What Motivates Villain Killmonger in Black Panther
Michael B. Jordan, who stars as Erik Killmonger in Black Panther, spoke with IGN this weekend at San Diego Comic-Con about the motivations that fuel his villainous character in the upcoming Marvel movie.
"What I can say is that he definitely wants the throne," Jordan told IGN. "He's very strategic, thoughtful. He's very patient. Very well skilled, trained to a T. He works very hard, and he feels what he's doing is right."
For more on his role as Killmonger, including what sets the character apart from other Marvel villains and how he's similar to the X-Men villain Magneto, watch our full interview with Jordan below:
Why Skurge Betrays Thor for Hela in Thor: Ragnarok
The new trailer for Thor: Ragnarok that Marvel Studios debuted this weekend at San Diego Comic-Con offered a glimpse at Karl Urban's Skurge, who's seen allied with Cate Blanchett's Hela. IGN spoke with Urban about his role and why Skurge betrays Chris Hemsworth's Thor to side with the Asgardian goddess of death.
"When we find Skurge, he's operating the Bifrost because Heimdall is missing in action, and then pretty soon after that Hela shows up," Urban told IGN. "Skurge sees the writing on the wall and has to make a decision whether to die or join her, so his instincts of self-preservation take over."
Marvel’s Female Heroes Get a Boost From Legacy
Marvel wrapped up their time at SDCC with the "Women of Marvel" panel this afternoon. While there weren't any new books to be announced at the panel, the panelists (including Hulk writer Mariko Tamaki, The Mighty Captain Marvel writer Margaret Stohl, Generation X writer Christina Strain. Runaways writer Rainbow Rowell and Marvel's content development director Sana Amanat and producer Judy Stephens) made it clear that the upcoming Marvel Legacy relaunch will serve as a strong platform for further elevating these characters.
The panel started off with a tribute to the recently passed Flo Steinberg, an influential force at Marvel during its 1960's transformation. Amanat said that all future Women of Marvel panels will be dedicated to Steinberg.
Why a Spider-Man Sequel Is Kicking Off MCU Phase 4
We know little about what stories will make up Phase 4 of the Marvel Cinematic Universe after the events of the fourth Avengers movie in 2019, but we do know a Spider-Man: Homecoming sequel will be the movie to kick it off.
While doing press for Homecoming, Feige confirmed that Peter Parker will be the "person to hold your hand and lead you into the next incarnation of the MCU, in a grounded, realistic manner." When we had a chance to speak to Feige at San Diego Comic-Con, we asked him why Spidey was the best choice to kick off the new phase post-Infinity War. Watch the interview below:

You Have to Watch Thor: Ragnarok to Understand Avengers 3
One of the biggest questions coming out of Avengers: Infinity War's first footage is, "What the heck is Thor doing floating around in space?" IGN got a chance to catch up with Thor: Ragnarok star Chris Hemsworth at San Diego Comic-Con, where he confirmed the answer to that question will be revealed in the upcoming Thor movie.
"I think you'll have to watch our film first to understand what Avengers is about," he teased.
Watch our full interview with Hemsworth below:
Hemsworth also spoke to the experience of filming with characters like the Guardians of the Galaxy for the first time in Infinity War, saying, "We read the script for the first time and I think all of us had the same sort of excitement about who we're going to meet, who we're going to hang with, and a lot of those guys I hadn't even met in person let alone on screen, so it felt like a sort of fanboy experience."
How Thor: Ragnarok Pays Homage to Planet Hulk
There's a whole lot of Planet Hulk fun packed into the Thor: Ragnarok trailer that debuted at San Diego Comic-Con, but Taika Waititi explained to IGN why and how he decided to put his own spin on the classic story.
"I was just trying to inject my tone and sensibility into it, and then those guys who actually know the comics came in and were like, 'Let's just push it in this direction back here,'" Waititi told IGN. "Korg and Miek, who are two characters from Planet Hulk, there's that stuff.
Infinity War Director Explains Thanos’ More ‘Casual’ Costume
Thanos looks a bit different in Avengers: Infinity War than viewers have seen during his previous Marvel Cinematic Universe appearances (note: his kicks), and director Joe Russo told IGN that is representative of a philosophical shift for the MCU Big Bad in the upcoming movie.
has a more casual approach in this film, and it's very philosophical for him," explained Russo at San Diego Comic-Con. "It's part of his character definition. It's a spiritual journey for him to collect the Stones, and one with which he doesn't need armor. Once he starts acquiring the Stones, he doesn't need armor in the same way he did when he was a war lord. It's a very symbolic costume."
Dunkirk Rules the Weekend Box Office While Valerian Flops
Dunkirk had a strong opening weekend in domestic theaters, exceeding expectations with an estimated debut of $50.5 million.
While Christopher Nolan's World War II drama performed slightly better than the director's prior film, Interstellar, which opened to $47.5 million in 2014, Dunkirk will need to maintain its current momentum to make back its approximate $150 million production budget and be considered a success.
Meanwhile, Girls Trip bucked the current trend of R-rated comedy flops and enjoyed a strong second place opening, earning an estimated $30.4 million in its domestic debut.
How Can Marvel Studios Use the Skrulls?
Marvel Studios announced at San Diego Comic-Con 2017 that their upcoming Captain Marvel movie would introduce the villainous alien civilization known as the Skrulls to the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
The announcement was largely met with surprise and excitement by fans both online and in SDCC because, for a long time, it seemed that Marvel might not be able to use the Skrulls in the MCU. The Skrulls were introduced in the Fantastic Four comics and the screen rights to the Fantastic Four and to many of the villains and supporting characters who debuted in that series -- Galactus, Silver Surfer, Doctor Doom -- are held by 20th Century Fox, which also controls the X-Men movie rights.
