Fortnite Chapter 2 Finale Event Ends With World Changing Results and The Rock’s Reveal
Fortnite Chapter 2, Season 8 has come to a close with “The End”, a finale Season 8 event that rocked the island to its core. The Cube Queen’s overwhelming forces dominated the players -all hope was lost. Thankfully, the island was seemingly saved by members of The Seven and The Foundation, who was revealed to be Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson.
Fortnite’s “The End” event started out calm enough. Players had fun bouncing around while a large timer counted down, our pending doom juxtaposed by dancing Narutos. All of that changed at the 9-minute mark as Cube Monsters started bleeding into our reality. Armed with legendary weapons and mounted turrets, we easily tore through the first wave of enemies. Then the clock struck zero and all inter-dimensional hell broke loose.
The Cube Queen, seen floating above a pyramid like structure, sent up a beam of light that tore a hole in the sky. Apparently, she had conscripted the Alien armada last seen in Fortnite Chapter 2, Season 7. Waves of flying saucers descended on us as giant monsters emerged from several cubed structures. Things weren’t going well.
From here, our focus shifted underground as a cutscene depicts Dr. Slone entering a secret IO base. She and her guards had captured Jones (Jonesy?) for some nefarious purpose; it looked like they were going to either scramble his mind or download important information locked away in his skull. Before Slone could finish though, Jones is saved by The Foundation, who removes his helmet revealing himself to be The Rock.

After that it’s a mad dash to the island’s core. Other members of The Seven help us, the Loopers, meet up with Jones and The Foundation just as a giant Cubed Monster smashes into their pressurized environment. Water comes flooding in and we float to the surface to witness the island tipping on its side. A few seconds later and Cube Queen – who seems to be tethered to her pyramid-like structure – is destroyed by the moving land mass. As the Fortnite’s world literally flips upside down, we see that there is another island on the other side. Fortnite Chapter 3 is here…almost.

Like previous Chapter ending events, Fortnite will be down as Epic Games updates the game. Because of this, fans won’t be able to see what this “new” island has in store until the servers come back up. That said, they’ll have plenty to talk about. Not only was “The End” an entertaining ride, we got to learn more about the mysterious group called The Seven as well as a brief look at Dr. Slone and Jones’ relationship - we knew they were at odds but not necessarily to this extent. An action filled finale, the Rock reveal, and a few bits of Fortnite lore resulted in a grand time for those who participated.
Fortnite Chapter 3, Season 1 will be starting soon. In the meantime, we’ll be sure to keep you posted with any and all Fortnite related news. That includes sharing our thoughts on the past 15 Major Events in Fortnite, the most recent updates, and more.

Geoff Keighley: Beyond Its Nominations, Activision Blizzard Will Not Be Part of The Game Awards
Activision Blizzard is currently facing serious ongoing allegations of harassment and mistreatment of marginalized workers. To learn more, please visit our timeline as well as our in-depth report on the subject.
Amidst all the allegations of discrimination and sexual harassment at Activision Blizzard, The Game Awards creator and host Geoff Keighley has confirmed that, beyond its nominations, the company behind such games as Call of Duty, Diablo, and World of Warcraft will not be part of this year's show.
Keighley shared the news on Twitter while also condemning harassment of any kind in the workplace or otherwise.
"#TheGameAwards is a time of celebration for the industry, the biggest form of entertainment in the world," Keighley wrote. "There is no place for abuse, harassment or predatory practices in any company or any community.
"I also realize we have a big platform which can accelerate and inspire change. We are committed to that, but we all need to work together to build a better and a more inclusive environment so everyone feels safe to build the world’s best games.
"All of us are accountable to this standard. Incredible games — and the talented developers who build them — are who we want to celebrate. See you on Thursday."
Keighley took to Twitter as a way to clarify his comments - some of which were paraphrased - that appeared in an interview with The Washington Post earlier this week. He said he was contemplating how to "navigate" Activision Blizzard's involvement in The Game Awards as he "supported people coming forward with their stories but also didn’t want to diminish developers’ opportunities to spotlight their games."
"We want to support employees and developers," Keighley said to The Washington Post. "We have to think carefully about how to proceed here." He also confirmed that Diablo 4 and Overwatch 2 would not be part of the show this year.
Keighley's response follows previous comments made by the heads of Xbox, Nintendo, and PlayStation against what has been happening at Activision Blizzard.
The Game Awards is set to take place on Thursday, December 9 and will start at 4:30pm PT/7:30pm ET with a Pre-Show. You can catch up on everything else you need to know about the show in our how to watch guide.

If the Chrono Cross Remaster Is Real, Please Let it Look Like This
We don't know if the reported Chrono Cross Remake is real or not, but if it is, we sure hope it looks like the cinematic trailer for the Chrono Cross and Another Eden crossover event, Complex Dream.
Set to the nostalgic opening theme Time Scar, the trailer shows off Serge, Kit, Harle, and Lynx alongside various Another Eden characters in a tribute to Chrono Cross' original intro movie. It's full of references, including the iconic moment when the camera zooms in on Kid's eye (with Feinne from Another Eden standing in here) and Harle's shot against a full moon.
And dang, they all look good.
Chrono Cross' intro is the kind of video game opening that still impresses even in 2021, but these shiny, high-quality renditions of Serge and crew are an exciting portrait of what could be, especially if that Chrono Cross remaster is indeed real.
While their Another Eden in-game selves have been shrunk down to chibi form, the crossover also comes with new full character art of Serge, Kid, and Harle that's just to die for:
And finally, there's this new piece of promo art, adding a few more familiar faces like Starky, Glenn, and FATE:

Chrono Cross released in 1999 for the PlayStation, and while it's dated in a number of ways, so much of its art and music remain stunning to this day. The art and trailer made for the Another Eden crossover event give a glimpse of what could be, and it's no surprise given that Chrono Cross veterans Masato Kato, Yasunori Mitsuda, and character designer Nobuteru Yuuki were all involved.
Another Eden's Chrono Cross-over is out on December 9, and we spoke to game director Daisuke Takeshima ahead of the announcement about the four-year endeavor to bring Chrono Cross to the mobile JRPG. Only time scars will tell if this is just a teaser for more Chrono things to come.

This Lifelike Robot Is Terrifying Everyone With Its Realism
Engineered Arts, a U.K.-based robotics company, has debuted a humanoid robot named Ameca, and it’s making folks pretty uncomfortable.
In a video posted on Engineered Arts’ Vimeo channel, you can see Ameca “wake up” and observe themselves with realistic human expression. Despite everything from Ameca’s neck down being robotic, their face is made to look very human and the video ends with Amerca staring at the viewer with a smile.

pic.twitter.com/8OXZmqEs46
Responses to Ameca have ranged from impressed to horrified for anyone who’s seen an episode of HBO’s Westworld or read any sci-fi novel ever.
On Engineered Arts’ website, the company says Ameca is “the future face of robotics,” and is “the world’s most advanced human shaped robot[.]” Ameca also incorporates artificial intelligence and machine learning.
Ameca is being advertised as “a great attraction,” and is modular to allow for “future upgrades, both physically and software to enhance Ameca’s abilities[.]” So if your sci-fi adventure theme park needs a robot with human-like expressions, well Engineered Arts has a product for you.
Jokes aside, robotic technology is fast approaching new levels. It wasn’t so long ago that robots were being asked to pick up objects. Now they know parkour. And if they can look human while doing it, well, maybe the next robotic uprising will be the one in real-life.
And for no reason at all, check out IGN's review of the most recent season of Westworld.

Halo Infinite to Add Three More PvP Modes Before the End of the Year
343 Industries is planning to release more playlists and PvP modes for Halo Infinite by the end of this year. These modes include Fiesta, Tactical Slayer (SWAT), and Free-For-All. However, they won't arrive in time for Halo Infinite's official campaign launch date of December 8.
343 community director John Junyszek announced the developer's plans on Twitter. He also mentions that a Social Slayer playlist with multiple variations of the mode is being worked on as it was the most requested game type.
"Our goal for Events is to try new modes prior to adding to playlists," explains Junyszek. "We'll monitor playlist health after the 3 additions above and adjust our offering if needed, but we're excited to make these updates before the holidays."
So far, Halo Infinite's multiplayer has received mostly positive attention, while there were early criticisms over its Battle Pass and progression system. Players have called the Battle Pass progression far too slow and additionally, XP progression is gated via completing challenges, with no extra incentives to do particularly well in a match.
However, 343 has introduced some changes since the multiplayer launched, such as providing players with more XP for their first 6 matches of the day.
Events have been criticized as well, as shown with the recent Tenrai event. Progression was also gated towards completing specific event challenges, and 343 also confirmed that players aren't supposed to complete the entire event pass during its first week, as it is supposed to return five more times throughout this first season. 343 will continue to make changes and evolve the game as time goes on, including adding more weapons.
In IGN's Halo Infinite multiplayer review, we praised the free-to-play mode saying, "Impressively, it manages to give nostalgic veterans the best of what they remember Halo multiplayer feeling like while also smoothly introducing new players to the joys of Spartan combat."

Former Twitch Streamer Ludwig’s YouTube Stream Was Killed by Baby Shark
YouTube’s latest exclusive streamer Ludwig Ahgren is already brushing up against copyright issues on the platform after leaving Twitch to sign an exclusive deal with the Google rival. All because he played a couple of seconds of the hit children’s song Baby Shark.
As reported by Kotaku, Ahgren was live-streaming himself on YouTube when his stream suddenly died. The reasoning, as he explained in a video a day later, was because he ended up playing Baby Shark during his show.
“I was trying to look at the 50 most classic vintage greatest YouTube videos of all time to find what the single greatest YouTube video of all-time was... and on the way I ended up listening to just a few seconds of Baby Shark which I won’t dare listen to for another second for the love of god.”
Ahgren called the incident a good “note for the future,” and that he now understands how powerful YouTube’s copyright system is. “It is kind of crazy that in the first four days on YouTube I got banned and in the first four years on Twitch I never got banned, but growing pains.”
Ahgren, who goes by his first name Ludwig, is the latest Twitch streamer to sign an exclusivity deal with YouTube. Ludwig broke Twitch’s subscriber record earlier this year when he hosted a 31 day, non-stop stream. By keeping his stream on the entire time for a month Ludwig surpassed the previous most-subscribed Twitch streamer Tyler “Ninja” Blevins.
Ludwig is the latest streamer to sign up exclusively with YouTube alongside other popular names like Valkyrae, DrLupo, and TimTheTatman.
DMCA takedowns have become a prominent concern for streamers regardless of platform. Copyright, and particularly copyrighted music, could seriously impact a streamer’s career and channel as multiple violations result in a permanent ban. Even video games with licensed soundtracks have begun offering “streamer mode” which disables licensed music, to awkward effect.
Still, the lesson here is probably don’t move in on Baby Shark’s turf, because they will come for you.
Matt T.M. Kim is IGN's News Editor. You can reach him @lawoftd.
Correction: YouTube has clarified that Ludwig's stream was interrupted because of "third-party content" but that the streamer is not suspended. The story mentions Ludwig resumed streaming the next day, but we've edited the story to reflect the clarification.

Apex Legends Director Chad Grenier Is Departing Respawn
Apex Legends director Chad Grenier is departing Respawn, the studio he helped form in 2010. He will be replaced by Steve Ferreira, who joined the Apex Legends team as a lead in 2019.
"It's an emotional day for me. After years of making great games with some of the best in the biz, I'm saying goodbye to a studio that I love and helped form 11 years ago," Grenier wrote.
I'm also saying goodbye to coworkers who some of which I've worked with for half my life, and others I never got to meet in person.
— Chad Grenier (@ChadGrenier) December 3, 2021
I wish everyone at Respawn the best. There is unbelievable talent at the studio so I know they'll continue making great games I'll love playing. pic.twitter.com/5H8PcLuBJP
In Grenier's note, he thanked Respawn founder Vince Zampella and the rest of the team, saying that he feels like a "kid leaving the nest."
Grenier has been Apex Legends' director since mid-2019, and was among the developers who departed Infinity Ward alongside Zampella when he and Jason West were fired in 2010. Grenier did not reveal his intentions for the future.
Grenier's departure comes amid shakeups elsewhere in EA. Yesterday, EA announced DICE general manager Oskar Gabrielson's planned departure, with Zampella adding DICE to his portfolio as Group GM.
Apex Legends launched on PC in February 2019, and is currently in the middle of Season 11.
