Star Trek: Discovery Is the ‘Origin’ of Captain Kirk’s Trek

Astronaut Dr. Mae Jemison moderated the Star Trek: Discovery panel at New York Comic Con today, which is no coincidence considering that the show’s co-creator Bryan Fuller has said that she was one of the inspirations behind Discovery’s main character, Michael Burnham.

The Discovery team has been pretty tight-lipped about revealing plot points leading up the show’s debut, but now that we’re three episodes in (the fourth airs tomorrow night), the producers and cast on the panel today were willing to open up some. That said, spoilers follow for episodes one through three, and for the first few minutes of episode four.

Jemison introduced the cast and producers, and recalled how when she was in space onboard the space shuttle Discovery, she always opened up her communications with “all hailing frequencies open” -- just like her inspiration, Nichelle Nichols, from the original Star Trek. The first several minutes of episode four were then played for the crowd.

Bruce Campbell Teases Ash vs. Evil Dead Season 3

Ash vs. Evil Dead returned to New York Comic Con today with a panel discussion (moderated by IGN's own Terri Schwartz) and a surprise screening of the Season Three premiere.  (Check out our review.)

They also showed off the season three teaser trailer, which seemed to focus mainly on early episodes though there were glimpses of things that probably happen further down the road. We see a pair of high school girls, one of whom is revealed to be a daughter Ash never knew about, scrubbing graffiti off a locker as someone in a school mascot costume stalks creepily toward them. Kelly seems to have paired up with a biker-looking guy as both of them wear matching leather outfits and carry matching machine guns. We see Ruby walking around with her entrails hanging out, tons of fighting, Pablo doing magic-like things and Ash promising to protect his daughter from Ruby's machinations. He says, "Never get between a papa bear and his cub." Possibly not Ash's best tagline but it's serviceably goofy.

Rather than immediately returning to the titular agents as they were kidnapped, SHIELD offers a look at the operation that led to their new predicament.

The mysterious, bald-headed assailant is shown at his home at first, having a leisurely swim in his pool. All seems fine — until he peels off his skin in the bathroom and freshens up his body suit. (His true form is only depicted in silhouette behind an opaque shadow door.
