343 on Why Halo 5 Has No Split-Screen Support in Any Mode

343 Industries has elaborated on why it decided to “sacrifice” split-screen support from Halo 5: Guardians, explaining the “difficult” decision in a post on Halo Waypoint.

“The decision to remove split-screen support from Halo 5: Guardians was one of the most difficult ones we’ve ever had to make as a studio,” wrote 343’s studio head Josh Holmes. “We know that for many of our fans, Halo has meant playing together with friends in the same room. We all have great memories of past Halo split-screen multiplayer matches.”

Holmes explained the “tough” choice was made due to the team’s desire “for scale, fidelity and focus.”

Banshee to End with Season 4

When Cinemax renewed Banshee for an eight-episode Season 4 - two episodes less than the usual 10 - fans wondered if it signaled the end. Well, that plus the fact that Banshee EP/Showrunner Greg Yaitanes was also developing a new series for Cinemax called Quarry - and that he'd be directing all eight episodes of its first season.

Now TVLine.com has learned that Banshee is in fact ending with Season 4 - though still unconfirmed by Cinemax at this point.

Director Talks New Spidey

Jon Watts, the director set to helm Marvel and Sony's upcoming Spider-Man reboot, believes the recently cast Tom Holland will be "perfect" for the role of the web-slinging hero.

"He can be a real high school student," Watts told EW. "That’s why people love Spider-Man. He’s the most grounded, relatable of superheroes. And Tom can really do that. He captures that. And he can do a standing back-flip. He’s perfect."

Holland will appear as Spidey before the standalone film in Captain America: Civil War, requiring a collaborative process within the Marvel film universe that Watts only had good things to say about.

Will the New Doom Feel Like Old Doom?

Id's upcoming Doom uses some game mechanics usually associated with older shooters: Health doesn't regenerate, you don't need to reload, and your movement speed is incredibly high.

But in other ways, Doom feels more contemporary. It uses loadouts in multiplayer, and you can mantle to move through the environment, for example.

At QuakeCon, I spoke with Marty Stratton, the Executive Producer on Doom, about how his team is blending old and new. It turns out the answer isn't so simple.

"Ultimately, I don’t think it’s about old and new," Stratton said. "It’s about what’s fun and what’s Doom. We started early on with trying to figure out the game’s identity. Not what is 'old Doom,' but what is Doom? How does it make us feel? What do we want from a Doom experience? When we boil it down, are the things we’re doing feeding into that?"

Pine Signs on to Wonder Woman

Warner Bros. appears to have found Wonder Woman’s love interest in the upcoming DC movie.

The Wrap reports Star Trek's Chris Pine has closed on a deal to star as Steve Trevor in Wonder Woman, with Gal Gadot of course playing the titular role. According to sources, Pine signed a multi-picture deal, including sequel options.

In the comic books, U.S. Army intelligence officer Steve Trevor crashes a plane on Paradise Island, Princess Diana's home. She cares for him, follows him home, and eventually becomes Wonder Woman.

Pine was previously rumored to be up for the role of Steve Trevor and was most recently rumored to be in the running to star as Hal Jordan in the Green Lantern Corps movie. It would seem that is no longer the case.

Nosferatu Remake in the Works

A remake of the silent horror film Nosferatu is in the works at Studio 8.

Deadline reports the currently untitled remake of the 1922 classic will be written and directed by Robert Eggers. Eggers wrote and directed The Witch, which earned him the directing award at the Sundance Film Festival earlier this year. Jay Van Hoy and Lars Knudsen’s production company, Parts and Labor, will produce the film.

This wouldn't be the first time Nosferatu was remade; Werner Herzog's Nosferatu the Vampyre was released in 1979.

This Underwear Will Absorb Your Farts

A company is now selling "flatulence filtering" underwear - that is, underwear that will absorb your farts.

Shreddies underwear has been around for awhile, but today we've learned of the odor-stopping wonder thanks to Geek.com. Shreddies are made special by their "Zorflex" activated carbon panels, which trap and neutralise the scent of a fart. (Alas, the sound will remain.)
