IGN UK Podcast #340: We Go-Poke a Pokemon Noob
After days of rumours, whispering behind the bike sheds at break, and pained attempts to summon the game early by sacrificing old SNES's at crossroads, Pokemon Go has finally landed in the UK.
Rory and Alysia have been collared and dragged away from the streets of London (where they were accosting locals in an attempt to divine the location of a Venomoth) to record the latest podcast. Dale wandered into the studio willingly, because he's never played a Pokemon game in his life and is very confused by the whole thing.
So in this latest episode, we talk about Pokemon Go, subject Dale to an unfair Pokemon-themed quiz, and make Pokemon references throughout the rest of the show (even when we're talking about things like the PlayStation Neo.)
Brand New Guardians 2 Art Features Mantis, Baby Groot
A new piece of Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 concept art has arrived, and it showcases new team-member Mantis.
Entertainment Weekly debuted the art, which sees the Guardians that we know and love in an action shot - including baby Groot.
Among them is Mantis, a Marvel character new to the MCU portrayed by Pom Klementieff (seen in Spike Lee's Old Boy), and described by executive producer Jonathan Schwartz as something of a social newbie in the film. "She has never really experienced social interaction,” said Schwartz. “Everything she learns about dealing with people, she learns from the Guardians of the Galaxy, which is a very weird group to learn your social intricacies from.”
12 Shows That Were Overlooked by the Emmys
Though the Emmys Awards have honored many of television's finest shows - like Breaking Bad, Mad Men, ER, The West Wing, and more (even giving an Outstanding Drama Series trophy to Game of Thrones in 2015!) - there have been numerous times when glaring snubs have been more notable than the actual nominations and winners.
Genre shows tend to get mostly ignored completely in favor of the more traditional cop/doctor/lawyer blueprint while other times Emmy voters just get caught in a loop where the same shows keep getting nominated over and over - or even winning over and over as with Modern Family and Frasier's respective five-year streaks taking home the Outstanding Comedy Series prize.
Niantic Taking Requests for Pokemon Go PokeStops
If Pokemon Go's current offering of PokeStops and Pokemon Gyms isn't satisfying your quest to be the very best like no one ever was, developer Niantic Labs is open to suggestions for new spots to highlight in the app.
Niantic now has forms available for players to request new Gym and PokeStop locations. The real-world landmarks chosen as Gyms and PokeStops were originally based on the data collected for Niantic's Ingress.
The sites are intended to be safe and public areas with some sort of interesting quality, whether its a piece of art or local business. While the app is filled with locations in major cities, some areas offer far fewer PokeStops for players.
Those interested in requesting locations, like players in less populous or more rural areas, will have to head over to Niantic's Pokemon Go support form. There, a player can input the location, along with a few other details, and send it off to the developer for consideration.
T-Mobile Offering Year of Free Data to Pokemon Go Players
As a special promotion for Pokemon Go players, T-Mobile has announced it will provide customers with free, unlimited data when playing Niantic Labs' massively popular new mobile game for an entire year.
The offer will be available for a limited time to both new and existing T-Mobile users in the United States. In order to take advantage of the promotion, you'll need to download the T-Mobie Tuesdays app and claim the gift sometime between July 19 and August 9. After redeeming the offer, you'll be able to play Pokemon Go without using up your data up through August 2017.
How The Dark Tower Movie Will Differ From King’s Books
The Dark Tower movie won't be a straight adaptation of Stephen King's beloved series of books, as director Nikolaj Arcel has confirmed the film will be missing two key characters and serve as more a sequel than a retelling of King's original work.
Arcel and King recently spoke to EW about the upcoming film, revealing that Eddie and Susannah won't be in the film. The director noted the pair don't join the series until the second book, and he wants to convey the solitary nature of the Gunslinger's journey before adding these characters into the mix.
Nintendo Offers More Details on the NES Classic
A representative for Nintendo told IGN more details about the upcoming Nintendo Entertainment System: NES Classic Edition console the company plans to sell this holiday.
The NES Classic Edition is a standalone device that will not connect to the internet, external storage devices, or use physical media of any kind.
The system comes included with 30 games, including popular classic games like Super Mario Bros. and The Legend of Zelda, but users will not be able to expand the library with more games from Nintendo’s Virtual Console service, a feature you can find on Wii U and 3DS.
We asked if the console will support Nintendo Account or My Nintendo but were told the company has nothing to announce at this time. We also asked for the dimensions of the new console, but Nintendo had no comment on the system’s technical specifications at this time as well.
Game of Thrones Cast Surprised by Emmy nominations
Game of Thrones is once again dominating the Emmy Awards nominations. Season 6 of the HBO series racked up 23 nominations total, including Outstanding Drama Series and six acting nominations.
A handful of new Game of Thrones faces have been added into the nomination pool this year. In addition to repeat nominees Peter Dinklage, Lena Headey and Emilia Clarke, Kit Harington and Maisie Williams were both nominated for supporting actor for the first time. Max Von Sydow also was nominated for guest actor.
Kit Harrington expressed surprise in his released statement, "It is a serious understatement to say that I am somewhat stunned. For my work on Game of Thrones to be recognized in this way is an emotional moment for me. I could not be more humbled."
