Xbox One Reportedly Getting TV DVR Later This Year
Rumor has it Xbox One users could be getting TV recording functionality later in the year.
Microsoft blogger Paul Thurrott reports on his site that sources close to him claim that with the exclusion of Windows Media Center from the upcoming Windows 10, TV DVR capabilities will be coming to the Xbox One.
“Of course, many Media Center fans actually use the product to record and watch TV shows via Media Center PCs in the living room,” Thurrott said. “Microsoft’s solution for this need will apparently be the Xbox One, though the console currently only provides live TV watching, but not recording.”
NVIDIA Offers Witcher 3 and Arkham Knight With GPUs
NVIDIA has announced an enticing reason to buy one of its GTX 9-series video cards.
If you purchase a qualifying NVIDIA graphics card from now until the 1st of June from a participating retailer, you'll score a code for The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt.
That's for the GTX 970M, GTX 980M and GTX 960 cards. Those who purchase a GTX 970 or GTX 980 will receive Wild Hunt and Batman: Arkham Knight.
The Witcher 3 and Arkham Knight are two of the prettiest games of 2015, so this NVIDIA promotion may encourage those holding off a PC upgrade to make the jump.
Tom Hardy Wants to Be the Punisher
Tom Hardy says he's interested in playing the Punisher.
In an interview at Collider, Hardy dodged a question about playing another DC character and flat out said he wanted Frank Castle.
"I want the Punisher... I want the Punisher, or Splinter Cell, I want something... I don't know what I want."
To clarify, Hardy is already attached to the Splinter Cell movie. When pushed on the topic of playing the mature Marvel character, Hardy backed down a bit.
"I'm not big enough to be the Punisher. I'm 5'9"."
Further prodding revealed passion and confusion over the Punisher's real name.
Selma Star on How Politics Hurt their Oscar Chances
Director Ava DuVernay's Oscar-nominated look at a pivotal moment in the American Civil Rights movement, Selma, is set to hit streets on Blu-ray, DVD, and On Demand on Tuesday, May 5th. IGN was able to speak with Selma star David Oyelowo - who's portrayal of Martin Luther King Jr. earned him a Golden Globe nomination - ahead of the release to talk about the bumpy road to Oscar and the door to conversation that Selma opens.
In addition to the commercial availability, Paramount is offering a free DVD of Selma to every high school in America - a gesture which the actor says, "far exceeds every dream I personally ever had for our film."
"We made a film about the power of solidarity, selflessness, courage, love and peaceful protest," Oyelowo enthused. "To know that young people across the nation will see those qualities on display in Selma as they are growing into the leaders of tomorrow makes me both proud and hopeful."
EA Targeting 10 Million Copies of Battlefront Sold
Star Wars Battlefront publisher Electronic Arts hopes to sell between nine and 10 million copies of the sci-fi shooter.
During the company's quarterly investor call held today, chief financial officer Blake Jorgensen revealed the company considers favorable Battlefront sales projections around nine to 10 million thanks in part to the excitement leading up to its release.
"We certainly hope we can leverage a lot of the hype," Jorgensen said. "We're thinking about
as two bookends. One bookend is the historical Battlefront, which did roughly 9 million units. The other bookend is our first-person shooter franchise, Battlefield, which typically does around 15 million units."
EA Says Lessons from Battlefield 4 Will Help Star Wars Battlefront
During today's quarterly investor call, EA said it's confident Star Wars Battlefront won't have the launch problems of Battlefield 4.
"We learned a lot coming out of Battlefield 4," said EA's CFO Blake Jorgensen. "We've launched a lot of large-scale titles on our infrastructure
, like Dragon Age: Inquisition and Battlefield Hardline... We've been making significant investments into core infrastructure in security and stability..."
He continued, "We can never foresee everything, but we've demonstrated that we learned some things from the past. We don't expect anything unforeseen around Star Wars."
EA recently revealed that there will be 12 Star Wars Battlefront multiplayer maps. The game will be released on PC, PS4, and Xbox One on November 17.
Spider-Man Reboot Directors in the Running
Back in March, it seemed like Drew Goddard was a lock to write and direct Marvel's standalone Spider-Man movie, but that may no longer be the case anymore.
According to Deadline, the studio has a new batch of frontrunners to helm the picture, tentatively called Spider-Man: The New Avenger. Those directors include Jonathan Levine (50/50, Warm Bodies), Ted Melfi (St. Vincent), Jason Moore (Pitch Perfect), John Francis Daley and Jonathan M. Goldstein (Vacation), and Jared Hess (Napoleon Dynamite, Nacho Libre).
Titanfall 2’s Release Window Revealed
During today's EA investor call, the publisher said we shouldn't expect to see a Titanfall sequel until the company's 2017 fiscal year.
"You should assume
is not in fiscal '16; it's more likely in fiscal '17," said EA's CFO Blake Jorgensen.
EA's FY2017 runs from April 1, 2016 through March 31, 2017, so Titanfall 2 could potentially be EA's big holiday release for 2016. We don't know for sure when it's coming, but it will not be released before April 2016.
Though a sequel to Titanfall was officially confirmed in March this year, the game still has no official name according to Respawn co-founder Vince Zampella:
GTA 5 Mod Adds the Gravity Gun
It's a good day for Half-Life fans, with today's Grand Theft Auto 5 mod and Black Mesa's debut on Steam, but you need not have played Gordon Freeman's adventures for yourself to appreciate this physics-breaking gun.
All you need to make this work is Script Hook V, the gravity gun script from GTA5-Mods.com, and the stun gun.
Using the stun gun turned gravity gun, you just point at what you want to pick up, hold E to grab it, and then shoot to launch it into the air. Or a wall. Or oncoming traffic. That part's up to you.
