New Matrix Movie Writer Implies It’s Not a Reboot
Warner Bros.' new Matrix movie won't be a reboot, according to the film's writer.
Zak Penn (The Incredible Hulk, Ready Player One) took to Twitter to briefly discuss his potential plan for a new movie in the seminal sci-fi franchise, where he confirmed he has no interest in doing a remake. Penn is especially against the idea of recasting Keanu Reeves' character Neo, and believes there's plenty of new stories to tell in the Matrix universe.
"Can't comment yet except to say that the words 'reboot' and 'remake' were from an article. Let's stop responding to inaccurate news," Penn tweeted out. "If I were going to recast Keanu Reeves, I would cast Keanu Reeves," he added. "How about just re-release the matrix? Don't reboot it, you can't do better. Do I want to see more stories set in the universe of the matrix? Yes. Because it's a brilliant idea that generates great stories."
Ridley Scott Wants Four More Alien Movies
In the event that Alien: Covenant is a success, Ridley Scott says he intends to make four more Alien films.
In an interview with Fandango, Scott was asked about his plans after Covenant, to which the director replied: "There will be another one before we kind of literally and logically, clockwise, back into the rear back head of
Alien."
When asked how these future films would fit into the overall timeline, Scott dropped the name "Awakening" when referencing a film set between Prometheus and Covenant. "It will go Prometheus, Awakening, Covenant... fairly integral where this colonization ship is on the way..." he said.
DC Wants to Fill The Batman Slot With Another Film
With The Batman delayed, DC and Warner Bros. are now reportedly looking to fill their empty 2018 slot with another DCEU film.
According to Variety's Justin Kroll, the studios are looking to fast-track one of five movies — The Flash, Dark Universe, Suicide Squad 2, Gotham City Sirens, or Green Lantern Corps. Reeves is still busy putting the final touches on the upcoming War for the Planet of the Apes, and word is the script for The Batman needs a complete overhaul.

The Matrix: 7 Directors Who Could Justify A Reboot
The WB is going to make a movie nobody seems to want, and yet if one of these directors were to enter The Matrix, we think you’d free your mind.
On Monday, news broke that Warner Bros. was going to reboot The Matrix. The overwhelming response? “Why?!”
Here are the directors we think would be up to that task (and we saved the best for last!):
When The Matrix arrived in 1999, it was a jaw-dropping achievement that instantly gave way to a cultural movement. Audiences everywhere gravitated towards the film’s unique blend of mind-bending action and thought-provoking science fiction.
I was 15 when I saw The Matrix, and I’ll never forget the feeling that overcame me as the end credits began to roll. It was that “I just witnessed something really special” feeling that few movies have the power to give you. My father and I discussed as we left the theater, how the film’s “Free Your Mind” mantra could be to this generation what “Use The Force” was for the previous one. The idea of a work of pure fiction and entertainment that could also challenge you to look at the world around you differently was exhilarating.
Star Wars Rebels Preview: Maul’s Search for Obi-Wan Nears its End
Star Wars Rebels is delivering a big moment not just for the show but for Star Wars as a whole this weekend, as Darth Maul (voiced by Sam Witwer) and his old enemy Obi-Wan Kenobi come face to face.
IGN has a special preview clip from the episode "Twin Suns" – an extended version of footage shown on last weekend’s Rebels Recon. The episode begins with Maul on Tatooine, where he (correctly) believes Obi-Wan is hiding. But with a vast desert to search through, the former Sith is feeling grim about the situation. Check out the clip below:
Voicing Obi-Wan in this episode is Stephen Stanton (who also plays both AP-5 and Tarkin on Rebels), doing a rather uncanny impression of Alec Guinness’ voice and cadence as the older Obi-Wan we met in the original Star Wars. Witwer, who has voiced Maul since his return on Star Wars: The Clone Wars – and is a huge Star Wars fan himself – noted how this episode brings so many different Star Wars elements together, telling IGN, “That was a fun thing, because when you hear a voice that sounds like Alec Guinness say ‘My old adversary,’ it just glues the prequels and The Clone Wars and the original trilogy together in a really satisfying way. I remember when Ahsoka started showing up on Rebels and Vader started showing up on Rebels, suddenly that becomes this incredible connective tissue, this thematic connective tissue between all these different pieces of Star Wars storytelling. Myself, being a fan, I think that’s really satisfying to get those connections.”
Sonic Forces Continues the Gameplay Tradition of Sonic Colors and Generations
Newly unveiled as Sonic Forces, Sega’s 2017 Sonic project aims to take what has worked best about Sonic’s recent stronger 3D outings — namely Sonic Colors and Sonic Generations — with a new level of visual polish the current generation of consoles can offer.
After watching a demo of Sonic Forces apocalyptic city level, I can say that Sega certainly seems on its way to nailing the latter. Though the iteration of Forces I saw was an alpha build, the cobblestone streets Sonic sped his way through looked beautiful, even as the world around him descended into chaos — a chaos that I found enjoyable to watch, though. You can see a bit of it in the brand new gameplay reveal:
Sniper Elite 4’s First DLC Pack Out Next Week
Some fresh Sniper Elite 4 content is coming next week.
First up is a new mini-campaign Deathstorm, which feature a new storyline set after the events of Sniper Elite 4. This add-on can be played single-player or with a friend.
“The Alsos Mission, an offshoot of the United States-led Manhattan Project famous for its research and development of nuclear weapons, needs Karl Fairburne to intercept a critical package the Nazis are bringing into the country,” writes Rebellion’s Tim Jones.
“In Part 1: Inception, Karl must infiltrate the Rocca sul Mare naval base in the chillier climes of northern Italy, targeted in a recent bombing run yet still under tremendous Nazi guard. Somewhere in this sprawling stronghold is the package codenamed ‘Deathstorm.’”
The Surge Has a Release Date
Deck 13’s action-RPG, The Surge will release on May 16 for Xbox One, PS4, and PC.
There’s also a new trailer which shows Warren smacking a machine to death with a futuristic hammer. And there’s a guy who looks a bit like Lex Luthor, complete with a yellow version of Lex’s iconic Superman-bashing suit.
From the same team responsible for Lords of the Fallen, The Surge will attempt to be something more than a Sci-Fi Dark Souls. Just last month, IGN caught up with Deck 13 head of game design Adam Hetenyi to chat about The Surge while also getting some hands-on time.
Superman Star Henry Cavill Joins Mission: Impossible 6
Henry Cavill, well known for playing Superman in Man of Steel and Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, will be taking on a role in the upcoming sixth instalment in the Mission: Impossible franchise.
Director Christopher McQuarrie, who has also written the script for the sixth film, "asked" Cavill to join the cast on Instagram last night.
The accompanying caption said: "Say @henrycavill. Had a thought. Curious if you're interested in a role in the 6th installment of Mission: Impossible. No pressure."
After Cavill accepted, McQuarrie followed up with some caveats: "Must enjoy extreme heights, high speeds, motor vehicles of all varieties (especially aircraft), practical stunts, firearms, and sporadic exposition. All good?"
