Call of Duty: Fans Think We’re Getting Black Ops 5 in 2024 After Image Leaks

New Call of Duty images have leaked online that, among other things, appear to hint at Black Ops 5 being 2024's installment for the FPS series.

The images were reportedly mined from a recent Warzone Mobile update by Twitter user RealiityUK (who has since been suspended from the social media platform). The images are currently viewable on ResetEra (we won't be reposting them here), and are seemingly a mix of shots from the upcoming Modern Warfare 2, and a new game in development at Black Ops developer Treyarch.

Thought to be loading screens for upcoming Call of Duty projects, the two images that really got everyone’s attention are labeled “Stealth” and “Pillage” – which apparently stem from the upcoming Call of Duty game due for release in 2024.

Although no details about the game have been officially released, some fans now believe that it will take place during the Gulf War – a continuation of Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War. Essentially, that would mean Call of Duty’s 2024 release would be Black Ops 5.

It’s easy to see why fans might jump to this conclusion. The images contain a sepiction of the real-life F-117 Nighthawk stealth aircraft, which was first deployed by the U.S. military in the '80s and became synonymous with the Gulf War in 1991.

If accurate, the time frame certainly suggests a continuation of Cold War’s story, but with nothing official just yet, it remains speculation for now. At the very least, the copyright claims and account suspension of the leaker in question lends a feeling of authenticity to what's been revealed.

The release pattern of recent Call of Duty games might also give us a hint about what to expect from the 2024 release. The modern CoD era began in 2019 with Call of Duty: Modern Warfare – a reboot of the classic Modern Warfare. This was followed up in 2020 by Black Ops Cold War, with the WWII-era game Call of Duty: Vanguard in 2021.

The next major release will be Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 later this year and, with CoD reportedly taking a year's break in 2023, it suggests that a Black Ops sequel could well follow in 2024.

Check out more about Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 with our extended look at the game’s gameplay, as well as what you’ll get in each edition of the game.

Guardians of the Galaxy and Deus Ex Writer Joins BioWare

Guardians of the Galaxy and Deus Ex prequel writer Mary DeMarle has joined Mass Effect and Dragon Age developer BioWare.

As reported by VGC, DeMarle had previously spent more than 14 years at Eidos-Montréal, where she was the narrative director and lead writer on Deus Ex: Human Revolution and Deus Ex: Mankind Dividided. Most recently she created the story of 2021's Guardians of the Galaxy, which won Best Narrative at the Game Awards last year.

DeMarle announced the switch to BioWare on her LinkedIn page, revealing her new position as senior narrative director. It's unclear what games DeMarle will be working on, but we know that BioWare is currently developing Dragon Age: Dreadwolf and a new Mass Effect game (the latter of which would match DeMarle's sci-fi writing roots).

Dragon Age: Dreadwolf was officially unveiled last month but we've known about its development since 2018. The new Mass Effect, on the other hand, was only being "actively prototyped" as of February this year, meaning it's in a much earlier stage of development.

It was first announced in December 2020 but Bioware has been fairly tight-lipped otherwise, outside of revealing a new teaser image that includes a handful of secrets for fans to decipher. The developer was also forced to address (and deny) an apparent leak that suggested original protagonist Commander Shepard was returning in the new game.

Disney’s New Name for Splash Mountain Officially Announced

Disney has announced that Splash Mountain at Walt Disney World and Disneyland will become Tiana's Bayou Adventure in 2024 and will bring a bit of The Princess and the Frog magic with it into the theme parks.

As announced during ESSENCE Fest, guests will be able to visit Tiana's Bayou Adventure at Magic Kingdom Park in Florida and Disneyland Park in California, and it promises to "pay tribute to the rich culture and history of New Orleans community."

"Walt Disney Imagineers have been frequent travelers to Louisiana while conducting extensive research to ensure Tiana’s Bayou Adventure preserves the heart and soul of the city that inspired Princess Tiana’s story," Disney Parks Blog writes. "From exploring the French Market and the bayou, to consulting with academics, chefs, musicians and cultural institutions, Imagineers have received inspiration from all over the region and learned from local experts along the way."

“In many ways, Tiana’s Bayou Adventure is a love letter to New Orleans," Charita Carter, executive producer of relevancy activations at Walt Disney Imagineering, said. "Like the musical city that inspired this attraction, Tiana’s second act is about a community working in harmony to achieve something extraordinary. She reminds us of an immutable truth we can all relate to: ‘if you do your best each and every day, good things are sure to come your way.’ And that’s a melody we can all sing along to!”

The new attraction will also be a "celebration of Black joy as we bring Tiana's story to its roots" and Disney is proud to be "advancing the storyline of Princess Tiana at our parks."

Tiana's Bayou Adventure was first announced in 2020 and will pick up right where the events of the film left off. Guests will join Princess Tiana, Naveen, and Louis the jazz-loving alligator as they get ready to host a Mardi Gras celebration where "everyone is welcome." There will also be apperances by familiar faces and original music inspired by songs from the film.

Splash Mountain first debuted at Disneyland in 1989 before arriving in Tokyo Disneyland and Magic Kingdom in 1992. The ride is based of the 1946 Disney film Song of the South, which Disney has chosen not to release on Disney+ as it is "not appropriate in today's world."

Cyberpunk: Edgerunners – Netflix Reveals Opening Title Sequence for Its Upcoming Anime Series

Netflix has revealed the opening title sequence for Cyberpunk: Edgerunners, the upcoming anime set in the world of Cyberpunk 2077.

The "so-stylish-it-hurts opening" is accompanied by Franz Ferdinand's This Fffire and was shared during the Trigger 10 Year Anniversary & Announcement Panel at Anime Expo 2022.

Alongside the opening credits, Studio Trigger also showed the first episode of the series to those in attendance and confirmed that Zach Aguilar, the English voice actor of Demon Slayer: Kimetsu No Yaiba's Tanjiro Kamado, will be lending his voice to main character David Martinez.

Martinez is a street kid who is "trying to survive in a technology and body modification-obsessed city of the future. Having everything to lose, he chooses to stay alive by becoming an edgerunner—a mercenary outlaw also known as a cyberpunk."

The 10-episode series will also focus on a netrunner named Lucy and a recent official clip revealed that part of the story will take place in the same location as The Pickup mission from Cyberpunk 2077. For those unfamiliar, that is the mission where V and Jackie have to pick up the robot spy-spider from the Maelstrom gang.

Cyberpunk: Edgerunners will be released on Netflix in September 2022 and remains one of our top 10 most anticipated new anime of 2022.

Final Fantasy 14 Patch 6.2 Arrives in August and Adds the Island Sanctuary

Final Fantasy 14's upcoming Patch 6.2, which is titled Buried Memory, will add the long-awaited Island Sanctuary that will allow players to gather materials, build facilities, care for creatures, and much more on their very own island.

Revealed during the latest Letter from the Producer LIVE broadcast for Final Fantasy 14, Island Sanctuary very much sounds like it takes inspiration from games like Animal Crossing and Stardew Valley and it is being described as "relaxing solo content" that required no previous crafting or gathering experience.

Island Sanctuary was announced in 2021 and Final Fantasy 14 director Naoki Yoshida shared a bit more about what players can expect from this content.

"There are elements of pioneering and building things," Yoshida revealed. "So you would have a facility that you build or a farm that you can cultivate or you can have animals there. You can leave it as-is if you want to let the weeds grow out of control, that's perfectly fine. Or if you want to go there and make it your own, that's perfectly fine as well."

He also mentioned players can invite their friends to their Island Sanctuary so they can "idly chat," if they so desire. While there are no real objectives or ties to the main story, it looks like there will be a lot to look forward to for those looking for a new way to play Final Fantasy 14. Oh, and players can earn special items by completing various content on the island.

Island Sanctuary and Patch 6.2 are scheduled to arrive in late August and the patch will add "the latest chapter in the critically acclaimed story, fresh battle changes, system updates, and more." There will be a new 8-Player Raid called Pandæmonium, the Duty Support feature will be "expanded to include main scenario dungeons from Snow Cloak through The Vaults," and more.

Patch 6.25 was also teased and it will feature new Side Quests and the promise that the Somehow Further Hildibrand Adventure will continue.

For more, check out how the dream of playing Final Fantasy 14 solo is almost here and why, although the MMO's housing is daunting, HGXIV is here to help.
