IGN Movies Podcast: The Oscar Nominations

Welcome back to the IGN Movies Podcast! This week, Jim Vejvoda and Tom Jorgensen are joined by our new Executive Editor of TV, Laura Prudom, to discuss at length what we thought of this year's Oscar nominations

The Shape of Water led the pack with 13 nominations, but this year's nominations also saw a slew of praiseworthy firsts. We discuss what we thought of the various nominated films, performers, and directors as well was which movies and artists we think were overlooked this year.

We also give our thoughts on those Captain Marvel set photos that revealed Carol Danvers' costume and react to those rumors that Netflix might distribute Cloverfield 3.

Fortnite Update Now Available

Fortnite patch V.2.3.0 is available now, introducing bug fixes and quality of life improvements to the game.

The full patch notes are available on Epic Games' website, and include details on a new consumable, added options for both console and PC players, and a host of bug fixes.

The Save the World Winter event has ended, but there will be more Mutant Storms in this new event season, featuring Minibosses introduced during the Holiday Event. Players will be able to earn more seasonal gold from new quests, which can be put toward evolution materials in the Event Store.

The Chug Jug is a new Legendary consumable which allows players to gain max health and shields if they can stay safe for 15 seconds while consuming it. AutoRun has also been added to the game, and quitting a match early will no longer award stat or challenge progress.

Gerald’s Game Director to Helm The Shining Sequel Doctor Sleep

The film adaptation of Stephen King's 2013 sequel to The Shining, Doctor Sleep, has reportedly found its director.

Deadline reports Warner Bros. has set Gerald's Game director Mike Flanagan to helm the movie, which follows Danny Torrance, the son in The Shining, now in his 40s while he's still haunted by the Overlook Hotel. Flanagan will also reportedly rewrite the script originally adapted by Akiva Goldsman.

Trevor Macy will produce the project, with Goldsman and Jon Berg executive producing. A release date reportedly has not been set yet and there are no details regarding casting for now.

Oswald Revealed as Next DLC Character for KOF 14

SNK has revealed that Oswald will be the newest DLC character for the The King of Fighters XIV. The character is playable at SNK’s booth for the first two days of EVO Japan 2018, from January 26.

SNK had already announced that a new DLC character would be playable at EVO Japan. The announcement came with the image of a joker card, which led to fans speculating that it would be Oswald – speculation that proved to be correct,.

At SNK’s booth, there are official cosplayers dressed as characters from SNK Heroines Tag Team Frenzy, which was announced during the Nintendo Direct Mini earlier this month. One of the cosplayers is dressed as Nakoruru, who has not been announced yet for the game, so this might be a hint that she’ll join the roster as well.

La La Land Director Developing Drama Series for Apple

La La Land director Damien Chazelle is developing a drama series for Apple.

Variety reports Apple has given a straight-to-series order for the untitled project. Plot details are being kept under wraps for now. Chazelle will write and direct every episode and will also serve as executive producer.

La La Land producers Jordan Horowitz and Fred Berger will executive produce along with MRC, the studio behind Ozark and House of Cards. No further details, including a premiere date and casting, have been revealed.

Chazelle is also executive producing and directing multiple episodes of a series for Netflix, the Parisian-set musical drama The Eddy. In addition, he's in production on his next movie, First Man, which stars Ryan Gosling and Claire Foy, and opens in theaters later this year.

Big Changes Coming to Hearthstone’s Ranked Mode

Big changes are coming to Hearthstone's Ranked Play this March.

Blizzard announced on Twitter the Ranked Play ladder is changing, and Hearthstone game director Ben Brode detailed what players can expect in the video below.
