Defending Indy and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull
It’s easy to bag out Indiana Jones’ fourth cinematic outing, Kingdom of the Crystal Skull, because, frankly, there’s plenty wrong with it. You don’t have to look too far on the Infernal Google Machine to see ramblings, listicles, and video rants dedicated to this very topic.
As much as I used to revel in denying its existence, Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull isn’t the Jar-Jar-Binks-filled, sand-everywhere, Han-Shot-first travesty that’s otherwise known as George Lucas’ bad touch in the post-Original Trilogy world. So, in the spirit of defying Metacritic User Review logic where if something isn’t a 10 it can only possibly be a 0, let’s break down the pros of Indy’s fourth cinematic outing.
Tom Clancy’s Jack Ryan Footage Revealed
Amazon brought its upcoming series Tom Clancy’s Jack Ryan to New York Comic Con on Saturday. The show doesn’t premiere until summer 2018 or thereabouts -- showrunner Carlton Cuse seemed reluctant to pin down an exact time window during the NYCC panel – but fans were treated to a sneak peek at the first seven minutes of the pilot, an intense teaser trailer and a Q&A with Cuse, Executive Producer Graham Roland, and stars John Krasinsky and Abbie Cornish.
The footage began with a scene set in 1983 Lebanon. Two young brothers are dancing to Safety Dance until their mom breaks up the party and sends them off to tend to their chores. Their adorable hijinks are interrupted when a group of jets screams through the sky before turning to begin a massive bombing run that envelopes the boys’ entire village.
Constantine Joins Legends of Tomorrow Season 3
John Constantine will return to the Arrowverse.
ComicBook.com reports Matt Ryan will reprise his role as Constantine in an unspecified Season 3 episode of DC's Legends of Tomorrow. There's no word yet on just how big of a role Constantine will have on the show or the reason for his involvement.
The live-action Constantine TV show ran for one season on NBC in the 2014-15 TV season. Ryan recently reprised his role as Constantine in Season 4 of Arrow. The CW head Mark Pedowitz previously said there were no plans for him to return to the live-action DC shows anytime soon.
Blade Runner 2049 Underwhelms in Box Office Debut
Blade Runner 2049 disappointed in its domestic debut at the box office, opening in first place with an estimated $31.5 million.
Given the glowing reception from critics and strong advance ticket sales, the film was projected to make significantly more, with expectations in the $45-50 million range. Director Denis Villeneuve's sequel was extremely expensive to make, boasting a reported production budget of $150 million before marketing costs, so the film will have to perform well in international markets if it hopes to be profitable.
While its long runtime of 163 minutes (which limits the number of screenings per day) and its "R" rating didn't work in the film's favor commercially, what appears to be the primary reason Blade Runner 2049 underwhelmed at the box office is its inability to connect with younger moviegoers. According to comScore's PostTrak data, 50 percent of ticket buyers were males over the age of 25 and another 27 percent were women over 25.
Black Mirror: Footage from Jodie Foster’s Episode Revealed
After debuting a full episode at PaleyFest New York a few days ago, Netflix brought even more new footage from the upcoming season of Black Mirror to New York Comic Con. The footage was introduced as part of a panel featuring creator Charlie Brooker and executive producer Annabel Jones, who spoke about what fans can expect from the fourth season of the dark sci-fi anthology series.
The footage came from the episode "Arkangel." The episode was directed by Jodie Foster, who also served as the moderator of the panel. The clip starts in an immaculate high-rise medical facility. A nervous mom and her four-year-old daughter wait in the reception area until a doctor arrives to explain that they’ll be part of a free clinical trial. The doctor talks about some kind of subscription model for the child’s care, which, given Black Mirror’s history, should immediately set off alarm bells for fans.

The X-Files Season 11 Release Info, Trailer Revealed
During The X-Files panel at New York Comic Con, a teaser trailer for Season 11 was shown that revealed the next season will debut in 2018
The footage started in the same place Season 10 left off with a cliffhanger, with a beam of blue light shining down on Scully and Miller. Series creator Chris Carter explained that the first episode will deal with that cliffhanger. The final shot showed a younger version of the mysterious smoking man standing next to an alien and Carter said the first episode will also explore his backstory.
Even though Mulder looked to be in peril at the end of Season 10, the trailer showed him looking fine and rather Scully was in a hospital bed, reaching up to touch her partner’s face. Earlier in the trailer, there’s a scene where Scully’s home gets invaded by masked men shooting guns, and Scully flips a table and draws her gun to fire back. Maybe she gets wounded in the battle. When asked about Scully being hospitalized during the panel, Carter said that it’d be a spoiler to answer and that audiences wouldn’t want to know.
