Ryan Parrott and artists Marcus To and Dylan Burnett) will draw in the other Ranger teams as Drakkon's threat extends across time and space.
Nintendo Still Isn’t Interested in VR or 4K Support
Nintendo has reconfirmed there are currently no plans for the company to explore virtual reality or 4K support, citing the relatively small market for those technologies as a main reason behind its reluctance to invest.
In a French interview (translated by NintendoLife), Managing Director of Nintendo France Philippe Lavoue builds on Nintendo's previous comments, offering further elaboration on Nintendo's hesitance to embrace the new technologies.
Lavoue expresses his doubts that VR can "appeal to the mainstream", commenting that customers would rather have an "all-inclusive package" than pay to expand their hardware with headsets and other augments. Similarly, he questions how "useful" investing in 4K technology would be given it is currently embraced by a relative minority of users; he also questions how much "novelty" Nintendo could bring to 4K support compared to its competitors.
Bill Goldberg Headed to WWE Hall of Fame
WWE has announced that Bill Goldberg will be inducted into the WWE Hall of Fame at a ceremony on Friday, April 6th at the Smoothie King Center in New Orleans.
Goldberg's last match with the company was back at WrestleMania 33 in Orlando, when he defended the WWE Universal Championship against Brock Lesnar. In a statement, Triple H said "Goldberg’s unique athleticism, persona and intensity captured the imagination of sports entertainment fans around the world throughout his illustrious career. We are honored to have Goldberg take his rightful place in the WWE Hall of Fame.”
Goldberg made his WCW debut back in September of 1997 and went on to participate in one of the hottest storylines of that era with his undefeated streak of 173-0.
Samoa Joe on Turning his RAW Debut into a Comic Story
On sale January 17th, Boom! Studios' WWE #13 will feature "Undrafted" - the tale of WWE Superstar Samoa Joe's rise to the main Monday Night RAW roster from NXT - a story co-authored by none other than Samoa Joe himself!
Written alongside Headlocked Comics' Michael Kingston, "Undrafted" hones in on Joe's unbridled anger and tenacity as he tries to push back against his main roster call-up because of unfinished business with then-NXT champ Shinsuke Nakamura. I spoke with both Joe and Kingston about their arc in WWE #13 and what it's like to tell this story almost a full year after Joe's RAW debut.
"I'm a really big comic book fan," Joe said. "I think before the advent of iBooks and digital media I was always throwing a couple trades in my bag whenever I'd head out on the weekend to do shows. It was something that kept my mind occupied and amused sitting in hotel rooms or waiting for flights and whatnot."
