DC’s Flashpoint Movie Explained

Warner Bros. has big plans in mind for Ezra Miller's The Flash. Not only will the Scarlet Speedster play a prominent role in the Justice League movie this November, but he'll also be the star of another upcoming DC Extended Universe film, The Flash: Flashpoint. This new movie will adapt the comic book storyline of the same name and introduce a dramatically different version of the DC Universe on the big screen.

By now, the "Flashpoint" name probably rings a bell with a lot of DC fans, as this isn't the first time the comics have been adapted for a different medium. But if you're not sure why this story is so significant, here's everything you need to know about the epic superhero crossover that's inspiring the blockbuster movie. Spoilers for the comics story follow.

Rick and Morty Will No Longer Livestream for Free

Future episodes of Rick and Morty will not be livestreamed by Adult Swim.

The network caused a storm of excitement amongst fans of the show when the third season premiered earlier this month, by livestreaming the first two episodes for free, and following up with more of the same for the season’s third episode (although the stream was not without its problems).

This week, however, as Polygon reports, fans were disappointed to find that instead of episode four, Adult Swim instead streamed a fake live-action version of the show, with the episode only airing on traditional television or as a catch-up option for those with a cable subscription.

The Walking Dead Creator Files Lawsuit Against AMC

AMC is heading for the courts regarding its handling of The Walking Dead - again.

Following original showrunner Frank Darabont's lawsuit last year, The Hollywood Reporter has revealed that series co-creator (and original creator of the comic book series) Robert Kirkman, along with producers Gale Anne Hurd, Glen Mazzara and David Alpert, are suing for damages, citing breach of contract, tortious interference (essentially 'messing with someone else's contract') and unfair or fraudulent business acts.

Blizzard Admits it Shouldn’t Have Rebranded Battle.net

Blizzard has reversed its decision to drop the name Battle.net from its online networking service, rebranding the service as 'Blizzard Battle.net'.

"When we announced that we’d be transitioning away from the Battle.net name for our online-gaming service, we suspected that the shift would be challenging," said Blizzard in a brief statement. "We understood that Battle.net stood for something special—it represents years of shared history and enjoyment, community and friendship, for all of us and our players."

The Battle.net networking technology, described by Blizzard as its "central nervous system", was established in 1996. With the modern normalisation of online gaming, Blizzard no longer saw it necessary to have a separately-named online service to help facilitate people's understanding of the concept of online gaming, and dumped the moniker last September.

Witness the Avengers B.C. Assemble for the First Time

Marvel Comics is preparing to relaunch its publishing line in an effort to bring everything back to basics, emphasizing its most classic heroes and the history of the Marvel Universe. To kick off this Marvel Legacy initiative, writer Jason Aaron and artist Esad Ribic will be teaming up for a 50-page comic titled Marvel Legacy #1 that features the introduction of the Avengers from 1,000,000 BC and begins a story that will affect the entire Marvel line going forward.

Recently, the roster of this prehistoric Avengers team was revealed, including Odin, the Sorcerer Supreme, Iron Fist, Ghost Rider, Black Panther, Starbrand, and Phoenix. We hopped on the phone with Aaron to learn more about how they came up with this team, Ghost Rider’s jaw-dropping new (old?) ride, and just what causes these Avengers to assemble. We also ask if last year’s DC Universe: Rebirth #1 had any impact on him as he was writing Marvel Legacy #1.

5 Things to Know Before Reading Dark Nights: Metal

DC is gearing up for one of their most ambitious Batman stories ever in Dark Nights: metal. This mini-series reunites Batman's New 52 creative team for a rollicking new adventure that introduces a realm known as "The Dark Multiverse" and pits Batman and the Justice League against an army of evil Batmen. It's a book that promises to reshape the DCU while also telling a very crazy, over-the-top story about good and evil clashing on a massive scale.

If you're not up to date on DC's current comic book universe, fear not. Here are the six things you should no before diving into Dark Nights: Metal #1 this week.

One of the big selling points with Dark Nights: Metal is that it's reuniting the full creative team behind DC's New 52 Batman comic, including writer Scott Snyder, artist Greg Capullo, inker Jonathan Glapion and colorist FCO Plascencia.  Snyder himself has remained involved with the Batman franchise during the transition from the New 52 to the current DC Rebirth status quo thanks to All-Star Batman, but this will be the first time he and Capullo have worked together since Batman #50 in early 2016.
