Halo 5 has Highest Number of Active Players Since Halo 3
Halo 5: Guardians has outstripped every Halo game since 2007 in monthly active users - even before offering the full game as a free trial.
Halo community manager Andy Dudynsky, known on Reddit as bravo343, revealed the fact when responding to a thread about Halo's position in the Xbox One most-played charts.
"This isn't something we've talked about yet," he said, "but I am rather happy to share that even before the free play period, Halo 5 has had the highest monthly active players for a Halo title since Halo 3."
12 Fantastic Overwatch Cosplay
Though Anime Expo is dominated by anime, there still is a large games presence at the convention. The most notable one was easily Blizzard's Overwatch. There was a ton of Overwatch fan art in Anime Expo's Artist Alley, and the Overwatch Cosplay meetup was so huge that the participants had to crowd into the meeting space.
Below is a gallery of some of the awesome Overwatch cosplay at Anime Expo, and a few group shots of cosplayers.
There was a ton of other great cosplay at Anime Expo, including JoJo's Bizarre Adventure and One Punch Man. If you didn't make it out to Anime Expo, be sure to check out our photo tour of the 9 coolest booths.
Most Red Dead Redemption DLC Currently Free on Xbox One
After making the much-requested game backwards compatible today, Rockstar has discounted most of Red Dead Redemption's DLC to free on Xbox One.
The Legends and Killers, Liars and Cheats and Outlaws to the End DLC packs come at no cost, as do the Myths and Mavericks and Hunting and Trading expansions.
Not included is the more sizable Undead Nightmare DLC, nor are the smaller cosmetic downloads; War Horse, Golden Guns and Deadly Assassin will all set you back a dollar.
The main game is currently discounted to $10.79 (£8.74) or $7.49 (£6.24) for Xbox Live Gold members, while Undead Nightmare comes in at $9.99 (£6.75).
If you're in the UK, and want to be super-efficient, buying the Undead Nightmare collection - which bundles the main game and the expansion - gets you the lot for £13.49 (the US version doesn't have the same discount, sorry).
Nintendo Shares Rise 10 Percent Thanks to Pokemon Go
Nintendo's share prices are benefiting from the release of new mobile game Pokemon Go.
According to Reuters, shares in Nintendo jumped 10 percent overnight, reaching their highest level in more than two months. Nintendo currently has a market value of $23 billion.
This is all despite Nintendo having not much to do with the augmented reality game where you can catch Pokemon out in the real world. Pokemon Go is from Niantic and The Pokemon Company, however Nintendo does own a stake in each of them.
The game, which launched yesterday in Australia, New Zealand, and the United States, is free, however there are microtransactions allowing you to buy extra items. There's no word yet on when it will be coming to other territories, but you can expect it soon.
The LEGO Movie Sequel Pushed to 2019
Warner Bros.' The LEGO Movie 2 has been delayed until 2019.
The LEGO Movie 2 is now set for February 8, 2019. The other two LEGO movies from Warner Bros.—LEGO Batman and LEGO Ninjago—will still be released on February 10, 2017 and September 22, 2017, respectively.
Additionally, BoJack Horseman creator Raphael Bob-Waksberg has been hired to re-write The LEGO Movie 2's script. Phil Lord and Christopher Lord, who directed the first film, wrote the first draft of the script, Variety reported. Being busy at work on the Star Wars Han Solo spinoff film, the studio "opted to get a fresh take on the script."
Ubisoft: Assassin’s Creed Movie Won’t Earn Much Money
Ubisoft doesn't expect to make a lot of money from its upcoming Assassin's Creed film, but instead sees it as a way to increase awareness of the brand.
"We are not going to earn a lot of money from it," Ubisoft’s European head Alain Corre told MCV.
Instead of seeing the film as a profit generator, Ubisoft is looking at Assassin's Creed: The Movie as an opportunity to promote its popular video game franchise, with Corre noting that "it is a lot more a marketing thing" and "also good for the image of the brand."
While the studio does expect to make "some money," that isn't the focus. Instead, the film's "purpose is to bring Assassin’s Creed to more people" and "put this franchise in front of a lot more people who, maybe, will then pick up future Assassin’s Creed games."
Bethesda 3D Prints a Real Version of DOOM’s B.F.G.
Bethesda has 3D printed a life size replica of the B.F.G. from DOOM, and given it away to a talented fan.
The company ran a competition for fans to create their own paint job for the iconic weapon, and the winner, John Allen, got the B.F.G. to keep.
The replica itself was created and crafted by, ironically, MyMiniFactory. Instead of working from reference images like normal, id Software shared in-game files with the designers so the gun would be as accurate as possible.
To create such a gun was a mammoth task. It took Kirby Downey, lead designer at MyMiniFactory 35 hours to design each piece of the weapon, 70 in total, and then it took 1,000 hours to actually 3D print it all.
