Gorgeous Video Captures the Sun over Five Years
The Solar Dynamics Observatory was launched five years ago, and to celebrate NASA has released a video showing off some of the spectacular images the probe has captured.
This time lapse footage takes images from a wide variety of frequency bands and imaging equipment to show the Sun as a heaving and rolling ball of plasma spewing radiation thousands of miles into space. It's stunningly beautiful.
SDO gathers data every 12 seconds, requiring a 130Mbit connection to transmit 1.5TB of information back to Earth every day. This detail not only makes for some pretty pictures, but it could also help NASA predict future solar events like solar flares that cause electromagnetic disturbances back on Earth that could potentially wreak havoc on our electronics.

X-Men in Everday Situations Are Pretty Hilarious
Ever wonder what the X-Men look like in their off-time when they're not battling Sentinels or trying to stop Apocalypse's latest plan? Well artist Chad Sell has given us a glimpse at just that.
After seeing the images getting shared around Twitter -- and laughing quite a bit -- we conducted an email interview with Sell to learn where the idea for Everyday X-Men came from, what superheroes he's interested in tackling next, and the other projects he's currently working on.

Apple Inspired Star Wars’ Lightsaber Makeover
If you like the redesigned lightsaber revealed in last year's Star Wars: The Force Awakens trailer, you can thank Apple chief of design Jony Ive.
In a New Yorker profile on Ive, director J.J. Abrams revealed that Ive offered him "very specific" suggestions about the lightsaber design, which Abrams claims will be reflected in the film.
But according to Ive, he didn't have anything to do with the controversial crossguard. He simply made a case for an uneven flow that was "more analog and more primitive," making it more ominous. "I thought it would be interesting if it were less precise, and just a little bit more spitty."
