GameStop Expects Switch Shortages Throughout 2017

Based on the high demand for Nintendo Switch thus far, video game retailer GameStop expects Nintendo's new console to be in short supply throughout the year.

During its Q4 2016 earnings call, GameStop COO Tony Bartel said "the demand is incredibly strong" for Nintendo Switch, noting that "as soon as we get it into our stores it's out within hours." As such, Bartel said they "anticipate that we're going to be chasing supply this entire year."

He also spoke to the console's high attach rate, especially in the case of The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild. "We almost have a 1:1 attach with Zelda," Bartel said.

9 Marvel Comics Mysteries That Took Years to Solve

This week was an important one for Thor fans, as writer Jason Aaron finally addressed a mystery that's been dangling since his 2014 mini-series Original Sin. The Unworthy Thor #5 finally revealed what Nick Fury said to Thor that made him no longer worthy to wield Mjolnir. No sooner was that mystery solved than another began, but such is the way of superhero comics.

While Aaron left readers waiting and guessing for the better part of three years, this is hardly the first time a Marvel series has played the long game. Here are nine other cases where fans had to wait years to learn the answer to a huge Marvel mystery.

How Marvel Duped Us on Star-Lord’s Father’s Identity

"J'son in it."

On the front page of my notes from my visit to the Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 set in April 2016, those words are written and underlined. I still remember the moment our group of press arrived on set, where we were brought to a conference room lined with concept art from the film. While we were waiting for interviews with Marvel Studios head Kevin Feige and co-producer Jonathon Schwartz, we scoured the art for any Easter eggs and clues we could find at the plot of the movie. There in the center of it was the biggest secret of all, seemingly revealed: the word "J'son," written above concept art of a new environment. Of course, I know now this was all a ruse.

The 5 Best and 2 Worst New Anime from Winter 2017

2017 kicked off with fun comedies and a few more brutal anime that helped round out the season tonally.

Below is our list of the best anime from the winter 2017 season along with two anime you can avoid.

This list is for new anime series only, so as much as we enjoy Konosuba and Blue Exorcist, no follow-up seasons were considered for this list. Little Witch Academia is currently not available legally outside of Japan, so unfortunately it was also excluded from consideration.

10 Shots of an Insane Mass Effect Cosplay – Garrus Edition

Mass Effect: Andromeda launched earlier this week, and we've spent a bunch of time reminiscing on some of our favourite moments and characters from the Mass Effect universe.

Garrus is probably one of the most well-loved characters in the original trilogy, and what better way to celebrate that distinguished Turian than to show off some incredible cosplay, made here on Earth. Check out the gallery below, including some information on how it was made:

The costume was made by Dominique De Leon, who is also known for her incredible Fallout cosplays. She's the 'casual FemShep' pictured in the photos above, too, and the Garrus costume is being modelled by her fiance, Zachary J Fish.

Barbie: Amy Schumer Drops Out of Sony’s Movie

Amy Schumer will no longer star in Sony's live-action Barbie movie.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Schumer has dropped out of the film due to scheduling conflicts but remains optimistic about the project. The actress recently did a polish on writer Hilary Winston's original script.

"The film has so much promise, and Sony and Mattel have been great partners. I’m bummed, but look forward to seeing Barbie on the big screen," Schumer said in a statement.

Sony Pictures first announced a partnership with Mattel to make a live-action Barbie film in 2014. Despite Schumer's departure and with no director currently attached, Sony still plans on bringing the film to theaters in June 29, 2018. The movie is said to be similar in style to films like Enchanted, Splash, and Big, and will tell the story of someone ostracized from Barbieland for not being perfect.

G.I. Joe: Hasbro Seeks to Reboot Movie Franchise

Hasbro is looking to once again partner with Paramount Pictures for a G.I. Joe movie — only this time, the company is looking to take "a more millennial approach."

That's according to Hasbro's Simon Waters (via Los Angeles Times), who said, "The world has changed, and I think you’re going to see G.I. Joe changing with it. There’s going to be a much more contemporary approach to the whole franchise, and that will allow us to develop different characters."

A G.I. Joe movie, The Rise of Cobra, was released in 2009 and followed by a sequel, Retaliation, in 2013. Both films grossed over $300 million USD worldwide. However, as LA Times notes, Hasbro is looking to broaden the franchise's appeal, much like its been able to do with the Transformers movies, which have grossed between $700 million and $1.1 billion USD worldwide.
