Settlers of Catan Board Game: A Complete Purchasing Guide
Settlers of Catan, now rebranded as simply ‘Catan’, is the name that launched a thousand expansions. And possibly kicked off the entire modern board game movement, thanks to its breakthrough popularity. As a result, those who find the base game wearing thin or too lightweight have a truly impressive volume of expansions and spin-offs to choose from.
But which Catan expansions should are the best and worth buying? And what are the differences between Catan’s different editions? Where is the best place to start with Catan, anyway? Let's separate the wheat from the sheep and dive into everything you need to know about Catan and its expansions.
Photorealistic GTA 5 Mod Can (Probably) Run on Your PC
Mods that make Grand Theft Auto 5 even prettier than it already is have been around for a long time, but I’ve never seen anything quite like this one. NaturalVision Remastered is a graphics overhaul mod that aims to make Los Santos look more like the real world, and the results are pretty incredible.
Here’s a video made by mod creator Razed and Denis Sitarski showing NaturalVision Remastered in action:
It’s an impressive transformation, made even more impressive by the fact that NaturalVision will supposedly barely impact your game performance. It does this by changing GTA’s lighting, weather effects, color tone, shaders, and other settings to make it look more natural without forcing you to buy a new GPU.
We Happy Few Release Date Announced
Compulsion Games has partnered with Gearbox Publishing to launch We Happy Few on April 13, 2018.
In addition to the previously announced Xbox One and PC releases, a PS4 version will also launch on the same day. The game will be available both digitally and at retail for $60 USD.
Thanks to the studio's partnership with Gearbox, the scope of We Happy Few is expanding, and as such will feature a "full-length story campaign played as three different characters and more than 250 unique encounters." Each playable character has their own set of unique benefits, as well as their own dark backstory.

Conan Exiles: The Frozen North Is Bigger, Badder, and Colder
I went atop the highest mountain not for enlightenment or even because "it's there," but rather to see what a frost giant looks like when I carved one up with a spear. Turns out, at least the way the free new Frozen North expansion for Conan Exiles depicts them, they end up looking a lot like Kratos. Up on the snowy wastes on the roof of the world I hacked at one of their calves, dodging his axe and splashing his pale skin with red until he called his buds and I had no choice but to flee. No biggie. It turns out that retreating from the highest mountain gives you a fantastic view of the world below.
For the first time in several months it's a world I want to return to. Landscape-centered eye candy has always been one of the chief reasons to play Conan Exiles, but the extra diversity of the new Nordic-themed biome allows Funcom's world to feel a little more like a real space than just a pretty one. It almost doubles the size of the map and offers something to look at besides desert. It gives us trees besides palms. It introduces dreary little rainshowers and comes with an array of improvements ranging from AI enhancements to crafting systems for brewing and cooking. Even the new music enriches the mood.
Assassin’s Creed Origins Is the Exploration-Focused Future of the Franchise
Assassin’s Creed Origins is the most open world Assassin’s Creed game Ubisoft has ever created. It stretches and pushes the boundaries of a historical sandbox, fundamentally restructures the way missions are delivered and played, and places an almost singular focus on exploration and discovery.
Origins may be the beginning of the series from a chronological and story standpoint, but from what I’ve seen behind the scenes, its emphasis on open exploration and freedom is creating the future of the franchise.
The first and most prominent change coming to Origins is its fast and loose quest system. In previous Assassin’s Creed games you would have main missions, which in their function were an icon on the map that would trigger a unique encounter with exclusion zones, out of bound areas, and failure conditions that you could only get out of by backing out to the menu.
How to Take Great Photos of the Solar Eclipse, Even With Your Phone
There’s a total solar eclipse in the continental United States on August 21st, for the first time in nearly 40 years. The moon will block out the sun for almost three minutes for the regions that are in the direct path of totality, making things as dark as nighttime during the day. Even those who aren’t in regions where the eclipse is in full force, partial eclipses are uniquely awesome and will be viewable across the entire country, too.
Doctor Who: David Tennant ‘Not Shocked’ By Uproar
Since the announcement that Jodie Whittaker would be taking over from Peter Capaldi as the new lead of the BBC's long-running sci-fi Doctor Who, the Internet has been rife with discussion over the decision to cast a woman as the Doctor for the first time in the show's near-54 year history.
While many have welcomed the casting as a progressive step forward for the show, there has been a vocal minority that has strongly opposed the idea - and no one is less surprised than former Doctor David Tennant.
As Vulture reports, Tennant appeared on The Late Show earlier this week, where the topic of Whittaker's casting came up, revealing that he faced his own kind of backlash when taking over from Christoper Ecclestone - his 'weaselly face' being one point of particular concern - and sharing that he thinks it's par for the course with a new actor inhabiting such an iconic role - "whenever the Doctor changes there’s a backlash because that’s a character that people love, so people get very affectionate about the Doctor they knew".
Learn the Full Story of Doctor Who in America
In the upcoming book Red White and Who: The Story of Doctor Who in America from ATB Publishing, the history of the classic British sci-fi series in the U.S. (and Canada) is traced all the way back to the 1960s. Most American fans of the original show (that is, the pre-2005 Christopher Eccleston relaunch version) first learned of Doctor Who via PBS airings in the 1980s. But the full story of the most famous Time Lord's journey in America started years earlier.
Red White and Who, which will be released on August 21, 2017, is a full color, 704-page work with over 600 images. The book is currently available to pre-order (with free US shipping on all orders placed before August 21), but you can take a peak inside with the following gallery of exclusive images from the title:
