Everybody’s Golf Makes An Old Franchise Feel New Again
This month's IGN First is a bit different than usual. Rather than highlighting a single game -- we'll get back to that next month -- we're highlighting the Japanese game industry as a whole. We visited some of the biggest studios in Japan to focus on their games and creative processes. Check back all month for interviews, gameplay reveals, and more!
Everybody’s Golf has been around for a long time. Known until now as Hot Shots Golf in the U.S., Everybody’s Golf joins Gran Turismo as one of Sony’s longest-running franchises, with installments on every piece of PlayStation hardware dating back to the original PlayStation.
Ubisoft: Beyond Good & Evil 2 Had to be ‘Very, Very Big’
Ubisoft has shed a bit of light on the long wait for Beyond Good & Evil 2.
Speaking to IGN at E3, Ubisoft CEO Yves Guillemot and French studios managing director Xavier Poix explained that they didn’t want to reveal the game before it was ready because they knew it had to be something huge, and that creative director Michel Ancel had a very specific vision.
“We are ecstatic about the possibility to really come with something totally different from what was done before,” Guillemot told IGN. “Michel is really creating a new engine for that game, and his ambition is just, you know, it’s just high. I would say very high. So we think we are going to be able to create something that will be outstanding.”

Cars 3 Stars on Fan Theories About the Cars Universe
Lightning McQueen is back in Cars 3, but this time he truly seems to have met his match. The newest film in the Cars series finds Lightning sidelined thanks to a frightening crash that occurs when he tries, and fails, to beat the brash young racer named Jackson Storm. Lightning is determined to prove he still has what it takes though, and to face Jackson again – and triumph over him. But can he actually succeed?
With Cars 3 hitting theaters this weekend, I sat down with Owen Wilson (who returns as the voice of Lightning McQueen) and Armie Hammer (who plays Jackson Storm) to discuss the surprisingly deep places the film goes, the popularity the Cars franchise has with kids, and those very elaborate and amusing fan theories on how the Cars universe actually functions.
The DC Universe Is Being Invaded By Evil Batmen
DC's upcoming event comic Dark Nights: metal just got a lot bigger, as the company has revealed a series of seven one-shot specials tying into the core mini-series from writer Scott Snyder and artist Greg Capuulo. Each of these one-shots will star a twisted, evil version of Batman pulled from the "Dark Multiverse" introduced in Metal. And it appears each one is also patterned after one of the core members of the Justice League.
Check out the slideshow before for a look at Jason Fabok's cover art for each issue and to learn which creative teams will be involved.
Additionally, DC has revealed that several ongoing Rebirth titles will tie into the events of Metal this September. Teen Titans #12 (written by Benjamin Percy and drawn by Mirka Andolfo), Nightwing #29 (written by Tim Seeley and drawn by Paul Pelletier) and Suicide Squad #26 (written by Rob Williams and drawn by Stepjan Sejic) will all participate in a crossover called "Gotham Resistance," as these characters fight to defend Gotham from an army of villains driven mad by the influence of these seven evil Batmen.

Victorian Government to Boost Local Games Industry
The Victorian Government is seeking to strengthen the state’s reputation as Australia’s games development capital by announcing a new $654,000 investment in nine Victorian games studios.
The studios funded include Melbourne start-up Inn Between Worlds and Ghostbat Games. Two other supported projects – Putty Pals by Harmonious Games and Paperbark by Paper House – were born as university projects at Swinburne and RMIT and led to their creators establishing their own studios.
The Victorian Labor Government is also offering grants to help local developers exhibit their games at the upcoming PAX AUS, during Melbourne International Games Week 2017. Victorian developers accepted into PAX Rising can apply for a grant to help with the cost of registration and stand hire here.
First Look at Bathurst in Gran Turismo Sport
Gran Turismo Sport developer Polyphony Digital revealed the inclusion of Australia’s Mount Panorama circuit in GT Sport earlier this week (via a very brief glimpse of the track in a new trailer Sony debuted prior to its E3 presentation) but we now have a pair of new videos showcasing the track in full.
Mount Panorama, more commonly known as Bathurst, was previously featured in Gran Turismo 6.
Gran Turismo Sport will feature a total of 27 tracks across 15 locations, from real-world circuits to fictional racetracks. A complete list of tracks is not available at this stage but the roster so far includes Brands Hatch, Willow Springs, and the Nürburgring Nordschleife alongside Bathurst, plus several fantasy tracks.

Call of Cthulhu’s Twist on the Lovecraft RPG is Intriguing
"You have to become mad."
If there is one promise Cyanide Studio has for players interested in picking up their adaptation of Chaosium's pen-and-paper RPG Call of Cthulu, it's that you're not going to get out of this experience with your sanity. I got to sit through a presentation of the upcoming title during E3 2017, and was charmed by the way it brings both an H.P. Lovecraft-inspired world and the pen-and-paper experience to life.
You play as private investigator Edward Pierce in the early 1920s. As Pierce, you're investigating the death of famous artist Sarah Hawkins and her son and husband, after they died in a fire in their home on Darkwater Island. Like all Lovecraft stories, everything in Pierce's investigation is normal... until it's not. The more you investigate and find clues, the more that knowledge will affect your decisions later in the game. But as is promised by lead level designer Romain Wiart, Pierce losing his mind is inevitable by the end of your Call of Cthulu experience.
