Crysis 4 Is Coming

Crysis 4 is on its way, with developer Crytek putting out a teaser trailer following a leak on Chinese social media. The game is still early in development and "will be a while yet".

Announced under the simple headline of 'A Crytek Announcement', the teaser shows a number of images, from an unstable sun to a collapsing building, before ending with a large number 4 and the tagline "Join the journey. become the hero."

No official title, release date, platforms, or game details have been announced at time of writing.

Update: Crytek CEO Avni Yerli has confirmed that the fourth Crysis game is "in the early stages of development so it will be a while yet." Yerli added: "We wanted to bring you the news at this time as we are so hyped for the future, and to let you know that we will be listening to our community."

As you might expect from this series, Yerli says the team is aiming to release "a truly next-gen shooter," and will release more details "when we can."

A leak from earlier today broke the news a little earlier than planned. As reported by Eurogamer, Crytek's BiliBili account posted a message that translates to "The 'Crysis 4' project is confirmed, opening a new nano battlefield!"

Crysis is a first-person shooter series that's as synonymous with high-tech visuals as it is beloved gameplay. Pitting players against alien invasions, deadly ciruses and mercenary forces, the games offered first-person combat with added nanosuit powers.

It's been 9 years since Crysis 3, but we've recently seen the entire trilogy remastered, leading many to speculate that a sequel could be on the way.

New Knights of the Old Republic Switch Patch Fixes Its Giant Text

A new Knights of the Old Republic patch for Nintendo Switch has fixed the game's giant and rather obnoxious text boxes.

Per a press release, the game's latest Nintendo Switch update will fix a number of issues - including its oversized combat message boxes that have frustrated fans since the game's launch last year.

For those unaware of the issue, it would present problems for fans during turn-based combat sequences in the classic action-RPG. When in fights, players would see almost a quarter of their screen filled with a massive text box, which was mostly blank space.

KOTOR developer Aspyr noted on Twitter last month that it was set to fix the issue during an upcoming patch.

While that might be the most notable change from the game's most recent patch, Aspyr has also made a number of other tweaks to the game, including fixing issues with absent NPC voice lines, an error causing incorrect button icons to appear during tutorial prompts, and a bug causing the colours for the game's full alignment icons to be swapped.

In addition to fixing a number of problems with KOTOR, fans playing on the Nintendo Switch should also note that a number of cheats have now been added to the game. In order to access the cheats you'll need to click the left stick three times, at which point, you'll have access to a range of power-ups such as turbo speed, the ability to create items, and give your character additional experience.

In other recent Star Wars news, EA recently announced that it is in the process of making three new Star Wars games, all of which are being overseen in one form or another by developer Respawn Entertainment. Across the three games, fans should expect to see a sequel to Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order, a brand new Star Wars first-person shooter, and a strategy game.

Black Myth: Wukong – Comedy Trailer Shows Off Purposely Glitchy Gameplay and Lots of Cats

Much anticipated action-RPG Black Myth: Wukong has released a 13-minute new trailer – but don't expect much in the way of new information, as it's a short comedy film featuring some silly gameplay and a lot of cats in a motion capture studio.

Released to celebrate Chinese New Year, and the start of the Year of the Tiger, developer Game Science has released 'An Alternate Reality of Game Science', in which we see developers discussing the difficulties of using cats for motion capture, and then revealing an extremely broken boss battle based on that work. Eventually, we see the Game Science office shut down and then reopened as a restaurant.

The joke seems to be that Game Science actually did try using motion capture for cats at one point. In real-life, they moved onto other ideas but in this alternate reality, this is what would have happened if they'd stuck with the idea to the bitter end.

Given that last year's Chinese New Year video showed off legitimate new footage, some may be disappointed by this more lighthearted approach, but the video ends with a short poem to appease fans:

"You came in hoping to see the game. We are working hard on the same.

Alas, a bit more patience, if you will. Well worth the wait, is the thrill."

The second half of the trailer (from around 7:25) does include footage that could well be from the game's Unreal Engine 5 upgrade, but the section features a tiger boss character that repeatedly teleports around the map, wields an unnaturally floating katana, and whose animations glitch out. The cutscene before that sequence looks a lot more legitimate, so we may well be seeing a tease of something from the final game, but Game Science definitely isn't saying so for sure.

Thankfully, the real Black Myth: Wukong is looking a lot more impressive – we've seen lots of gameplay, broken down new details, and spoken to the debut developer making this incredibly popular breakout project.

Spider-Man: No Way Home Concept Art Hints At Mysterio Duel With Dr. Strange

Warning: This article contains spoilers for Spider-Man: No Way Home!

Spider-Man: No Way Home may have almost included the return of Mysterio.

New concept art from the recent Spider-Man sequel depicts Jake Gyllenhaal’s supervillain facing off against none other than Doctor Strange.

And it’s a familiar scene, too. It looks as though Mysterio would have been present for the final fight at the Statue of Liberty,

This impressive artwork from concept artist Andrew Reader shows that the return of the much-loved Spider-Man: Far From Home villain would have placed him alongside other iconic Marvel villains.

We already saw the return of Willem Dafoe as the Green Goblin, Alfred Molina as Doctor Octopus, Jamie Foxx as Electro, Rhys Ifans as The Lizard, and Thomas Hayden Church as Sandman.

And it begs the question – would this have ushered in our first Sinister Six team-up?

It’s unclear whether Mysterio would have played a major role in the movie, or whether this concept art was from a time when the multiverse mash-up was little more than a post-credit stinger. Of course, it’s also unclear whether this is the original Mysterio…

Killed off at the end of Spider-Man: Far From Home, the villainous Quentin Beck claimed to be a hero from an alternate universe. But Peter Parker eventually rumbled his deception, revealing that he was actually a disgruntled Stark Industries employee from the main MCU universe. And he is no hero at all.

But wouldn’t it be ironic if the No Way Home version of Mysterio actually was from another dimension of the multiverse?

Unfortunately, it looks as though Jake Gyllenhaal’s Mysterio was eventually cut, so we’ll never know quite how involved he was. But with Spider-Man: No Way Home becoming Sony’s highest-grossing film of all time it looks as though it didn’t really matter either way.

But the villains weren’t the only iconic Spider-Man characters to return.

Both Tobey Maguire and Andrew Garfield suited up once more for an incredible appearance in No Way Home. Garfield even admitted that he would play Spider-Man again.

Spider-Man: No Way Home stars Tom Holland as Peter Parker, along with Tobey Maguire and Andrew Garfield as their versions of Spider-Man. They’re joined by Zendaya, Jacob Batalon, Marisa Tomei, Benedict Cumberbatch, and Jon Favreau.

Sam Raimi Reveals His Feelings After Watching Spider-Man: No Way Home

Sam Raimi, who directed the Tobey Maguire Spider-Man trilogy, has shared his feelings on the newest Spidey film, Spider-Man: No Way Home. After all, his iconic take on the Spider-Man villain Doc Ock and Green Goblin are both in the new multiverse film.

Speaking to Variety, Raimi said it was a blast to see some classic Spidey villains return to the big screen. “It was so much fun,” Raimi said.

Spoilers for Spider-Man: No Way Home Below.

“I love ‘No Way Home’ and the audience I was with went crazy. It was delightful to watch Alfred [Molina] play his role, and Willem Dafoe, just seeing these guys take it to the next level. And Tobey was awesome as always. The best word I can say is it was refreshing for me.”

Dafoe returns in No Way Home as the Green Goblin from Raimi's first Spider-Man film, while Molina played the villainous Doctor Otto Octavius in Spider-Man 2. Not content with just the two, Thomas Haden Church also appeared in the movie as Sandman from Spider-Man 3.

And of course, the biggest reveal of the movie is how Tobey Maguire from Spider-Man and Andrew Garfield from The Amazing Spider-Man both traveled across the multiverse to fight alongside Tom Holland.

No Way Home is still dominating at the box office, over a month after its debut. This past weekend, it retook the top spot at the domestic weekend box office, bringing in over $14 million. No Way Home has now earned over $1.69 billion worldwide, with $721 million coming from North America.

Raimi also gave a quick update on his next Marvel movie, Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness. Last November, we learned that the movie was undergoing significant reshoots, but now Raimi says they're just about finished.

“I think we’re done, but we just cut everything," Raimi said. "We’re just starting to test the picture and we’ll find out if there’s anything that’s got to be picked up."

Blizzard Is Hiring For an Unannounced Survival Game Set in a Brand New Universe

Blizzard has announced it is working on a new, AAA survival game for PC and console set in a brand new universe. And Blizzard is hiring to help make it happen.

In a new blog post announcing the job openings, Blizzard says its new survival game will be “A place full of heroes we have yet to meet, stories yet to be told, and adventures yet to be lived. A vast realm of possibility, waiting to be explored.”

Blizzard is hiring across multiple departments including art, design, and engineering. Among the open positions are jobs for Environment Artist, Senior Character Artist, Senior Concept Artist, Level Designer, and Software Engineers for Engine, Audio, Server, and Tools.

Alongside the job listings are two pieces of artwork, one of two people from what looks like the modern-day crossing over from modern civilization into a fantasy world, and the other of some kind of hunter dressed in a fur cap and armor. It’s unclear if these artworks are meant to illustrate the tone of the project, or are meant to portray potential themes.

Blizzard manager Mike Ybarra tweeted that he’s “played many hours of this project with the team” already, meaning the game could be further along in development.

The blog specifically asks whether prospective employees enjoy survival games, which is a genre typically defined by foraging for resources to maintain your health constantly while building shelters, tools, and weapons to stay safe from a hostile environment.

Blizzard is known for not announcing projects before they’re ready to be shown off, but this job listing feels like a move away from that. After all, hiring for a new “unannounced” survival game is still practically announcing a new game and possibly series within Blizzard’s stables.

Overwatch was the last big franchise Blizzard launched and the studio is currently developing its sequel Overwatch 2, though the long development time has created frustration among the team.

Blizzard is also grappling with its ongoing sexual discrimination scandal that has shaken the company and the video game industry at large to its core. Add a looming acquisition by Microsoft alongside the rest of Activision Blizzard, and this is certainly an unusual announcement from Blizzard. But things have not been business as usual for Blizzard in some time.

Correction: An earlier version of this story said the unannounced survival game is coming to PC and consoles. The blog post uses the singular "console" and the story has been updated to reflect this.

Dwayne Johnson Wants to Surpass Black Adam’s Comic Book Physique in Real Life

Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson wants to be bigger than Black Adam. During an interview with Men’s Journal, the 49-year-old former professional wrestler explained why he wants to buff up even more than his comic book counterpart.

"The training we did for this movie was the most arduous I’ve ever done in my life,” said Johnson. His goal was to surpass the comic book physiques drawn by Black Adam illustrators and bring a level of authenticity to his portrayal.

“I promise you this: The hierarchy of power in the DC universe is about to change.”

Of course, Johnson has been attached to the Black Adam movie for a long time. So long, in fact, that you might even call this a bit of a passion project.

"I started training for Black Adam when I came out of the womb," he said. "I believe I was born to play this character. But in all honesty, this project has been with me for 10 ten years now. The process began when we started to stand the material up and really developed it into what it is present day."

"Once the start date was agreed on by our Seven Bucks production company, the rest of my team, Warner Bros. Studio, and DC Comics, I started to build an exhaustive training program with my coach Dave Rienzi,” he added.

Black Adam is certainly going to need to be in good shape. After all, he’s going to be taking on the Justice Society of America.

And if Johnson has his way, he’ll take on Superman, too.

“Getting the greenlight for Black Adam was a once-in-a-lifetime chance to raise the bar yet again,” he explained. “I wanted to come into this in the best shape of my career.”

Aside from Black Adam, Johnson is going to be pretty busy over the next few years.

He recently revealed that he’s set to star in another video game movie, and is also voicing Krypto the Wonder Dog in the upcoming League of Super-Pets movie. Additionally, it looks as though Johnson will be back for Netflix’s upcoming Red Notice sequels.

The Rock Is Making Another Video Game Movie

Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson is working on another video game movie. During an interview with Men’s Journal, the 49-year-old former professional wrestler revealed that he’s set to star in another video game adaptation.

"I can't tell you which game in particular we're doing, but there will be an announcement this year,” he said. "We're going to bring one of the biggest, most badass games to the screen — one that I've played for years."

Of course, Johnson is no stranger to video game movies. He previously starred in Doom – the 2005 big-screen adaptation of the classic FPS franchise. But Doom wasn’t exactly a huge hit. Far from it. Critically derided, it stands at just 18% on Rotten Tomatoes and earned a rubbish $58.7 million at the box office, failing to even earn back its budget.

Johnson has also starred in Rampage, the 2018 monster movie based on the classic Midway Games title. Not to mention the video game based Jumanji reboot and its subsequent sequel, Jumanji: The Next Level.

But Johnson promises that this is one video game adaptation gamers are going to love.

“I'm really excited to bring it to fans around the world,” he added. “Of course, we're going to do right by our gamer friends — but really we're just going to make a great movie.”

If you’re wondering what games The Rock likes to play himself, it turns out he’s "always been a big Madden fan."

But don’t get your hopes up for a Madden movie. It’s far more likely that we’re talking a more traditional video game adaptation.

In the meantime, Johnson is keeping busy. He’ll star in his own DC superhero film, Black Adam, later this year, and has teased that his classic DC character may even get to fight Superman at some point. He’s also voicing Krypto the Wonder Dog in the upcoming League of Super-Pets movie and is expected to return in Netflix’s Red Notice sequels.

Ex-StarCraft and Warcraft Devs Raise $25 Million to Make an Unreal Engine 5 RTS

Frost Giant Studios, a debut developer formed by ex-Blizzard staff, has raised $25 million to help create a brand new real-time strategy game in Unreal Engine 5.

Frost Giant – which was founded by Tom Morten (production director on StarCraft 2) and Tim Campbell (lead campaign designer on WarCraft 3: The Frozen Throne) – was founded in 2020 with the goal of creating an "epic" real-time strategy game. It's latest round of funding brought in $25 million from the likes of Korean publisher Kakao Games (PUBG), Riot Games (League of Legends), and more.

In total, Frost Giant has raised $34.7 million for its debut project, and the game is now set to be formally announced later this year.

Speaking to IGN, CEO Tim Morten explained the several ways that influx of money will be put to good use. First and foremost, it will help Frost Giant make the RTS it has always been aiming to create.

"This funding gives us the runway we need to ship the game we've envisioned," he explains. "As you know, creative vision isn’t always a straight line, so the ideas we have today may morph based on what we feel would make for the best player experience. For us, this funding is a testament that the appetite for RTS remains strong in the global gaming community, and we are encouraged to have leading companies like Kakao Gaming believe in what we’re building and supporting our journey."

Other benefits for the game include turning the 30-person team into 50 people, helping fund a new HQ to house them all, as well as adding extra technology to boost the game's looks and performance – which is being built in the impressive Unreal Engine 5. "We're always looking at ways to leverage the latest technologies to create a cutting-edge RTS game experience," Morten explained. "We're investigating and experimenting with new tools for animation, visual effects, and artificial intelligence. We’re also exploring innovative ways to fully integrate esports within our game and to support our future player community."

As for what that game will be, Frost Giant is staying a little more tight-lipped – although we've gotten some clues. As you'd expect, the team is drawing on its huge experience in the genre, having made some of the best-received RTS games of all time, but Morten makes clear that this doesn't mean his new project will simply be a throwback:

"We absolutely want to make the best RTS game possible, one that existing fans and new players alike will be excited to play on day one," he explains. "The Frost Giant team is fortunate to have the benefit of learning from our experiences on StarCraft and Warcraft, and those experiences suggest some clear new directions to explore. We're also setting out to make RTS more approachable to players who may have, in the past, felt intimidated, while still providing modes that can support world-class esports.

"We think we can do it and we're committed to our mission because of how much we love the genre and its players. We hope everyone who loves RTS as much as we do will be excited to learn more about what we're up to when we give players a first look at our game later this year."

The latest press release about the game adds that the game is aiming to support co-op play, be entertaining to watch as an esport, and will welcome mapmakers.

Fight Club Just Got a New (Very Different) Ending in China

A new version of Fight Club is now available online in China, and it has a very different ending. The new version, made available on the Tencent Video streaming platform over the weekend, alters the anarchist message of David Fincher’s cult classic, with the authorities foiling the plot at the last minute.

“The police rapidly figured out the whole plan and arrested all criminals, successfully preventing the bomb from exploding,” reads the new coda as the film fades to black. “After the trial, Tyler was sent to lunatic asylum receiving psychological treatment. He was discharged from the hospital in 2012.”

The original ending was far more anti-capitalist.

In the film’s closing scenes, Edward Norton’s narrator kills off his dangerous alter ego, Tyler Durden (played by Brad Pitt), with a well-placed gunshot to his own head. Then, along with love interest Marla Singer (played by Helena Bonham Carter), he watches as Tyler’s plan to destroy the global economy comes to fruition.

As several skyscrapers explode and topple across the city, it’s suggested that Tyler’s anarchist group has wiped out all debt by literally toppling the banks.

Tencent Video has yet to comment on the changes made to the Chinese release.

Either way, it looks as though fans aren’t happy.

“How would the studio allow this?” asked one fan via Twitter. “What about director David Fincher? Doesn't he have to sign off on this? I can't imagine him ever doing that unless he thought this was just so hilarious he had to do it.”

In the meantime, Fight Club has retained a strong cult following since its release in 1999, with IGN naming it as one of the most ‘90s movies of the 1990s.

Fight Club was directed by David Fincher, with a script by Jim Uhls, based on the novel by Chuck Palahniuk. Edward Norton and Brad Pitt star in the movie, alongside Helena Bonham Carter, Meat Loaf, and Jared Leto.
