Hawkeye Episode 4 Connects to an MCU Movie’s Post-Credits Scene
Hawkeye hasn't been shy with connecting the show to the MCU's past, but Episode 4 goes a step further, directly connecting it to the post-credits scene from a previous movie by introducing a new character.
This article contains spoilers for Hawkeye Episode 4, 'Partners, Am I Right?' If you haven't seen the episode, turn back now!
In the episode's climactic fight scene, a masked figure reveals themselves to be Florence Pugh's Yelena Belova, the sister of Natasha Romanoff, aka Black Widow.
The last time we saw Yelena was in the post-credits scene of the Black Widow movie. She was visiting Natasha's grave, before meeting Julia Louis-Dreyfuss' Contessa Valentina Allegra de Fontaine, who asks her if she wants "a shot at the man responsible for your sister's death," before handing her a photograph of Jeremy Renner's Clint Barton (which, as those who have watched Avengers: Endgame know, is not really the truth of the matter).
In an episode that features several moments of Barton struggling to come to terms with Natasha's death, the introduction of Yelena feels as though things are about to become harder for Clint before they get easier.
Despite expecting Yelena to appear at some point, many may have been waiting for a very different cameo to pop up in this episode. Vincent D'Onofrio's Kingpin has been rumoured to appear, and this episode featured multiple veiled references to someone at the top of a criminal organisation – someone referred to as "the big guy". However, we'll be waiting at least another week for that potential reintroduction.
Yelena's reappearance marks the first major crossover between MCU Phase 4 projects, but we'll be hoping it also makes the first connections with some of the MCU's older Netflix shows too. After all, we now know that Charlie Cox will one day return as Daredevil, too.

Fortnite Is Officially Moving to Unreal Engine 5
As part of the start of Fortnite Chapter 3, Epic Games has announced that Fortnite development has shifted to Unreal Engine 5, the latest version of the company's graphic technology.
Last year, after the gorgeous Unreal Engine 5 tech demo, Epic Games founder and CEO Tim Sweeney said Fortnite would make the shift to Unreal Engine 5 in mid-2021, adding that the new version is meant “to do things that are absolutely not possible today.”
With the arrival of Chapter 3, @FortniteGame development has flipped to Unreal Engine 5.
— Unreal Engine (@UnrealEngine) December 7, 2021
We're excited to share this journey with you and are working to make this the best experience possible for the entire Fortnite community.
Earlier this year, Unreal Engine 5 was officially released in Early Access, letting game devs test out the new tools and features in the next-gen engine. More Unreal Engine 5 tech demos and projects are already starting to crop up.
Major studios like Gears of War team The Coalition have begun developing on the new engine and showed off a stunning Unreal Engine 5 tech demo; giving a glimpse to what could be the future of the Gears series on Xbox Series X. And, just this last week, a Matrix Awakens Unreal Engine 5 experience leaked on PSN before being officially announced.
But, Fortnite is taking it a step further than these other projects, shifting all development to Unreal Engine 5, pushing the engine beyond tech demos. When it's fully released, Unreal Engine 5 will support current- and next-gen consoles, PC, Mac, iOS, and Android.
Fortnite Chapter 2 wrapped up earlier this week and was swiftly replaced by Fortnite Chapter 3, Season 1, which comes with a different island map, new gameplay, and a new Battle Pass featuring Spider-Man. Reactions to the changes are already positive, and many fans are specifically praising how good Spider-Man's web-slinging is in Fortnite.

Guillermo del Toro Reveals the Stephen King Story He Would Have ‘Killed To Adapt’
Mexican filmmaker Guillermo del Toro would love to make a Stephen King movie, and he’s revealed which book he would adapt. During an interview with The Kingcast, del Toro explained that he “would have killed” to adapt Pet Semetary, the novel that King considers to be among his scariest ever.
“You know the novel that I would have killed to adapt, and I know there's two versions of it, and I still think maybe in a deranged universe I get to do it again one day is Pet Sematary,” he said. “Because it not only has the very best final couple of lines, but it scared me when I was a young man. As a father, I now understand it better than I ever would have, and it scares me. A hundred times more.”
After the release of Stephen King’s original novel in 1983, King sold the film rights to legendary horror director, George A. Romero. But when Romero was forced to pull out due to a scheduling conflict, Paramount went ahead and made Pet Sematary with director Mary Lambert in 1989, with a script penned by King himself.
Pet Sematary was again adapted in 2019 – this time by directors Kevin Kölsch and Dennis Widmyer, with a script penned by Jeff Buhler and Matt Greenberg.
Del Toro certainly isn’t the first filmmaker to want to adapt Pet Sematary. Back in 2017, Andy and Barbara Muschietti revealed they wanted to remake the Stephen King classic.
“We’re huge fans of Pet Sematary,” Andy told Toronto Sun. “If we can get our hands on that and do the Pet Sematary we want to do, that will be something. One day, maybe.”
“We’ll see who gets to it first,” added his sister and filmmaking partner, Barbara Muschietti. “But it is the first Stephen King book that we read, and it’s something that has been a great love, because it is possibly King’s most personal book. You can imagine his young family. What will you do to be able to keep your family? How far would you go? I really hope we can do it. But if we do it, we have to do it justice, like we did with IT. The versions we read in the past years, the scripts we’ve read, have not been, in our opinion, representative of the book.”
Ultimately, the 2019 Pet Sematary remake went in a different direction. And it failed to impress the critics – the movie currently holds a 57% rating on Rotten Tomatoes with an audience score of just 32%.
Would Guillermo del Toro’s version have fared any better? Unfortunately, we’ll never know. But with more Stephen King remakes than ever, perhaps one day we’ll find out.

Tails Will Be Voiced By Colleen O’Shaughnessey In Sonic 2 Movie
Miles "Tails" Prower voice actor Colleen O'Shaughnessey will return to voice Sonic's sidekick in the live-action Sonic the Hedgehog 2 film.
"Taking my old pal Tails for another adventure. Thrilled to announce I’m the voice of Miles “Tails” Prower in #SonicMovie2! Can’t wait for y'all to see him on the big screen," O'Shaughnessey announced on Twitter on Tuesday.

— Colleen O’Shaughnessey (@VOColleen) December 7, 2021
O'Shaughnessey is Tails' most recent English voice actor, playing the young twin-tailed fox/mechanic in the 2014 Sonic Boom TV series and Sonic Boom video games. O'Shaughnessey has gone onto voice every subsequent incarnation of Tails, including his cameo in Cartoon Network's OK K.O. and in the Mario and Sonic at the Olympic Games series. Her first actual role in the Sonic universe was in 2010's Sonic Colors as Charmy the Bee.
O'Shaughnessey's has worked as a voice actor since 1999 when she started voicing Sora Takenouchi in Digimon Adventure. Her other major credits include numerous Naruto series characters, including Ino Yamanaka, Ghost in the Shell's child-like Tachikoma robots, and Marvel hero the Wasp in various games and shows.
O'Shaughnessey previously voiced Tails in the end credits stinger for the original Sonic the Hedgehog live action film, when Tails arrives in the human world trying to track down Sonic.
The voice actor's return for the sequel was at least somewhat up in the air given concerns that Paramount may try to cast a more recognizable Hollywood star, like Chris Pratt. Those concerns appear to be for nothing now, though that didn't stop Paramount from casting Idris Elba as Knuckles the Echidna.
Sonic the Hedgehog 2 is scheduled to release on April 8, 2022.

Venom 3 Already In The Works
Tom Hardy’s Venom will be getting a yet-another sequel, as producer Amy Pascal revealed that Venom 3 is already underway.
During an interview with Collider, the Spider-Man: No Way Home producer confirmed that another Venom sequel is already in the works.
“We are in the planning stages right now,” she revealed. “But what we are focused on is getting everybody to come and see No Way Home.”
Tom Hardy first starred as Venom in the 2018 Spider-Man spin-off. Following the story of investigative journalist Eddie Brock, the film acts as an origin story for the Venom symbiote – an extra-terrestrial parasitic entity who takes up residence in the aforementioned Eddie.
Venom’s recent sequel, Venom: Let There Be Carnage certainly opened up the door for more Venom movies. Despite mixed reviews from critics, the film went on to become the sixth highest-grossing film of 2021 – earning $483 million at the box office.
The film set a pandemic record, with its $90 million opening weekend.
With the film performing incredibly well for a pandemic release, it feels as though Venom 3 is a bit of a no-brainer.
But will Venom begin to appear in the MCU before that?
Venom: Let There Be Carnage certainly hinted at a Marvel crossover with its mid-credits scene – linking Venom and Eddie Brock to Marvel’s current Peter Parker. And while Pascal refused to say much, it looks as though there could be room for a crossover.
“There’s the wonderful movies that Sony makes,” said Pascal. “Then there’s the Marvel universe, there’s our Spider-Verse movies and we’re all very careful to work with each other in a way that is additive for everybody.”
Of course, Spider-Man: No Way Home introduces numerous former Spider-Man villains back into the MCU. And this would be the perfect opportunity to get Venom in on the action.
Whether or not Venom appears in No Way Home remains to be seen. But with Venom 3 in the works, it looks as though Tom Hardy’s time as Eddie Brock is far from over.
