Former Writer Returns to BioWare Austin

Drew Karpyshyn has returned to BioWare Austin.

Via his blog, Karpyshyn explains he originally left BioWare to focus on his series of novels - titled Chaos Born - and now that the trilogy is completed, he’s come back to work on Star Wars The Old Republic (SWTOR).

“Working at BioWare was a challenging but very rewarding job, and it’s good to be back as part of the team,” writes Karpyshyn. “The thing I missed most about BioWare was the amazing people I got to work with, and luckily for me many of them are still there! I suspect a lot of folks are going to wonder if this means BioWare is about to announce a new project tied to my return. The short answer: no. I originally came to the Austin studio many years ago to work on SWTOR and – at least for now – that’s what I’m focusing on again.”

Buzz Pluto’s Atmosphere in This Low Altitude Flyover

A research scientist has created a simulated flyover of Pluto, giving you an idea of what it’s like to fly through the atmosphere of the once mysterious dwarf planet at low altitude.

The ariel visualization was created by rendering a mosaic of images captured by NASA’s New Horizons spacecraft and the Long Range Reconnaissance Imager on a sphere. The mosaic of the dwarf planet was stitched together by the NASA New Horizons team.

The flyover begins with the mountains region informally named Norgay Montes at a height of about 120 miles (200 kilometers) and heads up north over Sputnik Planum and Cthulhu Regio. The simulation ascends to a height of about 150 miles (240 kilometers) as it turns to the east and finally rises to more than 1,500 miles (2,500 kilometers).
