Marvel and Fox Team-Up For Two X-Men TV Series

In a notable development for comic book adaptations -- given the turbulent history between Marvel and Fox regarding the X-Men-related characters Fox has long had the film rights to -- Marvel and Fox have announced they are teaming up for two different TV series based on X-Men characters.

First up, for the FOX network, is Hellfire. Set in the 1960s, the potential series centers on the Hellfire Club – and a young Special Agent who learns that “a power-hungry woman with extraordinary abilities is working with a clandestine society of millionaires to take over the world.”

X-Men movie producers Lauren Shuler Donner, Bryan Singer and Simon Kinberg will team with Marvel TV’s Jeph Loeb and Jim Chory and 24 alumni Evan Katz and Manny Coto to executive produce. The pilot is being written by Patrick McKay and JD Payne.

We’d heard recently that this move was in the works, but this is now confirmation that a long hoped-for modern match-up between Kong and Godzilla will happen. Before they join the Giant Monster Avengers or something, anyway.

“All-powerful monsters become towering heroes for a new generation, revealing a mythology that brings together Godzilla and Legendary’s King Kong in an ecosystem of other giant super-species, both classic and new,” says a press release from the companies. “Monarch, the human organization that uncovered Godzilla in the 2014 film, will expand their mission across multiple releases.”
