Celebrating the Women of Red Dead Redemption

An exploration of masculinity lies at the core of the stories told within Rockstar’s beautifully crafted open-worlds. What does it mean to have it? What does it mean to want it? What does it mean to lose it? Women are more often than not extras and foils in these stories, or, in the case of GTA 5, easy punchlines (“I am woman, hear me roar!” chants Franklin’s pointedly middle-aged aunt)."

But not in Red Dead Redemption. Unlike GTA, which is played entirely through the lens of satire, Red Dead’s treatment of its characters is uncharacteristically sincere. While it’s still very much a story of men - and John Marston in particular - Red Dead’s women are imbued with an underappreciated - and unexpected - spark, wit, and humanity.

Warning: Full spoilers for Black Sails: Season 3 below.

Black Sails: The Complete Third Season arrives on Blu-ray, DVD and Digital HD this Tuesday, giving fans the chance to delve into a huge year for the epic pirate series that found characters transforming in monumental ways.

I recently spoke to Hannah New about what occurred with her character Eleanor Guthrie in Season 3, as Eleanor found herself now opposing the very pirates she’d once lived and worked alongside in Nassau - particularly Charles Vane (Zach McGowan), her former lover turned bitter enemy.

New discussed Eleanor’s role in Vane’s demise, fan reaction to that turn of events, her evolving dynamic with another ex-lover, Max (Jessica Parker Kennedy), and more about what motivates Eleanor and why she’s made the choices she's made – along with what’s in store next year, when Black Sails returns for its fourth and final season.

PS4 Pro 4K Video Round-Up

The PS4 Pro is finally here and we've put it through its paces. While not all games are supported, the ones that are have noticeably improved graphics that really do need to be seen to be believed.

We've captured quite a bit of gameplay from the PS4 Pro, so if you're on a 4K TV or UHD-enabled monitor, you're going to want to make sure you check these out in their native resolution. If you don't have a 4K-enabled display, read our PS4 Pro review to get an idea of whether or not it's worth your time and money.

One of the last games for the PS3 pushed the system to its limits and was arguably the best looking game of last generation. The PS4 remaster brought that realism into the current gen, and on the PS4 Pro, it runs at 60fps in 4K.

The Flash: Alchemy Is Key for Wally West’s Kid Flash

The Kid Flash story seems to be reaching a head in The Flash's next episode, "Shade."

Wally West wants to be Kid Flash. Dr. Alchemy has the ability to restore peoples' Flashpoint abilities. And based on the promo for Tuesday's episode, Alchemy is going to take advantage of Wally's desire in a terrifying way.

the biggest, scariest presence we've had on the show," Grant Gustin told IGN on a visit to the show's set. "There's something about Alchemy that we've never had. He's not a speedster, so he's just going to come in at everybody from different angles, using tactics that we haven't seen yet. He's scarier for a lot of psychological reasons, that others haven't had."
