Arc Raiders, First Game by ex-DICE Devs to Be Revealed at The Game Awards
Embark Studios, a studio founded by former EA DICE employees, has teased that its first game will be revealed at The Game Awards later this week.
The game is called ARC Raiders, and the official announcement said that we're going to learn more on December 9. On Twitter, the new account posted a short teaser trailer for the project. It features a voiceover talking over a 1970s-like synthesizer soundtrack. The voice is calling for volunteers, followed by the tagline, "enlist. resist." You can watch the quick 20-second teaser below.
— ARC Raiders (@ARCRaidersGame) December 6, 2021
The Game Awards Twitter account retweeted the post, further teasing that the reveal is coming as part of this Thursday's event.
Back in 2018, former EA executive Patrick Söderlund opened Embark Studios with former DICE dev Johan Andersson. The studio received funding from a Japanese-Korean publisher of PC and mobile games, called Nexon.
At the time, Söderlund said the studio had, "mass-market, large-scale ambition with what we’re going to do," saying the team hoped to "design games that are very different from what’s currently available." We don't have to wait long to see the next step in Embark's vision, as the studio's inaugural game will finally be shown off this week. The studio started with just 15 to 20 employees, with a plan to grow to around 200.
DICE, of course, is known for developing the Battlefield franchise in addition to the two most recent Star Wars Battlefront games. It remains to be seen how much Battlefield influence there will be in ARC Raiders.
The Game Awards is set to take place on Thursday, December 9 at 4:30pm PT/7:30pm ET. If you want to check out all the reveals and awards for yourself, check out our guide on how to watch The Game Awards.

Spider-Man: Willem Dafoe Teases ‘Upgrades’ To Green Goblin’s Costume
The true joy of Spider-Man: No Way Home is that it's a celebration of two decades of Spider-Man films, with the return of Doc Ock and Green Goblin being two of the biggest highlights (sorry, Electro).
In a new Spider-Man: No Way Home Villains panel featuring Alfred Molina, Willem Dafoe, and Jamie Foxx, Dafoe expounded on his reaction to the original pitch, which he said seemed "pretty nutty" in light of the Green Goblin getting "speared pretty good" back in 2002.
"I know [Sony executive Amy Pascal's] history, she walked me through it, and then [Director Jon Watts] kind of pitched the whole idea before I read a script and it sounded like a lot of fun and a good solution," Dafoe said.
Dafoe also hinted that this won't exactly be the same Green Goblin we knew back in the original Spider-Man. For one, he appears to be getting some "upgrades" this time around.
"[The costume] looks a little different," Dafoe said. "Norman and the Goblin are further down the line and they have a few more tricks up their sleeve. So there have been upgrades on the costumes, let's say."
Talking about what it's like to don the Green Goblin costume again, Dafoe said "nobody knows how uncomfortable those costumes are" while laughing. However, he also called the ability to generate a costume based on computer scans "a huge leap in the technology," noting that the costumes are more flexible now.
As for Green Goblin himself, Dafoe hinted that the iconic villain's motivations are a bit different this time around.
"Green Goblin has a case to state this time. He's trying to make his case. A philosophy of life," Dafoe said. "It's not just some kind of abstract mustache-twirling power grab."
Jamie Foxx added, "It's personal. And any time you can get a character to be more personal, it carries the most weight."
The new comments are part of the run-up to Spider-Man: No Way Home's release, which is just two weeks away. We also got a hint about when we might hear Spider-Man's most famous line, as well as new posters that hint on what we can expect from No Way Home's villains.

Patty Jenkins Drops Out of Cleopatra to Focus on Wonder Woman 3 and Star Wars: Rogue Squadron
Patty Jenkins has stepped down from the director’s seat for the upcoming Cleopatra movie to focus on Wonder Woman 3 and Star Wars: Rogue Squadron. Instead, The Falcon and the Winter Soldier director Kari Skogland will step up to tackle the historical epic.
Deadline reports that Jenkins has decided to transition into a producer role for the Cleopatra blockbuster starring Gal Gadot. Jenkins announce she would be directing the movie back in 2020 based on a screenplay by Laeta Kalogridis (Shutter Island, Alita: Battle Angel).
However, with two major blockbusters on her plate, Jenkins will now focus on the next Wonder Woman movie and Star Wars: Rogue Squadron, which has been delayed indefinitely. Jenkins was originally announced to take on the Star Wars project also in 2020.
Skogland, who steps in for Jenkins as the director on Cleopatra, directed every episode of The Falcon and the Winter Soldier as well as having directed episodes on shows like The Handmaid’s Tale, The Walking Dead, The Punisher, and more. You can read our review of The Falcon and the Winter Soldier here.
Cleopatra will revolve around the Egyptian queen who won the throne over her sibling and resisted Roman rule while taking on both Julius Caesar and Marc Anthony as lovers. The scale of the movie is reportedly comparable to an MCU film.
Jenkins’ Rogue Squadron was initially slated to begin production in 2022, but Jenkins’ commitments for Wonder Woman 3 have pushed back filming on the Star Wars film. It is unclear when Rogue Squadron will hit theaters, though it likely won’t be until 2023 at the earliest.
Meanwhile, the third Wonder Woman film will again star Gal Gadot as the Amazon princess. Given the ending of Wonder Woman 1984, it’s anyone’s guess where the next film in WB’s successful superhero franchise will go. Check out IGN’s Wonder Woman 1984 review here.

Spider-Man: No Way Home ‘Inspired’ Suits Coming to PS5’s Spider-Man Remastered
Two new Spidey suits are coming to Marvel's Spider-Man Remastered later this week to promote the upcoming release of Spider-Man: No Way Home. Insomniac Games announced the suits on Twitter and showed off a brief trailer showcasing both suits. They will be available for download this Friday, December 10.
Two new suits inspired by #SpiderManNoWayHome—exclusively in movie theaters Dec. 17th—are coming Dec. 10th to Marvel’s Spider-Man Remastered, only available on PlayStation 5 as part of Marvel’s Spider-Man: Miles Morales Ultimate Edition!

The new suits Peter can wear in the game are the red, blue, and gold Iron Spider suit, and the brand new black and gold suit as seen in the Spider-Man: No Way Home trailers. Take a look at the suits below.

It's worth noting the suits will only be available for Spider-Man Remastered players, which is the upgraded PS5 version of 2018's Marvel's Spider-Man. The game is only available through the Spider-Man Miles Morales Ultimate Edition, which includes both games so far in Insomniac's Spider-Man series.
This isn't the first crossover Spider-Man PS4 is getting with the Spidey movies. Spider-Man on PS4 got the highly-requested Sam Raimi suit as free DLC, while Miles Morales players were able to swing around New York like the Into the Spider-Verse version of Miles.
If you still haven't jumped into Insomniac's Spider-Man games, Spider-Man Remastered and Spider-Man Miles Morales are both on IGN's list of the best PS5 games. And, now is a great time to try them out, because we know the series will continue both Miles and Peter's stories in 2023's Spider-Man 2.
As for No Way Home, we're less than two weeks away from the release of the highly-anticipated Spidey flick. We just got a look at new posters featuring classic Spider-Man villains. The hype is clearly high for the film, as ticket presales are the biggest since Avengers: Endgame.

John Wick Creator Working on Battle Chasers TV Series
After a 20-year hiatus from the last issue of the comic book series, Battle Chasers is making its long-awaited return with new chapters of the comic, as well as a new, live-action TV series.
Deadline has revealed that John Wick creator Derek Kolstad is working on a new Battle Chasers TV show for Alcon Entertainment.
“As a storyteller — as well as a super fan of unapologetic and unrelenting action — I can’t wait for people to feel as giddy as I did when I first laid eyes on Battle Chasers,” he said. “The world which Joe has created here, coupled with the characters therein, is both unique and yet familiar. Adapting this for the small screen is gonna’ be a jon.”
The new series is being written by Kolstad and will be based on the Battle Chasers comic books. Kolstad and Alcon Entertainment co-founders Broderick Johnson and Andrew Kosove will serve as executive producers, with Alcon Television Group’s Ben Roberts. Hitman's Adrian Askarieh is also exec producing through his Prime Universe banner.
“I connected deeply to this material twenty years ago when I first picked up the Joe’s comic book and so to be part of bringing this exciting material to a new audience is thrilling to say the least,” said Roberts.
Battle Chasers is an ‘arcanepunk’ story following five heroes – Garrison, a heartbroken swordsman; Red Monika, a bounty hunter and rogue; Knolan, a powerful, 500-year-old wizard; Calibretto, a mild-mannered war golem’ and Gully, a 10-year-old girl in search of her missing father.
Originally created by comic book artist Joe Madureira, Battle Chasers launched in 1998 with new issues often taking up to 16 months to materialise. Ending with issue #9, the series has long been on hold despite featuring a cliffhanger ending which was never concluded.
Issue #10 (originally scheduled for October 2001) was never released, with Madureira leaving the comic book industry to pursue a career in video game development.
Despite this, the series has gained plenty of fans, with Madureira recently confirming that the missing issue #10 is still on its way, 20 years later.
“[Battle Chasers] 10 is art complete (32 hefty pages),” he said via Twitter. “And @ludolullabi is making great progress on #11. Which means we'll be able to confidently announce a date soon. Ruined King took much longer than we planned (check out Ludo's amazing work there too) but we are back on track!”
Battle Chasers may be best known recently not for its comic book history, but for its move into video games. Battle Chasers: Nightwar was released in 2017, and IGN said about it that the game “scratches the JRPG itch, even if the storytelling and character development leave a fair bit to be desired.”
