GameStop is launching an NFT marketplace later this year in partnership with an Australian blockchain startup called Immutable X.

It will also fund up to $100 million worth of Immutable X's IMX tokens to grant creators NFT content and technology, the company announced today.

GameStop said creators from gaming studios, web 3.0, metaverse gaming developers, and elsewhere can request to become a content creator on its marketplace.

The company's interest in NFTs was revealed last month by The Wall Street Journal when it hired more than 20 new staff members to run an NFT division.

The industry is relatively untested but GameStop may be pursuing the alternative business venture after struggling in the physical gaming space in recent years.

NFTs (non-fungible tokens) are essentially one-of-a-kind pieces of online content that can be bought and sold - imagine fine-art collecting but digitally. As with bitcoin, any records or exchanges are kept in online ledgers called blockchains.

Voice actor Troy Baker, known for roles in The Last of Us, Uncharted, and more, recently ventured into NFTs before quickly withdrawing, thanking fans for their "feedback and patience" after significant outcry.

Ubisoft is also working with NFTs despite a similar reaction but a company executive commented that "gamers don't get it"

EA too expressed positivity but appears to be treading with more caution and has said it's "not driving hard" in the direction of NFTs.

The nominees for the 2022 BAFTA Film Awards have been announced — and Denis Villeneuve's sci-fi epic Dune is leading the pack this year with 11 nominations.

TV presenter AJ Odudu and comedian Tom Allen unveiled the nominations for the 75th British Academy Film Awards during a live presentation on Thursday. Dune led the nominations with 11 nods across various categories, including the coveted Best Film category, which also features Belfast, Don't Look Up, Licorice Pizza, and The Power of the Dog.

Jane Campion's western The Power of the Dog secured eight nominations in total, including a shout in the Best Director category, while Kenneth Branagh's film memoir Belfast followed closely behind with six nominations. Licorice Pizza, No Time to Die, and West Side Story also received multiple mentions, earning five nominations apiece.

Benedict Cumberbatch, Leonardo DiCaprio, and Will Smith were amongst those featured in the Leading Actor category this year, with Smith receiving his first-ever BAFTA nomination for his role as the father of Serena and Venus Williams in King Richard. Meanwhile, the Leading Actress list includes the likes of Tessa Thompson, Alana Haim, and Lady Gaga.

Prime Video has revealed more than 20 posters featuring characters from the show – but only showing the hands, clothing and equipment of each one.

The upcoming Prime Video adaptation will explore Middle-earth's Second Age as a series, showing us the forging of the titular rings, and Sauron's rise to power.

Speaking of Sauron, that's almost certainly a Dark Lord's gauntlet in our slideshow of all the character posters below. It's might be a question of which Dark Lord, though - we could potentially be looking at Sauron's original master, Morgoth:

For a show this big, and this close (it premieres in September), we've learned precious little about it so far. We only discovered the title last month (which included a snazzy practical title sequence), and gotten the merest hint of Morfydd Clark's Galadriel speaking. Very few characters have been confirmed aside from Galadriel, either.

Season One of The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power wrapped filming in New Zealand in August 2021. Envisioned as a multi-season saga, Season 2 will film in the U.K. Amazon Studios previously announced that pre-production on Season 2 will begin in early 2022.

Netflix has revealed its upcoming film slate for 2022, and with The Adam Project, Enola Holmes 2, and Knives Out 2, it’s a big year for the streamer.

January was a decent month for binge-watchers, with Netflix debuting After Life, Archive 81, the newest season of Ozark, and mystery-comedy The Woman in the House Across the Street from the Girl in the Window. There’s plenty of new TV to get stuck into, but now it looks as though there are a ton of new films coming later in the year, too – in fact, Netflix is promising new movies every week.

First up, we have Texas Chainsaw Massacre later this month, a sequel to the classic 1974 horror movie. Then in March, there’s the new Ryan Reynolds sci-fi flick, The Adam Project, which sees the Deadpool actor become a time-traveling pilot.

The rest of the year looks pretty great, too, with films starring Ana de Armas, Halle Berry, Chris Evans, Jamie Foxx, Ryan Gosling, and plenty of others.

Texas Chainsaw Massacre – February 18, 2022

A sequel to the classic slasher movie, Texas Chainsaw Massacre puts a modern spin on the horror franchise. Melody (Sarah Yarkin) and her millennial hipster friends head to Harlow, Texas in search of new opportunities. Seeking to gentrify the small American town, they soon butt heads with the locals… and find themselves in the sights of a cold-blooded killer.

Texas Chainsaw Massacre stars Sarah Yarkin, Elsie Fisher, Jacob Latimore, Nell Hudson, Olwen Fouéré, and Alice Krige. Mark Burnham takes over as the iconic killer, Leatherface.

The Adam Project – March 11, 2022

An upcoming sci-fi flick starring Ryan Reynolds, The Adam Project sees a time-traveling pilot team up with his younger self (Walker Scobell) and his late father (Mark Ruffalo) to come to terms with his own past while also saving the future. Expect timeline paradoxes and plenty of witty one-liners from Reynolds.

Choose or Die – April 15, 2022

A dark take on 1980s video game culture, Choose or Die stars Iola Evans as a young coder and college dropout who fires up an obscure retro survival horror game. There’s an unclaimed $125,000 prize hidden somewhere in the game, but she soon finds the game has unleashed a curse upon her, forcing her into dangerous choices and reality-tearing challenges. No longer playing for the money, Choose or Die turns into a game of survival. There’s no Alt-F4.

Senior Year – May 13, 2022

Rebel Wilson stars in Senior Year, a comedy in which a teenage cheerleads falls off a pyramid and into a coma… only to wake up 20 years later as a 37-year-old woman. It’s described as Bring It On meets Never Been Kissed, and sees Wilson returning to high school to regain her status and finally become the prom queen she should have been.

Guillermo del Toro’s Pinocchio

The director’s first animated feature, Guillermo del Toro’s Pinocchio recently charmed audiences with its first official trailer.

“Academy Award-winning filmmaker Guillermo del Toro reinvents Carlo Collodi's classic tale of the wooden marionette who is magically brought to life in order to mend the heart of a grieving woodcarver named Geppetto. Knives Out 2

They Cloned Tyrone

Star Wars fans are desperate to see Sebastian Stan play a young Luke Skywalker in The Mandalorian… and he’s not saying no.

During an interview with Esquire, the 39-year-old Marvel actor responded to fan demands for him to pick up a lightsaber as a young version of the iconic Jedi.

“Look, it's really kind,” he said. “Never say never."

"Mark Hamill is my father, you know," he went on to joke. "And he knows that, and I call him every Christmas to tell him, ‘Just… Just want you to know I'm around.’ It's really terrifying.”

A younger version of Luke Skywalker appeared in the Season 2 finale of The Mandalorian, and again in a recent episode of The Book of Boba Fett.

Unfortunately, it’s not Sebastian Stan behind the appearance.

Young Skywalker is actually played by stand-in, Graham Hamilton, with some impressive visual effects providing the younger Jedi’s face. Meanwhile, original Luke Skywalker, Mark Hamill, recorded the character’s voice.

After Lucasfilm hired the deep fake YouTuber who improved upon The Mandalorian’s de-aging work, it looks as though this visual effects approach is what we ended up with in The Book of Boba Fett.

The result is pretty impressive… but fans are still desperate to see Sebastian Stan, who’s a dead ringer for the young Mark Hamill, pick up the role.

Even Mark Hamill has previously shown his support for Stan.

“He's a wonderful actor,” he told Good Morning America. "People say, 'Will you support him to be the young Luke Skywalker when they make those movies?' And I thought, he doesn't need me. He's an accomplished enough actor to get in on his own. And I shouldn't put my thumb on the scale because it's not my choice, it's Disney and Lucasfilm, and I don't want to cut short any other potential Lukes. I'd love to work with him. Heck, I'd play his father any day.”

The Book of Boba Fett stars Temuera Morrison as the classic Star Wars bounty hunter alongside Ming-Na Wen as Fennec Shand.

The world of Dragon Age is home to many colorful characters, and Dark Horse Direct is working to bring some of them to three dimensional life. IGN can exclusively reveal the newest addition to Dark Horse's Dragon Age Statuette line, the Iron Bull.

Based on the character's appearance in Dragon Age: Inquisition, this Iron Bull features a detailed recreation of the commander of the Bull's Chargers, with all his mighty swagger intact.

The Iron Bull Statuette is made of polyresin and was sculpted by Bigshot Toyworks, with J.W. Productions handling prototyping and painting. The piece measures roughly 8 inches tall, with a base diameter of 4 inches by 4.25 inches.

Like the other characters in this line, Iron Bull is limited to 1000 pieces worldwide. He's priced at $159.99 and is currently available to preorder on the Dark Horse Direct website. The statuette is expected to ship between September and December 2022.

The Iron Bull is the third character announced for Dark Horse's Dragon Age Statuette line. The Varric statuette is also currently available for preorder, while preorder details for the Morrigan Statuette will be announced later.

The original Dragon Age: Origins made IGN's list of the best RPGs of the last 15 years. Bioware is currently hard at work on Dragon Age 4, though the sequel hit a setback in 2021 when the game's creative director left the company. Fortunately, fans also have Netflix's Dragon Age series to look forward to.

Brian Augustyn, the comic book writer and editor who wrote Batman: Gotham by Gaslight, has died at the age of 67.

Best known for his work on The Flash in the 1990s, Augustyn died on February 1, 2022, after suffering from a stroke. Fellow writer Mark Waid announced his death via Facebook, at the wishes of Augustyn’s family.

“This one hurts unimaginably,” he said. “Brian Augustyn, rest in peace.”

“The Augustyn family has asked me to let Brian’s friends and fans know that Brian left us today after suffering a sudden, severe stroke over the weekend. I have spent a lot of time these last few hours writing a great deal about Brian, and I’ll share those thoughts soon, but for now I simply wanted to let everyone know. Comics has lost a very kind, very talented man who has been my big brother and one of my very best friends for nearly 35 years.”

After becoming editor of The Flash comic book series in 1989, Augustyn hired wired as a writer, which led to a highly acclaimed eight-year run for the duo.

Augustyn himself co-wrote the story in The Flash #142 in which Wally West married television reporter, Linda Park.

He also wrote the acclaimed DC one-shot, Batman: Gotham by Gaslight, which reimagined Bruce Wayne as a 19th-century crime-fighter, emerging at the same time as Jack the Ripper arrived in Gotham.

The success of the graphic novel led to a sequel, Batman: Master of the Future, and it’s widely thought to be the first Elseworlds story, in which DC Comics characters appear in stories that take place in alternate time periods or realities.

Already, fans and fellow comic book creators have begun paying tribute to Augustyn.

Facebook has experienced its first quarterly decline of daily users in 18 years.

The company revealed in its latest financial results that it lost one million daily users, dropping to 1.929 billion in the three months leading to December, from 1.93 billion at the end of its previous quarter.

Facebook rebranded as Meta in October to be seen as more than "just a social media company", instead focusing on the "Metaverse", a virtual online world where companies and users can connect and interact.

In its first financial report since the rebrand, Meta also revealed its advertising growth was lower than expected.

Stock plummeted by about 20% as a result, removing around $175 billion of the company's value if the drop holds when trading resumes.

Meta said earlier this week that there's now more brands, such as TikTok, competing for users' attention despite popular apps like Messenger, Instagram, and WhatsApp all falling under the Meta umbrella.

The company also owns Oculus, but announced the name would also be retired as a result of the Meta rebrand.

Oculus, a pioneer of virtual reality gaming and technology, will have its products changed to the "Meta Quest" instead of the "Oculus Quest", and so on.

Tales of the Walking Dead has just added Terry Crews to its cast alongside several others.

The upcoming spin-off from The Walking Dead has also added Parker Posey, Jillian Bell, Anthony Edwards, and Poppy Liu in its first major casting announcement since the show was announced last year.

“Anthony, Jillian, Terry, Parker and Poppy are the first wave of singular talents who will further expand the Walking Dead Universe into harrowing, hilarious, heartfelt and horrifying new realms,” said former The Walking Dead showrunner, Scott M. Gimple.

“We couldn’t be happier to welcome them to the family, along with these terrific directors.”

Channing Powell, a writer from both The Walking Dead and Fear The Walking Dead is set as showrunner. Michael Satrazemis will direct three episodes of its six-episode run, with Haifaa al-Mansour, Deborah Kampmeier, and Tara Nicole Weyr each directing one of the remaining three.

Tales of the Walking Dead is an anthology series based on the popular zombie survival-horror series, The Walking Dead.

Although little is known about the plot, the stand-alone series is expected to tell the stories of both new and established characters within the Walking Dead universe.

“We see so much potential for a wide range of rich and compelling storytelling in this world, and the episodic anthology format of Tales of the Walking Dead will give us the flexibility to entertain existing fans and also offer an entry point for new viewers, especially on streaming platforms,” said AMC president of original programming, Dan McDermott.

Tales of the Walking Dead will debut just as The Walking Dead’s 11th (and final) season comes to a close. But The Walking Dead fans don’t need to worry – although the main show is coming to end, the zombie-filled world of The Walking Dead is continuing to expand.

There’s already a Rick Grimes movie in the works, along with a spin-off about fan-favorites Darryl Dixon and Carol Peletier, not to mention another possible spin-off series that revolves around Neegan.

Tales of the Walking Dead will premiere sometime in Summer 2022.

The Nintendo Switch has become the fastest home console to sell 100 million units, and has now outsold the Nintendo Wii.

Announced in Nintendo’s financial report for the third quarter of the fiscal year ending March 2022, the company revealed that the lifetime sales of the Nintendo Switch is 103.54 million units as of December 31, 2021.

This pushes the Switch past the Wii, making it Nintendo’s best-selling console that you can plug into a TV. It has some way to go before eclipsing the Nintendo DS, though, which sold 153 million consoles across its numerous iterations.

Adding to the Switch’s accolades is that it is the fastest home console to hit 100 million sales, surpassing both the Wii and Sony’s PlayStation 4. A graph from Bloomberg reporter Takashi Mochizuki shows the continued uptake in Switch sales during the console’s fifth year of sale, while both PS4 and Wii experienced a slow down in sales at the same time during their respective lifetimes.

During the first nine months of the 2022 fiscal year, Nintendo sold 18.95 million Switch consoles. This is down by 21.4% compared to the previous year, but is the best quarter for console sales the company has had since the previous year. Nintendo expects to sell another 23 million consoles before the end of the financial year in March.

Of the almost 19 million consoles sold, the majority were the standard Switch model, at 11.79 million sales. The Switch Lite accounts for 3.99 million sales, and the new OLED sold 2.17 million units.
