Take-Two Interactive, the company that owns Rockstar and 2K, has announced that it has entered into an agreement to buy mobile game developer Zynga in a massive deal that could be the highest-valued video game acquisition of all time. Yes, even bigger than Microsoft's buyout of Bethesda.

Announced in a press release, the two companies have agreed that Take-Two will acquire all of Zynga's shares and take ownership of the company. The value of the move is approximately $12.7 billion. Rather than a total cash buyout, Take-Two has facilitated the deal by purchasing Zynga's shares using a combination of cash and Take-Two's own stock.

The terms of the agreement sees Zynga stockholders receiving $3.50 in cash and $6.36 worth of Take-Two common stock, making each Zynga share value at $9.86. This marks a premium of 64% on Zynga's closing share price on January 7, 2022.

“We are thrilled to announce our transformative transaction with Zynga, which significantly diversifies our business and establishes our leadership position in mobile, the fastest growing segment of the interactive entertainment industry,” said Strauss Zelnick, Chairman and CEO of Take-Two. “This strategic combination brings together our best-in-class console and PC franchises, with a market-leading, diversified mobile publishing platform that has a rich history of innovation and creativity."

The deal's value across both cash and stock represents what could be the largest acquisition in video game history. The $12.7 billion value eclipses Tencent's $8.6 billion purchase of Supercell, and Microsoft's $8.1 billion acquisition of ZeniMax Media and Bethesda, even when adjusting for inflation.

Zynga is one of the world's most successful mobile games developers, having created hits such as Words With Friends, Farmville, and Harry Potter: Puzzles and Spells. It is currently working on Star Wars Hunters, a Nintendo Switch game set for release in 2022.

Footage of the Elden Ring character creator has leaked, and fans are pleasantly surprised to find it's a much more in-depth system than that featured in Dark Souls and Bloodborne.

Leaked by YouTuber ER-SA, the character creator allows for the making of much more natural looking human characters than FromSoftware's previous games. Part of that comes from the graphical fidelity of Elden Ring; while arguably not quite on par with the PS5 Demon's Souls remake, the characters are far more comparable, and of a significantly higher quality than those seen in Dark Souls 3 or Bloodborne. A comparison between recent FromSoft character creation results was posted to Twitter by fan SkeleMann:

Additionally, a number of slider options allow a significant amount of in-depth control over how your Elden Ring character looks. In the closed network test, from which this footage has leaked, the labels for each of the options are missing. However, we can clearly see via the results that there are options for altering spacing on all aspects of the face, and the ability to reform areas like the nose, cheeks, chin, and brow. Essentially, while the enhanced graphics of Elden Ring allow for much more natural looking characters, you'll also be able to create an absolutely disgusting beast of a person, should you still wish.

So far, the reaction from fans has been very positive, with just as many interested in making a realistic character as they are in making something that could be featured in Monster Factory.

Elden Ring and Souls-veteran director Hidetaka Miyazaki recently revealed that the graphical quality of the Demon's Souls remake put extra pressure on the Elden Ring team to make the game look fantastic. And while the multiplatform nature of Elden Ring means it likely will never look as graphically cutting edge as Demon's Souls for PS5, this is definitely a step up for FromSoftware, and the character creation suite is following in that direction.

Valve's digital distribution service Steam has continued a pattern of breaking its own records, passing 28 million concurrent users on January 9.

As reported by analyst Daniel Ahmad (tweet below), the Steam community recently helped set another record for the PC service as over 28 million players flocked to the platform. The exact number, which stands at 28,230,661, is the first time in history that Steam has reached over 28 million concurrent players - after narrowly missing out earlier this month.

Steam hit 28 million concurrent users today.

Concurrent users saw strong growth during 2020, due to the impact of COVID-19, but it's clear that growth also continued to persist in 2021.

Since the beginning of the global pandemic, Steam has seen a consistently growing fanbase. In March 2020, the platform celebrated a landmark milestone as over 20 million different players were seen to be using the service.

You might have expected the mass lockdowns of 2020 to make that the peak, but those numbers have only continued to grow, breaking the record multiple times. In February of last year, IGN reported that the service had seen over 26.4 million players, while further records were later set over Thanksgiving weekend, when over 27.3 million players were playing at one time.

Steam's most recent record-breaking success story has drawn upon a mix of classic titles and heavy-hitting newcomers. As has been the case for some time, Valve's very own Counter-Strike: Global Offensive still proves to be an incredibly popular choice for players logging into the platform, while more contemporary releases such as the likes of Football Manager 2022, Apex Legends, and Amazon's New World have also played their part.

Looking forward, Valve will almost certainly be hoping that the upward trend continues. While its classic titles continue to provide a solid foundation for its fanbase, the company may look toward the release of its upcoming handheld, the Steam Deck, to draw in further players. Originally planned for release in 2021, the portable PC was delayed until February 2022. While news of the handheld's initial delay may have been disappointing at the time, fans will be glad to know that the company recently said that it's still on track to meet the new deadline.

New concept art for Spider-Man: No Way Home shows that Marvel hero America Chavez was seemingly being considered for the movie.

Also known as Miss America, Chavez is set to appear in the upcoming Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness. But it looks as though she was originally due to appear alongside Peter Parker in Spider-Man: No Way Home – a new image shows the character holding what appears to be a magic tome, surrounded by charcaters from the Spider-Man movies, and amid some out-of-control bumper cars.

The concept art comes from Maciej Kuciara who (per Screenrant) posted the image on Twitter before deleting it shortly afterwards. As you can see below, that image made it beyond the artist's page before it was removed:

It’s unclear whether this appearance would actually have been America Chavez’s film debut when the concept art was drawn up. After all, the Marvel slate has seen numerous reshuffles as a result of the pandemic. Notably, the upcoming Doctor Strange sequel was supposed to be released before Spider-Man: No Way Home.

Because of this, it’s just as likely that Miss America still would have debuted in Doctor Strange 2, albeit before her originally planned appearance in No Way Home, with her scenes potentially removed from the recent Spider-Man film because of the reshuffle.

According to Marvel boss Kevin Feige, the multiverse will be a recurring theme in the Marvel Cinematic Universe moving forward. Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness will further explore the connections between the different Marvel universes, seemingly directly as a result of events in No Way Home.

It was recently reported that Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness is undergoing significant reshoots with director Sam Raimi. Meanwhile, Spider-Man: No Way Home is now Sony’s highest-grossing film of all time and has earned $668 million at the US box office so far, with an impressive four weeks at the top of the domestic charts.

After a fresh set of delays to the MCU slate, Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness debuts in theaters on May 6, 2022.

The 79th Golden Globe Awards have arrived but in a much different form. This year's show was held as a private event and there was no live-streamed component, meaning the winners were announced on the Golden Globe Awards' Twitter account throughout the big night.

Both Belfast and The Power of the Dog led the way with seven nominations, but The Power of Dog was the film that took home some of the biggest awards and tied for first place with three wins - Best Motion Picture – Drama, Best Performance by an Actor in a Supporting Role in a Motion Picture, and Best Director – Motion Picture. Belfast, on the other hand, won the award for Best Screenplay - Motion Picture

The Power of Dog was joined by West Side Story and Succession in winning three awards each, and Hacks came in a close second with two wins. Dune, which was IGN's best movie of 2022, took home the award for Best Original Score - Motion Picture.

Bob Saget, the beloved comedian and star of Full House, has died at the age of 65.

While his death was first reported by TMZ, the Orange County Sheriff's Office officially confirmed the sad news and added that there were "no signs of foul play or drug use in this case."

"Earlier today, deputies were called to the Ritz-Carlton Orlando, Grande Lakes for a call about an unresponsive man in a hotel room," Orange County Sheriff's Office wrote. "The man was identified as Robert Saget & pronounced deceased on scene. Detectives found no signs of foul play or drug use in this case."

Saget tweeted just last night after his show at Ponte Vedra Concert Hall in Jacksonville, Florida, saying that he was "happily addicted to this shit" while also promoting his website BobSaget.com that has the dates for his I Don't Do Negative Tour in 2022.

Saget was born Robert Lane Saget on May 17, 1956, in Philadelphia, PA. He had initially hoped to become a doctor, but his Honors English teacher Elaine Zimmerman pushed him towards a career in film.

He would go on to attend Temple University's film school and would create a black-and-white film known as Through Adam's Eyes that earned him an award at the Student Academy Awards. He graduated with a Bachelor of Arts in 1978 and secured his first role in a short called Devices in 1980.

He would continue taking smaller gigs like CBS' The Morning Program until he secured his breakout role as Danny Tanner in Full House in 1987. Those who only watched him as the wholesome family man with a warm smile may not have realized that, in real life, he was all those things but also a pretty raunchy comic.

Alongside Full House, many will remember Saget as the host of America's Funniest Home Videos from 1989 to 1997. He played both the host of America's Funniest Home Videos and Danny Tanner in Full House at the same time as Full House ran until 1995.

Saget also reprised his role as Danny Tanner in certain episodes of Fuller House, the sequel series that ran from 2016-2020. Some other career highlights include playing himself in Entourage, serving as the narrator/older Ted Mosby in How I Met Your Mother, and taking on the role of Matt Stewart in Raising Dad.

As previously mentioned, he also had a long career as a successful stand-up comedian who was known for pushing the envelope with his dirty sense of humor. His comedy album, "That's What I'm Talkin' About," was nominated for Grammy Award for Best Comedy Album in 2013.

Saget is survived by his wife Kelly Rizzo and his three children.

As reported by Variety, Spider-Man: No Way Home has earned $668 million at the domestic box office so far and has surpassed Titanic's $659 million and Jurassic World's $652 million on the all-time list. With no sign of slowing down, it now looks to overtake Avengers: Infinity War's $678 million and Black Panther's $700 million.

Globally, Spider-Man: No Way Home has reached $1.53 billion and has become the eighth-highest grossing film of all time.

Sing 2 once again earned the #2 spot with domestic ticket sales reaching $11.9 million. Furthermore, Sing 2 has crossed $100 million domestically and has become the first animated film to cross that milestone since Frozen 2 did so in 2019.

The new film on the block - The 355 - did not fare so well and placed third with only $4.8 million at the domestic box office. Despite its impressive cast that includes Jessica Chastain, Penelope Cruz, Diane Kruger, Bingbing Fan, Sebastian Stan, Lupita Nyong'o and more, the spy film fell short of expectations. While it is currently only available in theaters, it will be able to rent in the near future and will arrive on Peacock in 45 days.

In our The 355 review, we said that it "did its first job correctly, which was to assemble a fun female cast who you'd want to see kick ass all over the world in an espionage adventure. It did not, however, deliver on its second (and arguably more important) task, which was to deliver a fresh and engaging story that fondly recalls old school while ushering in new school."

The King's Man placed fourth with $3.3 million, and American Underdog rounded out the top 5 with $2.4 million.

A new entry in Elden Ring developer FromSoftware's Armored Core series has allegedly been revealed via a survey sent out to consumers.

ResetERA's Red Liquorice shared that they recently finished a consumer survey about "a new Armoured Core game with description, screenshots and two 30 second-ish videos of gameplay - the first a boss fight and the second more in-world gameplay, a snow area."

They were unable to share any screenshots as they are all "unique ID watermarked," but they did share an image of the text description of this alleged unannounced game.

"Melange, an unknown substance that could dramatically advance human society," the game's description reads. "In the past, the substance caused a cosmic catastrophe on planet Bashtar that engulfed the surrounding star systems, and eventually its very existence was lost. Decades later, the Melange reaction was confirmed again on planet Bashtar."

"In search of the unknown substance that should have been lost, various speculations begin to swirl. Various parties are getting involved; The government, corporations, cultists, and unknown mercenaries... The protagonist is one of them."

The game is described as a "TPS (third person shooter) mecha action title that lets you move around an overwhelmingly scaled map that represents a unique sci-fi world with dynamic mech action." It is also said that the aforementioned sci-fi world is created by Hidetaka Miyazaki himself.

Miyazaki, who is the director of the Dark Souls games, the upcoming Elden Ring, and even Armored Core 4 and Armored Core: For Answer, actually began his career by working as a game planner on Armored Core: Last Raven in 2004.

The description also teases a "vast field that represents a multi-layered world;" long and short-range battles with guns, blades, and shields; and a high degree of customization that will let players fine-tune their mechs to suit their play styles.

Red Liquorice continued to say that the boss fight they saw was "quite soulsy" and that the short glimpse of gameplay hinted at the possibility of co-op.

They also claim the survey listed some options for a potential name for this project.

"Most of them were Armoured Core: [Something] including just 'Armoured Core' and both AC: 6, AC: VI, and other subtitles I can't remember, some of the choices didn't include AC in the name at all," Red Liquorice said.

Lastly, they shared a brief description of what they seemingly saw in the video and how that first boss fight looked.

"iirc the boss had a domed head and was bigger than the player but not huge," Red Liquorice said. "If I had to guess, I'd say this was like an Asylum or Taurus Demon style early boss, obviously total speculation there, but it didn't seem grandious or particularly impressive as an encounter. Boss had a life bar on screen (at the top of the screen iirc) - very simple but it was more red LED-styled, futuristic as you might expect, angular edges on the lifebars rather than straight rectangle."

It's obviously important to take this news with a grain of salt, but FromSoftware has previously stated that it has no intention of ending the Armored Core series. In 2018, Miyazaki even hinted that a new entry was in development.

With Elden Ring set to be released on February 25, 2022, it may not be too terribly long until we find out if FromSoftware is in fact planning to return to Armored Core for its next game.

A new entry in Elden Ring developer FromSoftware's Armored Core series has allegedly been revealed via a survey sent out to consumers.

ResetERA's Red Liquorice shared that they recently finished a consumer survey about "a new Armoured Core game with description, screenshots and two 30 second-ish videos of gameplay - the first a boss fight and the second more in-world gameplay, a snow area."

They were unable to share any screenshots as they are all "unique ID watermarked," but they did share an image of the text description of this alleged unannounced game.

"Melange, an unknown substance that could dramatically advance human society," the game's description reads. "In the past, the substance caused a cosmic catastrophe on planet Bashtar that engulfed the surrounding star systems, and eventually its very existence was lost. Decades later, the Melange reaction was confirmed again on planet Bashtar."

"In search of the unknown substance that should have been lost, various speculations begin to swirl. Various parties are getting involved; The government, corporations, cultists, and unknown mercenaries... The protagonist is one of them."

The game is described as a "TPS (third person shooter) mecha action title that lets you move around an overwhelmingly scaled map that represents a unique sci-fi world with dynamic mech action." It is also said that the aforementioned sci-fi world is created by Hidetaka Miyazaki himself.

Miyazaki, who is the director of the Dark Souls games, the upcoming Elden Ring, and even Armored Core 4 and Armored Core: For Answer, actually began his career by working as a game planner on Armored Core: Last Raven in 2004.

The description also teases a "vast field that represents a multi-layered world;" long and short-range battles with guns, blades, and shields; and a high degree of customization that will let players fine-tune their mechs to suit their play styles.

Red Liquorice continued to say that the boss fight they saw was "quite soulsy" and that the short glimpse of gameplay hinted at the possibility of co-op.

They also claim the survey listed some options for a potential name for this project.

"Most of them were Armoured Core: [Something] including just 'Armoured Core' and both AC: 6, AC: VI, and other subtitles I can't remember, some of the choices didn't include AC in the name at all," Red Liquorice said.

Lastly, they shared a brief description of what they seemingly saw in the video and how that first boss fight looked.

"iirc the boss had a domed head and was bigger than the player but not huge," Red Liquorice said. "If I had to guess, I'd say this was like an Asylum or Taurus Demon style early boss, obviously total speculation there, but it didn't seem grandious or particularly impressive as an encounter. Boss had a life bar on screen (at the top of the screen iirc) - very simple but it was more red LED-styled, futuristic as you might expect, angular edges on the lifebars rather than straight rectangle."

It's obviously important to take this news with a grain of salt, but FromSoftware has previously stated that it has no intention of ending the Armored Core series. In 2018, Miyazaki even hinted that a new entry was in development.
