TV Shows We’re Excited for at Comic-Con This Year
The Dead will walk again… in San Diego, that is, as Comic-Con returns once again this July 9-12. Not just that, but so will the superheroes, the denizens of Westeros, and so many of our other favorite TV characters.
TV has become an increasingly big part of the con even as the movie studios have started to ease off with their panel presentations. And of course, IGN will be on site covering it all (plus the hottest movies, comics and games news as well). That said, we’re keeping this list of shows we’re most excited for down to five, but we’ve also fudged it just a bit by combining a few program events where they make sense.
Here are the five TV shows panels we are most excited for at this year’s Comic-Con!
BvS: Bruce Wayne’s Reason for Targeting the Man of Steel
Man of Steel director Zack Snyder has spoken out about his film's very controversial ending, noting that its consequences will be a major factor in Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice.
"I was surprised because that’s the thesis of Superman for me, that you can’t just have superheroes knock around and have there be no consequences," Snyder told EW when asked about the movie's destruction-heavy conclusion.
According to Snyder, the consequences of that ending will be a key piece of the story in Dawn of Justice, and will serve as part of Batman's motivation to take down the Man of Steel.
Vixen Animated Series Voice Cast Revealed
DC Comics' Vixen is getting her own animated series, and we finally know who will be providing her voice.
Megalyn Echikunwoke of The Following will lend her vocal talents to the magic-imbued heroine for a short six-episode series set to air on the CW's online platform CW Seed.
The Mary Sue reports the animated series will take place in the same universe as television's Arrow and The Flash, and Vixen will be accompanied by cameos of the key characters from the live-action series, including Stephen Amell, Grant Gustin, Emily Bett Rickards, and Carlos Valdes.
Minecraft’s Getting Loads of New Features
Mojang has detailed a host of new features coming to Minecraft.
During the Upcoming Features panel at Minecon 2015, Mojang spoke about several key areas the team aims to improve or add to. One of the big nuggets of info is the introduction of dual wielding. According to Mojang, players will be able to equip a second item in their left-hand, or, if the player happens to be left-handed, they’ll be able to use their leftie as their main-hand while dual wielding in the other.
A few examples were shown to elucidate how helpful dual wielding could be. One example sees the player holding a pickaxe in one hand and a stack of torches in the other, something that’s sure to be useful when digging out long, darkened corridors.
Mega Man Legends Devs Announce Red Ash, Launch Kickstarter
After a brief teaser released earlier this week, the development team at Comcept has revealed exactly what they're working on with Red Ash: The Indelible Legend.
A third-person action RPG, Keiji Inafune and his team at Comcept have partnered with Studio 4℃ to create a universe that pays homage to both Japanese anime and classic Japanese game design, all while seeking to be a sort of spiritual successor to the Mega Man Legends series.
Red Ash takes place in a world where humans are almost extinct as a result of a large-scale robot world war. Class structure has been rigidly divided into the haves and the have-nots, and many of the surviving humans hunt now-feral robots for their Lost Technology. The story of Red Ash: Indelible Legend focuses on Beck, Tyger, Call, and Gofer, four characters who make their livelihood by obtaining this same Lost Technology.
Fan Builds Massive Metroid Prime Boss Fight Model Out of LEGO
A Metroid fan has built an impressive re-creation of the Meta Ridley boss battle in Metroid Prime.
Built entirely out of LEGO bricks, the model spans five feet in length and features Samus, Meta Ridley (complete with a weak target point), and the highly-detailed and cracked floor of the Chozo Artifact Temple.
Jared Rosenblitt constructed the model, explaining in an interview with Beyond the Brick (via Kotaku) that he actually hadn't completely finished it and plans to build a second part to go along with it.
What’s Your Favorite ‘American’ Movie?
Happy Independence Day, stateside IGN readers! In honor of the Fourth of July, we want to know: What is your favorite movie with "American" in its title? Yes, "American" not "America" so sorry Captain America, Team America: World Police, Coming to America, and Beavis and Butt-head Do America.
When you're done stuffing your face with barbecue and (quite possibly adult) beverages, be sure to cast your vote in the poll below and then sound off in the Comments about why you voted for the movie that you did.
What It’s Really like to Play Minecraft on HoloLens
Reality is no longer set in stone. Wiith Oculus and Morpheus both offering the means to escape into new worlds, virtual reality is a tangible future. Alongside them is Microsoft’s HoloLens. While it might look similar in so much it involves a headset, in truth it offers a very different but no less enticing fantasy. Importantly, the world isn't shut out by HoloLens, it becomes a digital playground and integral to experience.
If you missed it, above is the full HoloLens Minecraft demo from E3.
Although officially announced earlier in the year, it was the Minecraft demo at Microsoft’s E3 press conference this summer which brought HoloLens to life. We saw a Minecraft world emerge from a regular table. We saw it exist and be manipulated in three-dimensional space right before our eyes (you know what I mean). And it looked like the future.
Squad’s Robbie Celebrates Birthday With Harley Cake
Harley Quinn actress Margot Robbie celebrated her birthday on the Suicide Squad set Friday, fully dressed as her character.
Additionally, she had a massive cake themed after the iconic supervillain and adorned with edible comic book decor.
Both Warner Bros. and Robbie posted the following image of the festivities on their respective Instagram accounts, saying, "Harley's cake - thank you squad!"
Suicide Squad is set for release sometime next year and boasts a sizable cast of beloved villains from the DC Comics universe.
