Red Notice Will Get Two Sequels, Ryan Reynolds, Gal Gadot, Dwayne Johnson Set to Return

Netflix action flick Red Notice is getting not one, but two sequels.

According to Deadline, the heist movie starring Dwayne Johnson, Ryan Reynolds, and Gal Gadot will be getting two follow-ups, with both movies shooting back-to-back next year.

It’s understood that Dwayne Johnson, Ryan Reynolds, and Gal Gadot are all on board for the upcoming sequels. Additionally, Deadline says that writer-director Rawson Marshall Thurber will return, too, and is currently penning the scripts.

Although details are tightly under wraps, it’s said that the plan is to bring back the first movie’s three major stars, while adding more to the mix. The hope is that Netflix can turn Red Notice into an Ocean’s Eleven-style franchise.

Red Notice stars Dwayne Johnson as Agent Hartley – an FBI profiler helping Interpol bring a high-profile art thief, Nolan Booth (played by Ryan Reynolds), to justice. But the pair are forced to work together when Nolan’s rival, Bishop (played by Gal Gadot) throws a spanner in the works.

It’s not exactly a hugely original concept, and while it quickly became Netflix’s most-watched film of all time, it largely left critics wondering what all the fuss was about.

IGN’s own review explains that “Three A-listers globetrot and double-cross each other in Red Notice, a derivative action film that should be much smarter and sexier than it ends up being.” Not exactly a great start for an Ocean’s Eleven heist-a-like.

That said, the film has already been watched for over 280 million hours, shattering records at Netflix and earning the movie a 92% audience rating over at Rotten Tomatoes. It’s easy to see why Netflix might be keen on making a couple of sequels.

Red Notice 2 and 3 will film back-to-back next year, which already indicates a certain confidence from the online streamer. After all, it’s mostly multi-billion-dollar franchises such as Avatar or Avengers that get the back-to-back treatment.

And that’s likely a sign that Netflix is going all in on this new action franchise.

PlayStation Is Phasing Out PS Now Gift Cards Amid Speculation of Game Pass-style Service

Following reports that PlayStation is asking UK retailers to begin removing PS Now retail cards, PlayStation has confirmed that it is streamlining its gift card offerings.

According to a message sent out by Game store retailers to staff, UK stores were asked to remove PlayStation Now subscription cards by January 21. In a statement to IGN, PlayStation says, “Globally, we are moving from PlayStation Now Gift cards to focus on our current cash denomination PlayStation gift cards, which can be redeemed for PlayStation Now.”

PlayStation Now got a head start on the idea of video game streaming, but cloud streaming has still trailed traditional native gaming. So it makes sense that PlayStation would want to streamline the different retail gift cards it offers.

The move also sparked intense speculation about the future of PlayStation Now as a service. Bloomberg previously reported that Sony intends to merge PlayStation Now with PlayStation Plus in a new multi-tiered program where for an additional cost users can access cloud gaming on top of PS Plus.

Xbox offers something similar already with Xbox Game Pass Ultimate which bundles its Netflix-style subscription service with Xbox Live Gold and xCloud gaming.

According to earlier reports, PlayStation has plans for three tiers, which start with online gaming and free monthly games, a higher tier with a Game Pass-style catalog, and an even higher tier with streaming and a bigger library that includes backward compatible games.

There’s a chance that both of these are true, and that Sony plans to offer a unified retail gift card (I imagine there are folks who mistakenly purchase a PS Now gift card when they wanted a PS Plus gift card) as well as make way for this new online service.

Final Fantasy XIV Director Pleads For Fans To Be Kinder To Developers

We've all heard the Golden Rule since kindergarten: treat others how you want to be treated. Now, Final Fantasy 14 Director Naoki Yoshida is urging fans to follow this rule, speaking out against verbal abuse directed towards developers and other players.

In a YouTube video translated on Reddit, Yoshida addressed fan feedback, saying while he supports constructive criticism from fans, verbal abuse should not be tolerated.

"Of course I'm thankful and grateful for players to tell us that 'we should do this, or this should be that' and whatnot, but verbal abuses are [something we wish could stop]," Yoshida said.

Last month, Square Enix released Final Fantasy XIV: Endwalker, the latest expansion for the immensely popular MMO set in the Final Fantasy universe. However, before its release, Square Enix had to delay the game by two weeks. Yoshida says that delay led to some unwanted toxicity in the community.

"Ever since the unfortunate release delay of the expansion... for some reason there seems to be some [haters of the game] laying around attacking other players despite not playing the game and it was quite glaring," Yoshida said. "I felt as if those strong words used in arguments against people ended up holding people back because of this."

Yoshida says this bullying within the community can cause new players to drop the game entirely, and it also has a negative impact on developers, even leading to some resignations over the abuse from fans.

"I can take it, even though it doesn't make it less bad," Yoshida said. "But staff members will feel really down after getting those words when they gave their absolute best into trying to create something everyone can enjoy, and this may end up making them no longer create things that are fun from there on."

The solution, according to Yoshida, is to treat each other with more empathy, as if you were speaking to developers and fans in person.

"So I have only one request to every player out there — please imagine that you're speaking face to face with a developer whom you may not know his name nor face and imagine how they'd feel before sending your feedback over, and I'll be happy if people can do so politely."

And, of course, Yoshida still wants fans to point out mistakes the developers make, he just hopes fans will consider the way they deliver their feedback in the future.

Despite some negativity in the community, Endwalker is seeing loads of success. We called the expansion amazing in our review, saying, "Endwalker marks a satisfying conclusion to Final Fantasy XIV's story as it has existed to date." And, the game is so popular, Square Enix actually had to stop selling Final Fantasy XIV to prevent server overload.

Marvel’s Secret Invasion: The Entire Cast of the Disney+ MCU Show (So Far)

Marvel's Secret Invasion has opened the dossier on its all-star cast, and it includes returning MCU actors Samuel L. Jackson, Ben Mendelsohn, and Cobie Smulders.

Despite these high-profile names, Secret Invasion is expected to have a small cast rather than a massive ensemble a la Avengers: Endgame. Marvel Studios boss Kevin Feige previously hinted that the series would be a much more intimate story than its comic book inspiration, with episodes mostly revolving around Fury and Talos' investigations into a cosmic conspiracy.

The original Secret Invasion comic was published in 2008 and dealt with a vast conspiracy involving Skrull double agents using their shape-shifting powers to impersonate various heroes and villains and pave the way for the Skrull Empire to take over the planet, so it's possible that the cast of the live-action series will have their work cut out for them.

Keep reading for a rundown of who's appearing in Marvel's Secret Invasion — and don't forget to bookmark the page, as we'll be updating this article with all-new casting announcements.

Samuel L. Jackson as Nick Fury

Samuel L. Jackson will lead the cast of Marvel's Secret Invasion, playing an eye-patchless Nick Fury. He will investigate a sect of Skrulls who have infiltrated the highest levels of authority in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Jackson previously made a cameo as Nick Fury on Agents of SHIELD so this isn't the first time that he has reprised his role for the small screen.

Ben Mendelsohn as Talos

Ben Mendelsohn will be returning to slip into the skin of Skrull leader Talos whose previous appearances include outings in Captain Marvel and Spider-Man: Far From Home. He was last seen in Far From Home's end credits tag scene, which revealed that Fury was actually in a space station with other Skrulls the entire time while Talos was doubling as him.

Kingsley Ben-Adir

Alongside Jackson and Mendelsohn, Kingsley Ben-Adir has reportedly joined the cast of Secret Invasion. Sources have suggested that he will be playing one of the lead villains on the show, coming off the back of his role as Malcolm X in Regina King's critically-acclaimed directorial debut One Night in Miami, which earned three nominations at last year's Oscars.

Olivia Colman

Oscar-winner Olivia Colman is also said to be joining Jackson in the Nick Fury-focused Disney+ series. The British star is known for her portrayal of Queen Elizabeth II in The Crown as well as winning an Academy Award in 2018 for Best Actress in The Favourite, however, the identity of the character she'll be playing in Secret Invasion is being kept under wraps for now.

Emilia Clarke

Last year, Game of Thrones veteran Emilia Clarke was reported to be in final negotiations to join the cast of Secret Invasion. She later confirmed in an interview with Jimmy Fallon on The Tonight Show that she would be starring in the upcoming Disney+ series, marking her first appearance in the MCU, though it's unknown at this time who she will be playing.

Killian Scott

In addition, Deadline reported that Killian Scott had joined the ranks of Marvel's Secret Invasion in yet another role shrouded in mystery. The Irish actor is no stranger to the small screen, having starred in the likes of Ripper Street, portraying Assistant Commissioner Augustus Dove, and Damnation, replacing Aden Young, who left due to creative differences.

Christopher McDonald

According to Deadline, Christopher McDonald has also signed on the dotted line to appear in the series as a reported "newly created" character, with the potential to "cross over to the larger MCU" by appearing in movies and other Disney+ limited series. McDonald's past TV credits include Family Law, Boardwalk Empire, and the HBO Max comedy series Hacks.

Cobie Smulders as Maria Hill

Cobie Smulders is set to return to the MCU to reprise her role as Maria Hill, the former Deputy Director of SHIELD. Smulders has played Hill across a number of different MCU projects to date. Having initially made her debut in The Avengers, the actress has also starred as Hill in several other films, including Spider-Man: Far From Home, Avengers: Age of Ultron, and more.

‘Big’ Marvel Characters Were Cut From Spider-Man: No Way Home’s Script

Warning: This article contains spoilers for Spider-Man: No Way Home!

Spider-Man: No Way Home originally included some “big” Marvel characters.

During an interview with The Wrap, No Way Home co-screenwriter Chris McKenna revealed that some major Marvel characters were removed from the script.

“I don’t know if we’re allowed to, honestly, but there were big characters,” he said. “But almost too big, because it always became a balancing act of how do we tell not only a story with all these awesome villains that we know we want to bring into this movie, the classic ones, but also how do we make this still a Tom Holland/Peter Parker story so that he’s not completely overshadowed?”

McKenna stopped short of revealing which characters would have been in the movie. But it sounds as though removing them was a good idea. After all, Spider-Man: No Way Home isn’t exactly short on heroes and villains.

Starring Tom Holland as Peter Parker/Spider-Man, No Way Home brought the Green Goblin (Willem Dafoe), Doctor Octopus (Alfred Molina), The Lizard (Rhys Ifans), Electro (Jamie Foxx), and Sandman (Thomas Haden Church) back to the big screen.

Alongside an appearance from Doctor Strange (Benedict Cumberbatch) any additional Marvel characters may have made the movie feel a lot more cluttered. It may even have shifted the focus away from Peter Parker.

“Because at the end of the day, it’s not going to be a great Spider-Man movie if you’re not telling an emotional Peter Parker story,” added McKenna. “We had these riches that we had to… This giant idea [with] all these great actors, but also we had to tell a story that felt like we were telling a personal story for our main character.”

The multiverse crossover in Spider-Man: No Way home featured some of Spider-Man’s greatest villains, as well as a long-rumoured return for both Tobey Maguire and Andrew Garfield as their own incarnations of the web-slinging superhero.

And while it was originally intended to be little more than a post-credit scene this complicated crossover proved to be a big hit with the fans, as No Way Home became Sony’s highest-grossing film of all time.

Spider-Man: No Way Home debuted in theaters on December 17, 2021.
