Battleborn Sales ‘Tracking Just Ahead’ of Borderlands 1

Borderlands developer Gearbox Software is "cautiously optimistic" about newly released Battleborn's future, creative director Randy Varnell said.

The developer launched Battleborn on May 3 on PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC—and according to Varnell, it's "tracking just ahead" of the first Borderlands game.

"Ultimately, Borderlands

extremely successful new game for us," Varnell said during a Twitch livestream (as reported by Videogamer), "and even Borderlands 1 went on to sell, I think, almost 7, 8 million units in its lifetime."

Sid Meier’s Civilization 6 Announced

Civilization VI will be released on October 21 for PC, Firaxis Games announced today.

Civilization V—the last entry in the main series—launched in 2010 to huge success. While the core game will remain largely the same, Civilization VI will introduce "new ways to engage" with the world.

Cities are now able to "physically expand across the map," meaning they'll take up multiple tiles instead of just one. Location for cities is also more important in Civilization VI.

Active research for technology and culture will boost a civilization's "progress through history." Interactions with other civilizations will now be now dynamic, allowing for changes as the game progresses.

Sherlock Holmes Brings More Style, Substance With Devil’s Daughter

There are few characters as well-known across the world than Sherlock Holmes. When I was a child, I honestly thought that he was a real person. Everyone has heard of Sherlock Holmes at some point in their life, whether it be through film, TV show, book, video game, or something else. For a character like that, a character that’s so well known his name itself is synonymous with being smart, it can be hard to reinvent him or come up with truly unique ways to tell his story in a way that’s both fresh and engaging. That difficulty with innovation is no more clear than it is in the case of Sherlock Holmes: The Devil’s Daughter, the latest entry in the long-running investigation series from Frogwares.

The Scenes That Were Too Dark For Deadpool

As edgy and R-rated as Deadpool was, it seems there’s some material that was too dark to make it into the theatrical cut.

With the Blu-ray/DVD hitting US shelves this week, we sat down with the film’s director Tim Miller, producer Simon Kinberg, writers Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick, and star Ed Skrein to find out about the deleted and heavily cut scenes, plus a joke that was never even shot.

“There was a sequence in the movie when Wade gets cancer” explains Kinberg. “Where he and Vanessa go on what they jokingly, darkly call the cancer world tour, to try to find a cure for it. And they end up in sort of their darkest moment in this shitty clinic in Guadalajara with a doctor who is a charlatan. Wade realises that and ends up in a very brutal and dramatic and cool way killing him and he and Vanessa split up in that moment of Wade realising that he is in some ways a monster who can't be with this woman.”

EA to Release a New, Unannounced IP Next Year

EA has teased the existence of an unannounced game which will be released next year.

According to Gamespot, EA CFO Blake Jorgensen said "we do have a new IP coming next year. We haven't yet announced it, but it's something that you'll see probably coming up soon."

"Soon" could be referring to E3, which is only a month away. EA has opted not to go with a traditional press conference or booth on the E3 show floor this year, instead opting for a new EA Play event. We could be hearing something about this new IP there.

Beautiful New Shiness: The Lightning Kingdom Screenshots Revealed

A handful of new screenshots from upcoming action-RPG Shiness: The Lightning Kingdom have been revealed.

Looking like a cross between Dragon Quest and Ni No Kuni, the new screens show off some of the environments players will be exploring in the game.

We first learned about Shiness: The Lightning Kingdom back in 2014, where we described it as "Zelda action meets kung-fu combat."

The game comes from French studio Enigami, and it takes place on the planet Mahera. Players will control Chado and his four companions, taking on quests and engaging in dynamic combat which mixes magic with fighting game mechanics.

Is Spider-Man: Dead No More a Sequel to This Controversial Story?

While all eyes are on Civil War II at the moment, Marvel has another major comic book storyline cooking that promises to shake up Spider-Man's world in a big way. "Dead No More" is writer Dan Slott's latest Spidey epic, following a conflict between the hero and a mysterious villain who apparently has the power to raise the dead. If the "Dead No More" teasers are believed, everyone from Gwen Stacy to Doctor Octopus to Uncle Ben himself could soon return to the land of the living.

However, we're not convinced this story will be as straightforward as it seems. We think "Dead No More" could actually be a follow-up to the highly controversial "One More Day" storyline. Sound crazy? Scroll down to see our reasoning for why Peter Parker might be facing a very literal deal with the devil this year.

Rumor: Lionhead Closed Because Microsoft Wouldn’t Sell Fable

Rumours are claiming Microsoft turned down "several potential buyers" for Lionhead Studios before it was closed down last month.

Kotaku UK claims multiple sources told the website that "some of the biggest names in video game publishing" wrote letters of intent (the documents used to signal a serious desire to purchase a company) regarding acquiring the now-shuttered game studio.

According to one source, the complication came when it came to IP - Microsoft would not sell the rights to the Fable series along with the developer that created it. The source said: "90% of the people interested just walked away at that point," despite bids of hundreds of millions of pounds.
