Netflix Debuts Trailer for New Movie iBoy
Ahead of its debut later this month, Netflix has released the official trailer for iBoy, its new original film starring Bill Milner and Game of Thrones actress Maisie Williams.
Check out the trailer below for a sneak peek at the upcoming sci-fi drama from director Adam Randall.
The film centers around a teenage boy named Tom (Milner) who develops supernatural abilities after a run-in with some thugs—who also hurt his friend Lucy (Williams)—results in pieces of his broken smartphone getting lodged into his brain. After recovering from the encounter, Tom sets out on a quest for revenge.
In addition to Milner and Willaims, the film's cast includes Miranda Richardson and Rory Kinnear. iBoy makes its Netflix-exclusive worldwide debut on January 27. In the meantime, here's a look at all the new titles heading to Netflix this month.
Sign Up Now to Beta Test the Next Big PS4 Update
Testers can sign up now and join the next PlayStation 4 system software beta program.
According to a brief update on the official PS Blog, it's "nearly time for another major system software update for PS4". Consequently, Sony is looking for assistance beta-testing new features and improvements before the update goes live.
Volunteers - who must be aged 18 years or older - can sign up from now until the beta kicks off, which is expected to be in early February.
"If you’re part of the program, you’ll receive an email with instructions on downloading the beta version of the next system software," states Sony. "In order to sign up, you’ll need a PS4 with an internet connection, and access to a Master Account. And remember — you can roll back to the previous system software at any time."
Gears of War Creators Sued Over the Cole Train
Former footballer player and wrestler Lenwood Hamilton is suing the creators of Gears of War, claiming the company stole his likeness and nickname "Cole Train" for Gears of War.
This news comes via TMZ, and although the report doesn't specify which company is being sued, we can assume it is either Epic or Microsoft.
Hamilton also claims to be acquainted with Lester Speight, voice of Augustus Cole (Cole Train) in Gears of War, from when they were wrestlers together in Soul City Wrestling. Hamilton says he discussed creating the Cole Train character for a video game with Speight, and is suing him also.
Sony Closes MediEvil, RIGS Developer Guerrilla Games UK
Sony will close Guerrilla Games' UK studio in Cambridge.
In a report by GamesIndustry.biz, Sony confirmed that while other studios remain unaffected, all employees at the Cambridge branch will be laid off, although "where possible...
try to reallocate people onto other projects".
Sony claims the closure of the 19 year old studio is the result of "a review of all current PlayStation projects and resources", and that while "regrettable", the changes to European studios was necessary "in order to deliver on
strategic objectives".
While the studio's most recent work includes PlayStation VR title RIGS: Mechanized Combat League, other games in its portfolio include the MediEvil series and PS Vita shooter Killzone Mercenary.
Half-Life 3 Will Likely Never Be Released, Says Report
An alleged Valve insider has said that Half-Life 3 and the long-awaited Half-Life 2: Episode Three have both been started and scrapped multiple times, and will likely never see release.
GameInformer has published a lengthy interview with the insider (with a warning that, while it trusted the source, it could not verify their claims with another Valve employee), who says that, "There is no such thing as Half-Life 3. Valve has never announced a Half-Life 3."
The source explains that due to Valve's approach to employee creativity, many groups of developers have begun projects that could have become a new Half-Life project, but never did - pointing out that there were three distinct versions of Half-Life 2 ready to produce before the final version was approved.

Another Time Travel Show? Wait, This One’s a Comedy!
There are plenty of time travel shows on television these days, but only one of them has turned a receptacle for smelly gym clothes into a vehicle to travel through time. Yes, on FOX's upcoming comedy Making History, the time machine that transports Adam Pally (Happy Endings, Iron Man 3) through hundreds of years of world history is a simple duffel bag.
Creator Julius Sharpe -- who executive producers alongside The LEGO Movie/The Last Man on Earth's Phil Lord and Chris Miller -- told reporters at the Television Critics Association winter press tour that aside from the obvious comedy that comes from full-grown adults zipping themselves into a gym bag to travel through time, he chose a simple object mostly because "I didn't want to spend all my time at work dealing with some kind of big orb, so I thought what could be the easiest thing production-wise?"

Hearthstone’s Small-Time Buccaneer is the Nerfed Version!
Hearthstone’s newest expansion, Mean Streets of Gadgetzan, has been in the wild for well over a month now, so I figured it was a good time to catch up with senior designer Mike Donais for a chat. We covered a lot of stuff - so much, in fact, that I’ve split the interview into two parts. This piece is centred on the meta and the state of the game, while the second – much longer – piece is design-focused: creating the Jade mechanic, the thought processes behind the Reno cards, the ideas that didn't make it into the set etc. It’ll be live tomorrow.
IGN: How happy are you guys with the meta right now?
