NASA Invents Wi-Fi Chip That Requires Virtually No Battery Power

NASA has invented a new chip for mobiles that could soon save you a ton of battery power.

Popular Science reports that the chip, created by NASA's Adrian Tang and UCLA's M.C. Frank Chang, runs on 100 times less energy than the receivers we use in mobiles today. It works by reflecting the wi-fi signal from a special router rather than emitting its own signal. The router does nearly all the work, allowing the chip to run on a very small amount of energy.

What's more is that wi-fi speed is not significantly affected by the new chip. The researchers have been able to reach speeds of 40MB/s using the new technology.
