Halloween Ends Will Release Day and Date on Peacock and in Theaters

Halloween will come a bit early for theatergoers and Peacock subscribers when Halloween Ends debuts for both on October 14.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, paid subscribers to the streaming service will be able to watch the final chapter in the reboot trilogy right away.

Jamie Lee Curtis will return for the last time as Laurie Strode for a final confrontation with Michael Myers. Curtis, who has played the iconic character for over four decades, said, "I’m very proud of our final film Halloween Ends and how it brings the saga to a fitting conclusion."

Director David Gordon Green said last year that Halloween Ends is "a love letter to franchise creator John Carpenter."

The movie is the 13th addition to the beloved horror franchise, but it follows the continuity established by 2018’s Halloween, the first installment in the reboot trilogy. The three new movies ignore all the other films except the 1978 original.

Halloween Ends takes place four years after the second movie in the trilogy, Halloween Kills, which also released day and date, on October 15, 2021. IGN rated it a 7/10, saying, "Halloween Kills delivers deliciously gory kills and nods to John Carpenter's original classic, but still feels like half a movie."

Watch all the movies from the beginning with the original 1978 Halloween and its sequel Halloween from 2018, which got a 9/10 from IGN.

Dead Island 2’s Gore System Cuts Through Flesh, Organs, and Bones With Procedural Precision

Dead Island 2 developer Dambuster Studios has created a bespoke gore system for its upcoming zombie-slaying sequel, and it's one of the most detailed ever seen in games.

“We’ve probably spent an unhealthy amount of time passionately developing our own gruesome gore tech, which we codename internally FLESH,” explained Dead Island 2’s game director, David Stenton, in a conversation with IGN. “That’s short for Fully Locational Evisceration System for Humanoids.”

“[This system] allows players to slice, dice, chop, dismember, melt, bludgeon and break zombies in all kinds of spectacular and stylish ways,” he continued. “And it’s all fully procedural as well.”

The new trailer shows off a strong selection of gory kills, but Stenton has a lot of enthusiasm for the detailed way the FLESH system replicates burning flesh.

“One of the most fun things you can do in the game is melt a zombie,” he said. “You can see [the flames] burn through the clothes and all the soft tissue, and down through the organs and into the bones. So yeah, we’ve put a lot of effort into the core combat and the gore that goes along with that.”

Dead Island 2 was re-revealed at Gamescom 2022’s Opening Night Live show, showing off the zombie game for the first time in eight years. Dambuster is the third developer to work on the game, following original studio Yager and second studio Sumo Digital, and they began work from scratch after taking over duties on the project. Their new version of Dead Island 2 is set to release next February.

Blacktail’s Latest Trailer Shows the Good and Evil of Witchcraft – Gamescom Opening Night Live

Gamescom Opening Night Live snuck in a lovely, longer trailer for Blacktail - a game about witchcraft and the legend of Baba Yaga that we've seen in showcases before, but never to this extent.

Blacktail is a twist on the traditional Slavic myth of Baba Yaga, and follows a young girl cast out of her home due to accusations of witchcraft. The choices she makes as she wanders will determine what kind of witch she ultimately becomes - a guardian of the forest, or an utter terror.

We get a good look at a lot of Blacktail's combat in this video, specifically use of both the bow and arrow and the character's magical abilities fighting monsters and wild animals. We also get more teases about the morality system, where you can decide the fate of both the land and those who live in it.

Blacktail is developed by The Parasight and published by Focus Entertainment. It's planned for release this winter on PS5, Xbox Series X and S, and Steam, with pre-orders up on Steam now.

The Outlast Trials Closed Beta Dates Revealed Alongside First Look Trailer – Gamescom Opening Night Live

After a long wait, we've gotten a new look at The Outlast Trials, and it's quite gruesome.

Revealed at Gamescom's Opening Night Live event, The Outlast Trial reveals a world reminsicent of BioShock, complete with freakish masks. Be warned, because the new trailer is not for faint of heart or weak of stomach.

Set amid the Cold War, you play a human guinea pig recruited to test methods of brainwashing and mind control. You'll be trying to survive deeply unethical experiments alone, or with up to three partners.

In addition to the first look, The Outlast Trials was also confirmed to be getting a closed beta on Steam. The beta will run from October 28 to November 1, so you'll be appropriately be able to play on Halloween.

The Outlast Trials was shown alongside lots of games at Opening Night Live, including Dead Island 2 and Hogwarts Legacy. You can find the full Gamescom Opening Night Live recap here.

Ex-Battlefield Devs’ New Shooter Is Called The Finals – Gamescom Opening Night Live

Embark, a new studio created by ex-Battlefield developers, has teased The Finals, a new competitive shooter.

Described as "a shooter wrapped in a game show format," The game got the briefest of teases, but we saw gunplay, environmental destruction, and a sword hitting a man so hard that he explodes into coins. A full reveal is coming later in September.

"We invite you to virtual arenas based on iconic real-world locations that contestants can alter, exploit, and even destroy in chaotic PvP matches," reads a press release. "Add a tremendous variety of skills and weapons to the mix, and you will be able to craft your own unique contestant with your very own loadout, playstyle, and look."

The tease has been made to encourage fans to sign up to playtest the game, with a website allowing you to register now.

Oddly, we knew about Embark's second game before its first. We'd previously seen third-person sci-fi shooter Arc Raiders, but it was delayed into 2023 to make way for this game.

Dead Island 2 Gets a New Trailer, 8 Years After the Last One – and It’s Out Next Year – Gamescom Opening Night Live

Dead Island 2 received its first trailer in 2014. Eight years later, it just got a second trailer, announcing that it will arrive February 3 next year.

Announced at Gamescom's Opening Night Live showcase, a new cinematic trailer showed Jacob, one of six playable characters in the game, seemingly infected with a virus, bashing his way through a variety of undead. The montage shows him slaughtering his way through Los Angeles, using both a gun and a katana.

A second trailer showed off the first new gameplay, which has been re-built from the ground up by developer Dambuster Studios. It is incredibly gory, with brutal melee combat carving zombies in two and turning them to red mush.

It's been a long and troubled road for the zombie-killing sequel. After starting life at Spec Ops: The Line developer Yager, the game was moved to Sumo Digital after "mutual differences" with publisher Deep Silver. Sumo worked on the game for some time, but Dambuster Studios eventually took over in 2019.

The original game was set for PS4, Xbox One and PC, and saw players taking control of over-the-top characters killing zombies in multiple Californian locations. It's likely a very different prospect in its new form.
